Chapter 502: Heirloom (2)

"I am really sorry about her actions," Old Master Lei said to Mother Bai with some embarrassment. This was his first time meeting with the family of his granddaughter-in-law, and yet, because of his wife, he was forced to lower his head in such a manner.

"There is no need." Although Mother Bai was indeed upset with the crude words that came out of Old Lady Lei’s mouth, she knew that this couldn’t be blamed on Old Master Lei. After all, he was different from Old Lady Lei and hadn’t done anything to embarrass them, so there was no point in making things troublesome for him.

When Old Master Lei saw that Mother Bai was not blaming him, he heaved a sigh of relief and then turned to look at his grandson’s chosen wife. This was his first time seeing Bai Meiyue, clearly. The last time he saw her, his vision was slightly blurry due to the surgery he had undergone.

Now that he had taken a good look at her face, he was so shocked that he nearly fainted. He turned around and looked at his grandson. Even though the man was handsome like an immortal who had descended from the sky, he was still older than Bai Meiyue. Looking at him and then turning to look at Bai Meiyue, it was like he was staring at a rather mismatched couple.

Sighing, he lowered his head and apologized to Mother Bai once again, "I am sorry. I didn’t teach this beast properly, and because of this, he did such a thing." In his eyes, Bai Meiyue was still young, barely eighteen and yet she was carrying the child of his grandson. Even if Mother Bai had accepted his grandson, it must be because her daughter was already pregnant with his child; if not, there was no way anyone would have accepted such a beast!

"Oh, there is no need to say such a thing." Mother Bai was quite surprised when she heard the words of Old Master Lei; she waved her hands and then said to him, "This is fate; the children were meant to be together... what could we do in such a case?"

"You are really generous for saying such a thing," said Old Master Lei, whose head was still bowed. However, he did turn his head to one side and glared at his dear grandson with a rather angry look on his face.

Lei Qian raised his hand and touched the tip of his nose, feeling a bit guilty when he heard the words of his grandfather. He knew what his grandfather was thinking and couldn’t help but lower his head. Well, he indeed made a mistake by sleeping with Bai Meiyue, who turned an adult just a few days before the end of the world.

However, though he felt guilty, he didn’t regret it. Because if he had not done that, then he wouldn’t have been able to get a good wife like Bai Meiyue.

Old Master Lei saw the look on the face of his grandson and knew what he was thinking. He rolled his eyes and turned to look at Bai Meiyue. He said to her with a kind expression, "Girl, thank you so much. Ah Qian told me that you saved my life; if not for you, I would already be buried six feet deep by now."

Old Master Lei never thought that at the time of need, the one who would help him would be a stranger, while his wife, with whom he had slept for more than fifty years, would actually hope for his death such that she could use his death to force Lei Qian and his family to do her bidding.

Bai Meiyue shook her head and said, "I didn’t do anything. It was all thanks to the doctors and the nurses that you were able to get timely medical assistance. I cannot take the credit for it."

Once she finished speaking, Old Master Lei nodded his head in appreciation. He had to admit that his grandson did a really good job of finding a good woman for himself. If it were someone else, then that woman would have already taken the credit and sung praises for herself.

"Has it been five months?" he changed the topic and asked while looking at Bai Meiyue’s belly with a soft gaze.

"A bit over four and a half," replied Bai Meiyue as she looked down as well. Her eyes were just as soft as Old Master Lei’s when she thought about her son. A bit more and she would be able to see her son very soon.

Old Master Lei nodded. "Good, good." After overcoming the hurdle that his granddaughter-in-law was just eighteen years old, Old Master Lei accepted everything else quite easily. He then took out a small box that he was carrying in his pocket and handed it to Bai Meiyue. He said to her, "This is something that my mother wanted to give to her daughter-in-law, but I never got a chance to give it to anyone. So I will be leaving this in your care."

When he got married, the marriage ceremony was far from joyful; his mother was so angry that she nearly fainted three times during the ceremony. Thus, this heirloom never ended in the hands of Old Lady Lei, as for his daughters-in-law, though the eldest daughter-in-law was sensible and wise, his second daughter-in-law was competitive and would get jealous of the smallest thing.

He didn’t wish to cause trouble for his eldest daughter-in-law, so he never handed her this heirloom as well.

But now that his favourite grandson had found a life partner, he could finally hand this heirloom to Bai Meiyue.

When Bai Meiyue saw the box, she hesitated and raised her head to look at Lei Qian. Even though she had accepted him in her life, she had no idea what kind of life the two of them were going to live. Thus, she had no idea whether to accept this heirloom or reject it!
