Chapter 140: Chapter 140: The Ultimate Legacy

It almost looked like moonlight filtering through cracks in the cave ceiling, casting ethereal beams over the previously moss-covered stone wall.

However, Chu Miao knew that they were underground and no moonlight could pass through to this place. So, what exactly was going on?

She didn’t dwell much on this phenomenon because she had experienced the same thing in the cave, where it was bright as day without a source.

The air suddenly became thick with spiritual energy, so dense it pressed against their skin like water.

Even Chu Hao, who had been busy searching the other wall, stopped and looked towards his sister. He also saw how light converged on one place and how the surroundings suddenly had a surge of spiritual energy.

He walked towards the wall where his sister was standing and looked at the one square meter part that was enshrined by the light.

"How did this happen?" Chu Hao asked his sister as he stood beside her.

"I felt something cool and slippery while searching and realized that it was transparent moss. I know, how on earth could there be transparent moss in this world? But I just saw it.

I have stored it away in my space ring and will show it to you once we leave later.

After removing the moss, this happened." Chu Miao explained the entire process to her brother.

Chu Miao and her older brother stood before the stone wall that shimmered faintly and once again wondered just how powerful the owner of this cave was.

How could removing a piece of moss uncover such wonder?

"Here," Chu Miao murmured, touching the wall with her fingers and tracing something on it. Symbols suddenly appeared to be carved into the stone wall and pulsed softly, as though recognizing her qi. "This should be some kind of a seal. Not a regular wall."

"What kind of a seal?" Chu Hao asked as he knew close to nothing when it came to things concerning ancient practices.

Most couldn’t be explained by science and that challenged his knowledge reserve.

Chu Miao stepped closer, her dark eyes narrowing. "A formation. Concealment and attack formations, both," she said, and suddenly her fingers started dancing in the air as she traced invisible lines.

"It’s a pretty old array. But don’t worry, give some time. I can crack it." She added as her hands moved faster, so fast that even their afterimages were almost invisible.

Chu Hao was awed by his sister’s performance this time. He had never really seen her take action when it came to array formations. Apart from that time she studied them until she forgot herself, this was the first time he was seeing her put her knowledge to use.

Chu Hao nodded. "Be careful. There might be traps."

"Don’t worry, I won’t get hurt." Chu Miao replied without stopping what she was doing.

Even though there might be traps here, she didn’t believe that it would be fatal. She believed that her ancestors had set up a trial not an execution for their descendants.

So, whether they managed to open the door or not, their lives wouldn’t be at risk. Nevertheless, being careful was good.

After forming symbols for five minutes, Chu Miao flicked her wrist and golden characters flowed from her hands and entered the seal on the wall.

The runes carved on the wall blazed briefly as if ignited and the temperature increased to almost a hundred degrees. If not for spiritual energy protecting them, Chu Miao and her brother would have been roasted.

The blaze vanished just as suddenly as it had appeared. And so did the seal on the stone wall.

A heartbeat later, the ground trembled, and the wall slid open with a low groan, revealing a hidden chamber bathed in pale blue light.

Chu Miao and her brother could feel a particular attraction to the chamber. It was as if something inside was calling to them. This feeling was foreign to both of them.

Even Chu Miao, who had experienced a life of cultivation before, couldn’t fathom this feeling. It was like a bloodline call. This also confirmed one of her guesses before.

Only people of the Chu family bloodline could enter the central part of this cave and receive the inheritance left behind.

Even though the ancient space ring was the Chu family heirloom, their ancestors still took precautions to ensure that even if it fell into the wrong hands, it would not benefit the wrong people.

This level of planning definitely didn’t involve ordinary people at all.

The two siblings looked inside the chamber and saw crystalline stalactites glittered from above, and a shallow pool mirroring the glowing ceiling. At the far end of the room stood a stone pedestal, and on it, a jade box bound in silver chains.

Inside, the air was still and charged, but one could feel the dense spiritual energy even from outside the chamber even though a restriction was placed at the door to prevent it from escaping.

The dense spiritual energy inside should have been there for the sake of whatever was in that chained box.

Chu Hao took a cautious step forward but stopped when Chu Miao raised a hand and pulled him back to stop him. "Wait." She said as she squatted beside the now open door, her gaze sweeping the floor.

"There’s a pressure trap. One wrong move and... we’ll trigger something nasty." Chu Miao added as she examined the surroundings of the door.

Luckily, she had seen similar traps before and could unravel them easily.

Chu Hao exhaled. "This must be the inner chamber of the ancient cultivator who built this place. Or rather, his extreme treasure trove."

Chu Miao smiled faintly, a gleam of excitement in her eyes. "Then whatever’s in that box... it might be the ultimate legacy."

She worked quickly but carefully and soon Chu Miao had disabled the pressure array. With a satisfying click, the last mechanism disarmed.

Chu Hao was the first to reach out to take the box from the pedestal. He used his mutated spiritual fire to burn and melt the chains on the box without affecting whatever was inside the box.

After the chains were gone, he lifted the jade box and moved away from the pedestal.

As he opened it, a beam of golden light shot upward, briefly illuminating an inscription carved above the pedestal.

"Only those who share blood and trust may inherit what is mine." ƒreewebɳovel.com

Within the box lay a scroll and a single tear-shaped crystal glowing with immense spiritual power. Both siblings stood still for a moment, as they looked at the things inside the box in awe.
