Chapter 180: Fourteenth

Jack watched Myles walk toward him.

Even from several meters away he could see the coldness on the man’s face. There was no hesitation there. No anger either. Just calm certainty.

Jack had seen that same look before. Red had that same expression whenever he decided someone had to die.

A quiet chill crawled down Jack’s spine.

At the side, Lilian observed the scene silently. She gave a small approving nod.

A captured enemy only had value as long as the information they provided benefited the group. Once that usefulness ended, they became a risk instead. In her eyes, Jack and the others had already lost their value the moment he revealed everything he knew. Myles had made the correct decision.

Eliminate the threat.

Victor, George, Daniel, and the others slowly began following behind Myles.

Jack’s eyes widened as he realized what was happening.

"W-wait," he stammered quickly. "Wait, wait, wait!"

His voice shook as Myles continued walking forward without slowing.

"What are you going to do to me?"

Myles didn’t answer.

His expression remained calm as he approached, a short sword in one hand and a curved dagger in the other.

Jack could feel the killing intent surrounding him. It pressed down like invisible weight.

"I—I don’t want to die!" Jack blurted out desperately. "Listen! We can help you! Me and my group—we’ll work for you! We’ll follow your orders instead!"

Myles kept walking. His eyes showed no interest in the offer.

A few more steps.

Then he stopped directly in front of Jack.

His shadow fell over Jack’s face.

Jack suddenly felt cold all over.

A deep instinct inside him screamed that this was the end.

Myles moved. His Fangblade short sword drove forward in one smooth and effortless motion.

The blade pierced straight into Jack’s chest.

Jack’s body jerked violently. A choking sound escaped his throat as blood spilled from his mouth. His eyes dropped slowly toward the sword buried in his chest.

Pain spread through his body.

"Ja—Jack!"

Several of his teammates shouted in horror.

But their shock lasted only a moment. Because Victor, George, Daniel, and the others were already moving.

They lunged toward the remaining prisoners and shot without hesitation.

Shouts and desperate screams erupted across the grassy hill.

Blades, hammer, and Ether bullets and arrows flashed. Blood splattered across the grass. Some of them tried to run. Some of them tried to fight back. But none of it mattered.

Within moments, the sounds of battle faded.

The artificial sun above continued shining quietly over the hill while the wind swept gently through the grass. Pools of blood slowly spread across the ground.

Then silence returned. Every member of Jack’s group lay motionless.

Myles pulled his sword free from Jack’s body and glanced around the battlefield. His companions were already stepping back from the fallen enemies with various expressions.

The fight was finished.

Victor flicked his cleaver weapon while scanning the area. George rested his hammer against his shoulder again. Clara and Samantha stood nearby, their expressions quiet. Daniel exhaled slowly. Lilian remained as calm as ever.

Myles sheathed his weapons and looked at the group.

"It’s time to move again," he said.

Victor raised an eyebrow.

"So what now?" he asked. "Next floor or back outside?"

Myles thought for a moment before answering.

"We’ve come this far so we might as well continue to the twentieth floor," he said. His gaze moved toward the distant teleportation platform.

No one objected.

One by one, the group nodded in agreement.

They walked together toward the circular platform carved into the ground with strange runes glowed faintly along the rim.

Lilian stepped forward and activated it. Amber light rose from the runes and quickly enveloped all of them.

The world around them dissolved in glowing energy. A moment later, the light faded and they had been transferred to the fourteenth floor.

This time the environment was completely different.

No grassy hills or scattered jutted rocks. Instead, a massive city wall stood before them.

The wall towered high into the sky, built from smooth white stone that gleamed under the artificial sunlight. The structure looked ancient yet incredibly sturdy, stretching far to both sides as if protecting the entire city behind it.

Myles and the others looked around cautiously, trying to understand what kind of trial awaited them here.

But before anyone could speak, glowing text suddenly appeared before their eyes.

[You are now in 14th Floor]

[Objective: Breach the city wall] 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Ethan stared at the glowing system message with wide eyes. His mouth hung slightly open as he pointed toward the massive structure ahead of them.

"What?" he said incredulously. "What does it mean by breaching the city wall?"

The others looked just as stunned.

The wall in front of them was enormous. Smooth white stone blocks stacked together into a towering barrier that stretched endlessly to the left and right. The structure looked ancient yet impossibly sturdy, as if it had stood there for centuries without a single crack.

Myles narrowed his eyes as he studied it.

"I don’t know," he admitted.

He turned his head and looked at the others. Victor frowned. George scratched the back of his head. Clara and Samantha both looked uncertain. Daniel seemed confused.

"I didn’t expect something like this," Myles continued. "I thought we’d just be fighting monsters like before."

"Yeah," Victor muttered. "Same here."

"I thought every floor was just stronger monsters," Daniel added.

George nodded. "Right. That’s what the first floors were."

The group fell silent again as they stared up at the gigantic wall.

Then Lilian finally spoke.

"Maybe this isn’t just a dungeon floor," she said calmly.

Several heads turned toward her.

Myles looked at her with a slight frown. "What do you mean?"

Lilian crossed her arms lightly while observing the distant wall.

"Maybe this is some kind of story," she said.

"A story?" Ethan repeated.

"Yes," Lilian continued. "Something that once existed. A civilization perhaps. Recorded by the cosmos and turned into a trial."

Her words made several of them pause.

Victor raised a brow. "Recorded... by the cosmos?"

Lilian made a faintly annoyed face.

"There are many things in the cosmos that would take a long time to explain," she said flatly. "Things far beyond the understanding of most people."

She then gestured toward the massive wall.

"For now, it’s simpler to focus on the task in front of us which is to destroy the wall."

Myles looked at her carefully for a moment before speaking.

"You’ll help us?" he asked.

Lilian kept her eyes on the towering structure.

"I think so," she replied.

Her gaze slowly moved along the massive stone barrier, measuring its height and thickness.

"Because that doesn’t look like something you can breach with your own power."
