Chapter 76: Grows Back

Myles parried another claw swipe, sparks bursting as his sword clashed against bone.

He twisted his blade and slashed upward with Fangblade, the red veins along its surface flaring as if responding to his desire to kill.

His Bloodthirsty Slash passive skill stacked more damage into the wound, forcing a crack to spread wider across the titan’s bones. Dark blue energy hissed out from the fracture, leaking like smoke. It gives the bone titan look as if it was bleeding.

Daniel charged in recklessly while seeing Myles fighting, his teeth bared as he hacked at the same shin from a different direction.

His attack barely sank through the bone so he decided to slash more with more force.

But before he could follow up, part of the titan’s chest split open. Half a dozen skulls suddenly detached and tumbled down with hollow clacks. Their jaws snapped open as they lunged at Myles, biting for his arm and throat.

Daniel cursed and he stumbled backward as one skull latched onto his leg.

Myles moved instantly, ripping his sword free and cleaving the skull in two with one slash.

He yanked Daniel clear before another set of teeth could clamp down again.

Sam the young girl looks trembling but resolute. She darted with low posture. Her makeshift spear thrust hard into the titan’s joint.

The sharpened tip pierced deeper than before. She realized that it was because her newly raised stats finally let her strength show.

The titan looked staggered under the blow, one knee bending. Her chest swelled with pride. She had actually made it falter and had become stronger now. A smile blooming in her face while her confidence rose.

But the triumph lasted only a heartbeat. The writhing mass of skulls on its torso opened all at once and suddenly vomited a torrent of blue fire.

"Oh, shit!" Sam muttered under her breath.

Dozens of burning skulls shrieked as they spewed the flames outward.

Sam’s eyes widened and she scrambled back, the heat licking her skin.

"SCATTER!"

Myles barked for them to scatter, and the group broke apart before the dark blue inferno engulfed them whole.

Ryan grit his teeth and steadied himself, then moving in a wide direction to avoid the flame. At this point, he saw a chance to attack.

He jabbed his weapon again and again in quick succession, not for damage but to pull the titan’s gaze at him, thus letting their main damage dealer do the job.

The pale fires in its sockets swiveled toward him, buying a crucial second.

As if reading his mind, Myles used the opening immediately.

He sprinted at the titan from behind, kicked off a jut of bones on the titan’s leg, and launched himself upward.

His sword flashed with red energy as he drove it into the titan’s upper limb, stabbing deep where the bones met.

The impact shook the massive frame, and a storm of skulls shrieked in unison.

The combination of Bloodthirsty Slash and his short sword skill, Predator’s Edge, from the beginning of the battle stacking the damage the titan’s suffered.

On a deeper level it made the bones all over its body weaker and made the attack coming at it deal a stronger effect.

CLANG!

CRACK!

At that point, Myles was finally able to break one of the titan’s arms.

The others grinned widely seeing that. Myles then jumped down from the titan’s body and landed smoothly.

But suddenly, something annoyingly dangerous happened.

The broken stump of the titan’s arm did not remain shattered. Instead, the scattered skulls that had fallen earlier began to twitch.

One by one, they rolled and dragged themselves across the ground while shrieking like carrion birds.

Blue fire blazed from their sockets as they clambered up the titan’s leg and merged back into its skeletal frame.

The cracks that Myles had carved into its bones pulsed with that same eerie dark blue light. With a sickening crunch, the skulls fused together, reshaping into a new arm.

The fresh limb was jagged and malformed, but just as deadly as before.

Myles’ eyes narrowed. "Tch—damn it."

"It just grows it back?!" Daniel cursed loudly, swinging his weapon in frustration.

Sam’s breath caught in her throat, her earlier happiness collapsing into horror again.

The titan lifted its reborn arm and flexed the claws, bone shards raining down. That gesture feels like it was mocking them from their futile effort.

It turned its head with a grinding creak, almost mocking them, as if proud of its grotesque regeneration.

Myles tightened his grip on his Fangblade. He had no time to waste to be angry.

His voice tore across the battlefield, sharp and commanding. "Kill the skulls on the ground before they reattach! Don’t let a single one crawl back to it! I will try to hold it."

Ryan, who had just pulled himself out of the fire’s range, looked at the ground where half-broken inhuman skulls gnawed and dragged themselves closer to the titan.

His jaw clenched.

"Got it!" he shouted back, slamming his weapon down to crush one into fragments.

Daniel roared and hacked at other skulls, the weapon crunching through bone.

Sam, despite trembling, thrust her spear into one crawling skull, piercing through its eye socket before kicking it free.

The battlefield turned chaotic once more as they realized the fight wasn’t only against the towering monster but also against the pieces of it that kept falling, writhing, and crawling back to restore its body later when it suffered huge wounds.

The titan, seemingly unfazed, stomped forward again at Myles.

Its heavy frame groaned, ribs clattering like war drums, as if mocking their desperation.

But now, Myles and the others knew that the only way to bring this abomination down was to not only break it directly but to destroy every single part of it before it could rise again.

Myles charged again at the titan with gritted teeth. The titan swung its arm and Myles dodged to the side then hacked again at that arm, in an effort to stack his damage on the titan once more.
