Qi Long, Bai Yan, Yi Wen, and Su Hong had been looking at Fu Nie since he started absorbing the crystal core. Even though it was not obvious, there was a small fluctuation of power when he started absorbing it.

It was so small that ordinary people wouldn’t have noticed at all. However, they were not ordinary people but trained soldiers. They would notice the slightest movement especially now that nowhere was safe.

Their vigilance had multiplied as they knew that with so much danger around them, a small distraction or mistake could cost them all their lives. So, to protect themselves and their comrades, they had to stay vigilant.

That was the reason they could detect something so insignificant. This also showed the superior ability of this group of soldiers.

The others were also shocked. After all, it was an inconceivable idea that such shiny little things could give anyone power.

"Yes, you are all exhausted from the fight with zombies, try to absorb them and you will understand. I’ll take another one and see if my strength can recover fully." Fu Nie replied and took a blue crystal from the pile but found that he couldn’t absorb it.

"Mmh...that’s weird, why can’t I absorb it? I clearly absorbed the other one until it was shattered. Why is this different?" Fu Nie mummered in a low voice with a bewildered expression when he failed to absorb the crystal.

When the others heard that, they were surprised, was it just a fluke just now? But Qi Long didn’t think so. Ye Xuan would not collect these things if they were that useless. He picked up a transparent crystal from the pile and as soon as it was in his hand, he felt the pull and immediately started absorbing it.

He had no time to talk to his subordinates and simply started to absorb the crystal core.

After two minutes, he had finished absorbing and like Fu Nie’s crystal, it shattered.

Everyone was surprised by this progress but also elated, it had not been a fluke. This works and they could use the crystals to improve their strength.

Qi Long looked at the shattered crystal in his hand with a thoughtful expression for a full minute before his face brightened.

He had thought of something, "These crystals should have attributes too. Like our superpowers.

Fu Nie absorbed a brown crystal which looks like his superpower attribute, earth, I absorbed a transparent crystal which should represent wind. Try absorbing crystals that correspond to your superpower." He told the rest his thoughts with confidence.

The others didn’t need to be told twice. Who didn’t want to be strong? If they could use these crystals to become stronger, then their activities of killing zombies from now on would not be working in vain.

Fu Nie dropped the blue crystal and picked up another brown one and as expected, he was able to absorb it.

Bai Yan took a red crystal as he assumed that should represent fire and as expected, he also absorbed it. The others followed suit, picking up a crystal from the pile that corresponds to their superpower and absorbing them.

Even when they had fully restored their strength, they didn’t stop. They kept absorbing the crystal cores and something they had not expected happened. They all found that they had become stronger than before.

Now fighting the same number of zombies as they had done previously would not pose as much of a challenge as before.

They were overjoyed by this discovery.

"It looks like we could become one of the strongest team in the military." Yi Wen commented.

The others nodded. They were sure that no one in the military had discovered the use of crystal cores other than them. By the time the others started using them, they would have gotten ahead.

Looking at this group of young people, Qi Long felt gratified. At least now they had another way to survive and they were motivated too. He wondered if they still wanted to leave the military.

He decided to ask, "Do you still want to leave the military?"

The other four turned to look at Qi Long and their faces changed from smiles to solemn expressions.

"Captain, wherever you go I will follow you. If you are leaving the military then I will leave. We will grow stronger in the future, and if we continue to stay, we can only be used as blades by those in power.

I don’t want to be someone’s chess piece anymore. I want to serve my country, but not as a blade that cuts it’s citizens down. I want to be a blade that protects them, but in the current military, that is not possible." Su Hong was the first to express his opinion.

He was not as talkative as the rest, but he had a strong sense of justice. That was the reason he had joined the army and finding out that the higher-ups we’re using them to fight for personal gain, he was disappointed. He wasn’t planning on continuing to be someone’s blade.
