Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus-Chapter 780 - 593: Wind and Snow, Swaying in the Air (5/7)
Human hearts are hardest to discern, whether before or amid the apocalypse.
On the surface, someone might seem meek and polite, while internally they curse and wish you dead.
The same applies to those in power. They may smile and offer encouragement, but they might also be contemplating your removal.
After Hai Chao entered the room, Baozi and the other two promptly left Gan Shang’s desk and stood aside, watching him.
Gan Shang also slowly raised his head and asked Hai Chao, "What is it?"
The scrutiny in his eyes was apparent.
Hai Chao steadied his mind, having made up his decision.
He slowly approached Gan Shang’s desk, bowed his head, and said, "Boss, I have something to report to you."
"Oh? Go ahead." Gan Shang was in no rush, quietly observing him.
Hai Chao took a deep breath and then said, "Boss, may I speak to you alone?"
Gan Shang raised an eyebrow, contemplation flashing in his eyes.
The next second, he tapped the desk and said, "It’s alright, just say it."
Upon hearing this, Hai Chao was nearly certain that Baozi and the others had not betrayed him.
He hesitated no more and said, "Just now, Gan Shang approached me, wanting me to betray you. I pretended to agree to stabilize him and now I’m reporting this to you."
Silence.
Gan Shang also fell silent for a few seconds.
Seconds later, Hai Chao curiously looked up to see Baozi and the others looking at him with amusement.
Gan Shang stood up from his seat and slowly walked over to Hai Chao, patting his shoulder.
After a while, he said earnestly, "Hai Chao, indeed I was not mistaken about you. What else did he say?"
Hai Chao looked up at Baozi and the others and said, "Gan Shang told me that besides him, others have joined, including them."
Hai Chao pointed towards Baozi and his group.
Upon hearing this, they burst out laughing.
A smile also appeared on Gan Shang’s lips as he said, "You are the third person to report this to me. They have already told me."
The third?
Hai Chao looked at Baozi, Jiu Zhi, Gao Ru, and himself, clearly counting four people.
This meant that among those three, one must have been the first to instigate the rebellion.
Who it was didn’t matter, what mattered was that this was a test.
Gan Shang had taken the bait.
And if he had truly agreed earlier, what would have happened?
Knowing that they already knew, the consequences would have been disastrous.
No wonder Gan Shang had been acting strangely towards him; perhaps it was because he was unsure of his loyalty.
And since Gan Shang had not approached him directly, he was unaware of anything.
In an instant, all the doubts of the past days became clear.
Hai Chao’s back was soaked in an instant.
"Gan Shang deserves to die! I gave him so many chances, yet he still thought of betraying me. You guys did well, you’ve passed the test. Gao Ru, it’s about time to wrap this up. Hai Chao is fine," Gan Shang looked up and said to Gao Ru.
Gao Ru, with an unfathomable smile, responded, "Alright, brother-in-law."
Then he said to Hai Chao, "Brother Hai Chao, sorry about this. It wasn’t that we wanted to target you, but the situation has been tricky lately; I hope you can understand."
Hai Chao forcefully conjured a smile, though it was somewhat unnatural.
"Director Gao, I understand. But what about Gan Shang, how will we deal with him?"
"How to deal with it? What else can we do?" Gan Shang didn’t wait for Gao Ru to answer and spoke angrily.
His eyes full of murderous intent.
"Brother-in-law, let’s wrap it up quickly and deal with Gan Shang today."
Them?
Hearing these words, Hai Chao was puzzled; were there others involved?
"Yes, Jiu Zhi, you have a good relationship with Gan Shang, the task of killing him is yours. As for the others following him, have Baozi assist you," Gao Ru explained.
Upon hearing this, Hai Chao stepped forward and volunteered, "Boss, do you need me to bring people to help?"
Gan Shang shook his head and said, "No need, just hold down the fort. That’s more important. Gan Shang and his four people can be handled by them."
"Alright." Hai Chao nodded slightly, then fell silent.
Subsequently, Gao Ru gave a few more instructions, then sent them each on their way.
As they descended the stairs, Jiu Zhi followed behind Hai Chao, giving him a meaningful look.
Hai Chao returned to his room, sorted through his thoughts, feeling that everything was seamless, then lay down to rest.
Even lying down, he still held a handgun in his hand.
In such severe circumstances, to still engage in infighting, and he himself was almost killed in the process.
This caused Hai Chao to wryly smile.
If the walls break, everyone dies.
Yet even in such circumstances, the overt and covert battles continue unabated.
Sigh...
...
Xing City.
In the darkness, black snow flutters.
Ai Shan, hugging a pillow, places his hands on it, then hangs his feet on a rope.
The rope sways slightly.
He steadies his mind.
Dragging the pillow, he crawls towards the window.
Under the light of Lu Kuan, he could see the other end of the rope.
Besides where the light illuminated, everything else was pitch black.
After climbing out the window, the snow outside immediately sprinkled on him.
