Chapter 86: Chapter 86 A Whole City?

[Possible. Higher acceleration results in higher energy consumption. I’d also like to inform hosts that energy costs coins.]

Laurel waved her index finger at the screen in front of her in disbelief. "You are so unbelievable."

[Hosts have earned quite a lot of coins and points, do you want me to show the total?]

"Show us." Ling Xuan said, placing her hands behind her back.

[Total;

Points: 12120

Coins: 790]

A faint crease formed between Laurel’s brows. "I thought the points were around 10000?"

[Yes it was. However, hosts are still in beginner level and every mission that has been completed can give points when more of it is completed. Unfortunately, hosts aren’t notified when they complete it again, but the rewards still belong to hosts.]

"Oh that explains it, may I ask which of the missions were completed?" Laurel asked again.

[Mission 002: Securing the field.]

Laurel nodded. The workers had helped her to clear hectares of land, but she had thought it wouldn’t count as it was under construction.

"What about coins?" she asked. "Seven hundred and ninety does not feel like a lot, especially as energy costs coins."

[Coins are considered high-value currency. Hosts are advised to use them carefully.]

"Of course, we don’t plan to misuse it, but I’m wondering, can we use coins to buy weapons from other dimensions?" Ling Xuan asked, her brows raising slightly.

[Hosts may buy anything ranging from food to weapons, anything can be bought across dimensions... However, your current coins are too low to buy a significant weapon.]

Ling Xuan’s brows lifted slightly. "Then what exactly can seven hundred and ninety coins buy?"

The screen flickered in front of them. Rows of items appeared, each labeled with a small description.

[Basic dimensional purchases include enhanced seeds, soil nutrients, protective farming tools, beginner defensive gear, medicinal herbs, water purification cores, and low-tier cultivation manuals.]

Laurel leaned closer, her curiosity rising. "Enhanced seeds?"

[Seeds that have higher survival rates, faster germination, and stronger resistance to disease.]

"That already sounds useful," Laurel murmured. Although they had enough food stockpiled, having more food meant they could easily gain strong influence in the apocalypse.

Ling Xuan remained calm as she scanned the list. "Show price ranges."

[Enhanced seeds (Annual crops mix): 80 coins per pack.

Nutrient concentrate: 50 coins.

Temperature regulators: 120 coins.

Farming tools: 600 coins.

Water purification cores: 200 coins.]

Laurel sucked in a quiet breath. "Everything is expensive."

"Exactly," Ling Xuan added. "But valuable."

Laurel glanced at her. "Even at that it shouldn’t cost this much. Coins are rare but the prices are too steep, we can never meet up with the demands."

Ling Xuan closed her eyes, already having a migraine from thinking about farming.

Ling Xuan opened her eyes, and they moved back to the list. "What about the dimensions themselves? Where are these items coming from?"

[Items are sourced from multiple developed worlds. Some are technologically advanced, while others specialize in biological evolution or spiritual cultivation. Hosts currently have access only to beginner markets.]

"So there are higher markets?" Laurel asked, completely intrigued by the dimension talks. She wondered what it would be like over there, though she was aware that there were multiple dimensions.

[Yes. Access unlocks as hosts level up.]

Laurel folded her arms. "Let me guess... the good things are there."

[Correct.]

Ling Xuan let out a faint breath that almost sounded like a laugh. "As expected."

Laurel tilted her head. "Can we buy food directly?"

[Possible. However, long-term reliance on dimensional food is inefficient. Farming is strongly recommended.]

"That sounds like your polite way of telling us not to be lazy," Laurel said.

[System encourages sustainable growth.]

Ling Xuan’s gaze hardened slightly as she studied the farmland around them. "Seeds are the smarter choice, once planted, they continue giving."

Laurel nodded in agreement. "Weapons can wait for now. Food comes first, we can build a marketplace for people to buy and sell. Then we don’t have to worry about not creating employment for the people."

Ling Xuan nodded, but deep down, that was not her priority. Her priority was getting enough supplies and food for soldiers, so they could start her conquering the world quest. But now that her plan for now was almost the same as Laurel’s, she would give her a listening ear.

Before Ling Xuan could respond, another notification appeared.

[New mission detected.]

[Mission 009: Plant annual crops across five to six hectares of land. The production target must be sufficient to sustain a city for one month.]

Laurel blinked. "A whole city?"

[Reward:

Points: {12000}

Coins: {500}]

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then Laurel inhaled slowly. "That is a big reward."

"It is also a big task," Ling Xuan replied calmly.

Laurel turned in a slow circle, looking across the controlled growth chamber. The neat rows of soil suddenly felt far more important than before.

"We can’t use the purple room, the crops are below Grade B," she said quietly.

"What a sly system," Ling Xuan clicked her tongue in displeasure.

Laurel’s shoulders stiffened slightly. Since the meteor shower began, every thought in her mind had been about survival. Now, for the first time, she felt like they were building something meaningful, however, she would need to rely on external force to be able to complete the mission.

Laurel walked toward one of the empty rows and crouched down, running her fingers lightly through the soil.

"With the accelerated growth here, we could harvest faster than expected," she said thoughtfully. "If we divide the land properly, rotate planting cycles, and use the space water carefully, everything would have been perfect... too bad the grade is too high."

Ling Xuan stood behind her without uttering another word.

A quiet determination settled inside Laurel.

"We should buy the enhanced seeds," she decided.

[Purchase confirmed?]

Laurel glanced at Ling Xuan, who gave a small nod.

"Confirm."

[Enhanced seeds purchased. Coins deducted: 80.]

Laurel exhaled. Spending coins still made her nervous, but this felt right in almost the same way as shopping for clothes.

"We start tomorrow," she said under her breath. "I will assign workers from the farming sector."

Laurel nodded again. Just as she was about to speak, a faint sound echoed through the space.

Knock. Knock.

Laurel froze.

Ling Xuan and her turned toward the door.

"Someone is at my door," Laurel said quickly.

"Go," Ling Xuan replied. "We will discuss more about when to set out when you are less busy."

Laurel hurried out of the growth chamber, crossed the space house, and vanished from the system’s space.

The familiar feeling of the real world settled around her as she unlocked the door.

When she pulled it open, Vera and Felicia stood outside.
