Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Exploring the Cave (2)

The steps of the stairwell led deeper down. Just like in the path that led them into the cave, it was pitch black without the slightest hint of light.

This was a bit confusing because inside the cave, they didn’t even need to use their flashlights because the place was as bright as day.

What was more astonishing was the lack of a visible light source in the cave. Chu Miao had examined around and couldn’t find the source of the light in the cave.

Not even the famous night luminous pearls. Eventually, she had decided to forget about it because it was wasting too much time.

Now, entering into darkness again, the siblings had to rely on their flashlights to see in front of them. The darkness here was different from that in the path leading to the cave.

It was darker. So dark that one couldn’t see their own fingers. She wondered what was at the end of the stairs.

The two kept walking forward and it was obvious that the stairs lead deeper underground. They were moving diagonally downwards.

The walls around them still had the same dark material used in the path leading to the cave. Chu Miao started suspecting that it was this material that isolated sounds from outside.

However, the question was, why do something that seemed almost irrelevant? If the cave was used for studying, isolating sound from the outside might make sense, but what about the path and the stairwell?

Anyway, she couldn’t understand, so she pushed it to the back of her mind.

"Whoever built this place had a serious case of insecurities. How can anyone use so much time to dig such a tunnel and build a stairwell as if it was inside a house? What were they trying to hide?" Chu Hao, who found the architecture of the structure unnecessary, voiced his thoughts.

"The person who built this was probably very powerful. Hence, he wouldn’t have needed too much time or manpower to dig this tunnel and build the stairwell.

It might have taken a day or two. In ancient times, individuals who had overcome the heavenly tribulation and formed a golden core or had a higher cultivation level were practically invincible.

So, don’t judge the person who constructed this with your standards." Chu Miao replied to her short-sighted brother.

How could he compare their ancestors to the useless people who live in the modern world? There is no comparison at all.

Not to insult anyone since she was one of those useless humans living in the modern world.

They walked for almost an hour before coming to a stop in front of a stone door. The door didn’t have a handle and one could only tell it’s a door because of the visible outline on both sides.

At the center of the door there was a carving of two small crossed swords. Apart from that, everywhere else was plain stone.

The two siblings tried to push the door to open it but it didn’t budge. No matter how much force was used, it was useless.

"Let’s try to inject spiritual energy into the door and see if it opens." Chu Miao suggested and immediately took action.

She poured spiritual energy into the door for ten minutes straight without a break, but nothing happened.

When Chu Hao saw his sister start to show some signs of fatigue, he stood beside her and took over the process of injecting spiritual energy into the door.

However, no matter how much spiritual energy was injected, nothing changed. In the end, they both stopped out of exhaustion and sat down to recover.

They drank a bottle of spiritual spring water each and used a spirit stone to recover faster.

In half an hour, they had recovered their spiritual energy. Nonetheless, they didn’t try to channel more spiritual energy into the door again. It was obvious that opening the door needed more than spiritual energy.

"Why do you think that the person who created this place installed such a door here? It has no lock or keyhole, and even spiritual energy doesn’t work.

How are we supposed to open it?" Chu Hao complained with some frustrations.

"Don’t you think that the owner of this cave is unconventional?" Chu Miao asked instead of dwelling on the impossible.

"What do you mean?" Her brother asked with a grimace face.

"How did that statue in the cave appear when it was clearly not there when we first entered it?" Chu Miao asked as she turned to her silly brother.

He was only concerned about the door not having a lock and didn’t even think about how bizarre things were since they entered the cave.

This was obviously no ordinary cave, or at least, the person who created it is not ordinary.

The only reason she had continued to move forward so fearlessly was because this was inside the space ring. A spiritual artifact created to protect them and not harm them.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t be so careless and explore a place with potential danger without any preparations. Sure, she would not entirely give up since opportunities came hand-to-hand with danger, but she wouldn’t be so unguarded.

She had served as a general before after all and understood the implications of taking action without proper preparations or information.

"I don’t know how it appeared. What does the statue have to do with this door?" Chu Hao answered the question but then proceeded to ask another question of his own.

Chu Miao let out a long sigh and once again wondered how her brother had not been killed while in the military or how he had managed to succeed so much in business when his brain seemed to go on holiday so frequently.

"Then how did we get here?" Chu Miao asked again.

"Through the tunnel and that dark stairwell." He replied.

"Exactly. And do you remember how that tunnel and stairwell appeared?" Chu Miao felt like a kindergarten teacher trying to guide a child into arriving at the right answer.
