Chapter 545: Chapter 545: The Origin of the Strange Village

Chu Miao and Ye Xuan looked at each other when they heard this explanation. It seemed that the Liu family had some connections with the ancient Chu family, otherwise they wouldn’t have gotten so many details about the prophecy with how her grandfather protected her.

"If other people couldn’t even see or find the entrance to the village, why were we able to find it so easily?" Chu Miao asked, just to confirm her guess.

"According to the verbal history passed down by our ancestors, only people with the bloodline of our benefactors who helped with setting up the protective array could find this place once the array was activated. That would mean that either of you is our Liu family benefactor’s descendant." The old chief explained further.

Only now did Chu Miao understand why even the zombies didn’t seem to be able to find the entrance to the village while they found it so easily.

So, it was because she was from the Chu family.

"That would be my girlfriend." Ye Xuan immediately informed the chief as he pointed to Chu Miao.

When the old men heard that, they all stood up and bowed to Chu Miao.

"Welcome benefactor Chu." They said in unison and even though they were bowing, there was no humiliation or inferiority in their demeanor. Only gratitude.

Those watching from the side were surprised to see old men bowing to a young girl.

Chu Miao didn’t feel that there was anything wrong with it. As the queen of the immortal realm, she had people of all ages bowing to her at all times, so this was normal to her.

However, considering that they were still on earth and filial piety and respect for the elderly was big here she accepted the bow for only a moment before urging the old men to sit back down.

"Please sit down grandpas. There is no need to be so polite. Also, how did you know my surname was Chu?" Chu Miao was quite curious about this. When she introduced herself earlier, she hadn’t mentioned her name at all. So, how did these old men know her surname was Chu?

"Hahahaha....thank you for your kindness, benefactor...." The chief thanked her before sitting down and then kept on explaining. "...the reason we know your surname is Chu is because our ancestors told us that anyone who could find this place after the array formation was activated would be a descendant of the Chu family. We don’t have to question our ancestors. So, we also know that you must be the one to end this calamity according to the history left behind. Or maybe it’s someone else from your family." The chief laughed out loud as he talked.

"Oh, so that’s how it is. It’s good that there are still the descendants of old friends of our old Chu family. I guess my grandpa might know something." Chu Miao said with a smile.

"How is everything outside? We haven’t received any news since the internet disappeared and the network was also cut." One of the old men asked.

"Yes, we can’t watch the news or find out about the situation outside the village. We are basically isolated and can’t even find out what is happening with our family members outside of the village. When the disaster started, those not in the village were unable to come back. Now, we know nothing about them." Another old man sighed sadly as he finished his statement.

Chu Miao could understand their sadness and frustration. Even though they were protected from the apocalypse, they didn’t have peace because they didn’t know the fate of the other members of their families outside the village.

"The situation outside is bad. Very bad. There are zombies everywhere. Most of them from mutating because of the mass fever at the beginning of the disasters and others from dying and waking up as undead. Others had also been injured by zombies and mutated due to the virus." Chu Miao explained the situation outside.

"So bad?" Shock was written on all the faces of the people there.

As they talked, more people had grown curious and moved closer to the tree they were sitting under.

"Yes, about ninety percent of the human population is gone. Now we are fighting for survival." Ye Xuan spoke for the first time since the conversation began.

"What do you mean? Is it possible that all the people from our village are dead?" A middle-aged woman asked hysterically from the surrounding crowd.

Chu Miao turned to look at her and found that it was the daughter-in-law of the chief. Her face was ashen from either shock or some other negative emotions.

She was slightly trembling and a middle-aged man who had some resemblance to the village chief moved to support her.

"That’s my youngest son and daughter-in-law. My grandson is a soldier and hasn’t come back since the apocalypse started. We had kept our hope up by convincing ourselves that he was still at the base and nothing had happened to him. But listening to what you just said, it’s terrifying." The village chief sighed again, with tears he was barely trying to stop from falling, blinding his eyes.

"It doesn’t mean that everyone is dead. You never know, maybe he is still alive and just unable to come back to the village." Chu Miao tried to comfort the elders.

It was a sad thing for the elderly to bury young people.

"But if only ten percent of the human population is left, what are the odds that our son is alive?" The middle-aged woman asked with a cracking voice as tears poured from her eyes like a broken dam.

"You cannot just lose hope because the probability is too low. Maybe he got lucky and even awakened a superpower instead of turning into a zombie. We have to be optimistic at this time because humanity needs it." Chu Miao continued to comfort the mother who was almost losing herself in grief.
