Chapter 64: Chapter 64: The Item Leng Jun Stole from Them

Under the relentless attack of the criminal beastmen, more and more people fell. Leng Jun’s heart twisted when he saw this, suddenly doubting whether his decision was right.

After he was separated from his younger siblings, he was chased all over the forest, wanting to turn around back to find them but couldn’t.

The fierce beasts chasing him were quite ferocious. One moment of inattention might cost him his life. He didn’t even have a single thought about fighting back because he knew he couldn’t win against them.

The only survival chance was to run.

Fortunately, the fierce beasts chasing after his siblings were relatively weaker and their speed was slower. He desperately hoped his younger sister and brother could outrun them.

In the midst of desperation, he found traces of dead people. The area had a strong smell of blood. He had a premonition he was entering an area more dangerous than the pair of fierce beasts chasing after him.

Strangely, the fierce beasts also stopped chasing him. They trotted over to the bodies lying on the ground. There were already some fierce beasts gathered, munching on the corpses.

"So many fierce beasts? What do you want for lunch?" A relaxed voice, tinged with arrogance, rang out.

Leng Jun was alarmed. He quickly found a suitable place to hide, behind a small rock with plants growing all over it. Subconsciously, he held his breath.

The people were rough-looking, tall with burly appearance, almost resembling giants. It was clear that their true forms were massive animals, maybe elephants or some kind of huge bear. He was a bit too far to see clearly.

Nevertheless, with the way their voices thundered all around the forest, he could hear their conversation. Although the fierce beasts were focusing on eating the corpses, they occasionally sent a glance toward the group of beastmen, eyes full of wariness.

He saw one beastman approaching the flock of fierce beasts and casually grabbing one fierce beast, some kind of wild chicken with a sharp beak which tried to peck him but failed. His other hand grasped a green snake.

How strong were those people that fierce beasts didn’t even last a second under them?

"A snake for you, Zhao Gang. A chicken for me." The beastman snickered, throwing his companion a headless snake. "Hmm, what about others, what do you want?"

They were treating it like some kind of feast fresh from the source.

The others chimed in their request, and the beastman kept searching for the suitable fierce beast.

Leng Jun’s gazes were trained on the dozens of corpses. The first thing he noticed was their clothing. It was something he had never seen before. Unlike their coarse clothes made of fierce beast skin or pelt, the material seemed to be more sophisticated.

Such fine clothing... they must be from the cities.

Why did these rough-looking people slaughter the beastmen from the city? His heart was full of wariness, afraid he might make a sound that would attract them to him.

"Let’s make a feast to celebrate our return!" They all cheered, loud voices thundered over. Once the fire was lit, they began to roast their prey.

"Those people have such decent items with them," a beastman snorted, and then with a voice tinged with unconcealed joy, he continued, "They even have the token."

He stared at the token with some longing and satisfaction. The token was round, made of some unknown fierce beast’s bones. A deep, ancient feel emanated from it.

Glowing runes carved on its surface, which made it hard to be faked. Such complicated and high-level runes would need a master to do it.

"With this, we can enter the cities again." They all smirked.

A beastman, Zhao Gang, licked his lips. "Those people who made us had no choice but to turn into this god forsaken place... we must take revenge against them."

Laughters followed.

"We just take away their disobedient daughters and sons, relieving them from their burden. Is there a need to be so angry? Other parents thanked us for our service." The beastman snorted, sounded indignant as he recalled the past.

"Those beastmen on the streets were also on the verge of turning into fallen beasts, they obviously already show signs of fallen beastman. We killed them, ridding the place of possible contamination." The beastman furrowed his brows.

"We only took a small payment from the items that the fallen beastmen were selling, yet they were accusing us of murder instead." He clicked his tongue. "Ungrateful bunch."

Leng Jun’s eyes widened in shock when he heard about all the deeds those beastmen had committed. It was one thing that they committed illegal acts, but it was on another level they were branding such acts as helping others!

They were simply beyond saving.

He instantly recognized who they were—the criminals who had been forced to run away into this forest.

His mind churned. He further listened to them bragging how many children they had kidnapped or the numbers of innocent people they had killed. The cases numbered in hundreds!

If those criminals were allowed to go back to the cities, they might commit the same illegal actions again. Furthermore, based on their discussion, the token was a pass to enter any cities!

"We have mostly stayed in one city before, but with this token, we will be able to explore more." They were very satisfied with their findings.

Leng Chuan couldn’t bear it anymore and decided to steal the token. Like a heaven-sent opportunity, more fierce beasts gathered around.

Some didn’t get enough to eat and targeted the beastmen.

At the same time, Leng Jun saw a small dot fall from the beastman’s pocket in his hurry. He took a gamble, running toward the where the item had fallen down while the beastmen were busy fighting the fierce beasts.

They were cursing and battling madly, too busy fighting to pay attention to him. However, they were also quite perceptive. He hadn’t run far enough when they discovered his presence.

Soon, they noticed that their treasured token was gone too.

They all chased after him, but his luck was good. The hungry fierce beasts, which didn’t get enough to eat, hindered them, allowing him to run far away.

Now, the situation has evolved into the present scene. Somehow, the criminal beastmen met the villagers, and without warning, attacked them.

He had no choice but to appear and join them to fight back, partly blaming himself for bringing them misfortune. What made him more guilty was that the village head didn’t blame him even after he told the truth.

The criminal beastmen knew that the villagers were no match for them and enjoyed toying with them. They didn’t directly kill the beastmen, fortunately. Only severely injuring them.

They weren’t even in a hurry to retrieve the token back from him because they knew Leng Jun’s legs were injured. Hence, he wouldn’t be able to run again.

"Brat, how can you be here?" A criminal beastman shouted, pointing at Leng Yi aggressively. "Where is Zhao Gang?"

Xie Ziyuan curled his lips, raising his eyebrows. He didn’t utter any unnecessary sentences and directly told them, "Dead."

They all froze for a moment before charging toward him.
