Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 88 What She Wanted to Hear
Alexander glanced at Laurel, his hands tightening slightly beside him. "Laurel, is that true?"
"No, what she had said was all lies. You can check the surveillance if you doubt me..."
"I don’t doubt you." Alexander cut in, his legs moved forward, but stopped when his gaze fell on his sister and cousin who were now held by the soldiers.
"Take them away," Laurel said, turning her face away from him:
"Laurel..." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
"No, don’t beg for them." Laurel cut in, her voice a little shaky.
Alexander could only swallow his words as he watched them taken away. The moment they walked out of view, Alexander stepped closer to her.
"Are you okay?" He asked, his eyes trailing over her ruffled hair.
"I’m fine," Laurel replied, her gaze lowered. She didn’t want to meet his gaze. "Do you also feel that it is unfair that you are not the leader of the fortress? Do you despise me for that?"
Alexander blinked, taken aback by her question. "Why would you ask that? The fortress belongs to you and I’m only a supporter. I don’t think or feel that it is unfair to me, and besides you are my wife, supporting you is only right." He said inching closer to her.
"But you are the type of person who likes to serve under another. All your life has always been about being in control." Laurel let out a sigh. "That doesn’t matter, just get your family under control... I won’t be lenient next time." She hoped she sounded convincing enough.
Alexander’s brows creased slightly. "My family?" He inched closer again, his figure towering above her. "Aren’t they your family too?"
Instinctively, Laurel stepped back. "Not really... remember the world is destroyed. There is no law... which means I can easily walk out of our marriage."
Alexander’s jaw tightened, his eyes darkening like a storm. "Laurel, you wouldn’t do that... you wouldn’t."
Laurel stopped in her spot when she felt the cold wall behind her back. "I asked you for a divorce but you refused me. Mr. Wayne, our marriage was based on deception and the hatred you bore in your heart for me. You know that we can’t move forward with such strain and not to mention your family... they hate me to my very bones, and not to forget, we don’t have feelings for each other..."
"Stop." Alexander pressed his finger over her lips, his gaze wavered before looking at her. "I admit that our relationship wasn’t the best one but we are getting better now. I’m sorry for hating on you... I don’t think you were the one who drugged me so you could sleep your way into the Wayne family.
But I was wrong... and I’m sorry for every mistake I have made, I’m sorry for neglecting you, and I feel so stupid for not even trying to get to know you or even investigating what happened when we first met and denied those allegations.
Give me one more chance to right this wrong, Laurel... please."
Laurel placed her hand on his chest, pushing him back but he wouldn’t budge.
"Mr. Wayne, there is no point in holding onto me. I’ve already made up my mind."
Laurel knew a lot of events had changed since she was reborn, and that includes Alexander’s behaviour towards her. She could see that he was genuine towards her, but how could she forget the hatred in his eyes when he ordered her to be thrown to the monsters?
If he could switch his feelings as easily as a light switch then how could she guarantee that he wouldn’t hate her again and demand her death?
"Laurel, I love you, give me one more chance." Alexander pleaded leaning closer to her.
Laurel’s heart pounded in her ears. The word ’I love you’ re-echoed in her head. Those were the exact words she wanted to hear so badly in her last life, but all she got was his cold shoulders and his criticism.
Now he loved her?
Alexander’s lips were now inches away from hers.
She placed her slender finger on his lips, stopping him from coming closer. "I can’t, Mr. Wayne." She said, her gaze meeting his.
Alexander pulled away, but his gaze remained fixed on her.
"I need to make sure the fortress is safe. I have to go now Mr. Wayne... think about what I’ve said, I hope you will make the right decision." Laurel said before walking away, her legs were almost jelly and she felt like she was walking funny.
The moment she got away from his line of sight. She leaned against the wall, inhaling and exhaling deeply.
She couldn’t believe that he could still make her feel this way. What was wrong with her? She should hate him and even send him out of the fortress, but why does she hope that he has really changed? Why does a part of her still long for him?
She shook her head. Even if it means going against her own heart, she would definitely not go back to him.
After getting her emotions in control, she straightened up and headed outside the building. When she got outside, a frown settled between her brows.
"What the hell is this?" She muttered under her breath as she stared at the red thick mist that was surrounding the tree’s barrier.
[That is known as the bloody mist. It causes hallucinations and the victims wouldn’t be able to feel pain. The pains are transmitted as pleasure, they could tear off their limbs and still laugh and enjoy the feeling. It is very dangerous and I would advise hosts to stay away from the mist.]
How could she forget about the bloody mist? It was the most deadly disaster after the meteor shower. In her past life, she had seen how derailed the mist could drive its victims.
"If the barrier could hold against the meteor shower, then it should be able to stop the mist from entering the fortress?" She asked, and a strange weight suddenly settled in her chest.
