Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 49 Step Down
Ling Xuan pulled over in front of a familiar building. She stepped out of the car, and the hot air brushed her skin.
She stared at the rusty signboard in front of the building, she couldn’t even make out what was written on it.
Two men stood outside, their gaze distant and cold. She walked past them, heading straight inside.
When she entered the reception, a familiar face sat behind the counter. His black and green tattoos of snakes and skulls bulged along his muscles.
The moment his gaze fell on Ling Xuan, a glint flashed through his eyes.
"Young ma’am, you are back again?" The shock in his voice betrayed the intimidating look in his eyes. "How may I be of help to you?" He added.
Ling Xuan glanced at him lazily. "I want to see Enzo."
The man’s back straightened instantly, his eyes narrowed. "I’m afraid my boss is not available right now."
Ling Xuan stared nearly bored a hole through him. "Tell him to come see me, now." She commanded.
The man wanted to snap back at her, but the memories of what she had done to Ugo the last time flashed through his head.
His heart burned with anger, but he couldn’t deny the fear her mere presence commanded. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to inform the boss that the psycho rich lady was back, after all it only meant good business.
"Give me a sec." He said, turning his back on Ling Xuan. He picked up the telephone that was mounted on the wall.
The sound of numbers dialling echoed across the room, followed by a ringing sound.
Beep.
"Boss, the young rich lady from last time wants to see you." He said politely.
"Okay, boss." With that, he placed the telephone back in place and turned to Ling Xuan.
He paused for a second, his eyes flashed with a mixture of excitement. "Come with me, young ma’am."
She felt something was off, however, Ling Xuan followed after him.
She had seen different tricks from both allies and foes before, she wondered what they were up to. Ling Xuan hoped it would be something interesting.
They took the door to the left side of the building, revealing spiral stairs that led down to the underground. It was dark and would have freaked anyone out.
’Interesting.’ Ling Xuan thought to herself.
The man in front of him paused, glancing at her over his shoulder. "Scared?" He asked with a smug look on his face.
Ling Xuan clicked her tongue in annoyance. "Lead the way."
The man gritted his teeth, his chest pumping. He wanted to put her in her place, however, since his boss had wanted her to come to him, it had to be in one piece.
He turned his head with a grunt, descending the stairs.
Meanwhile, outside the building, the two men who stood guard hurried inside the building, turning the signboard from open to closed.
They locked the door and pulled down the curtains, covering the windows.
At the same moment, Ling Xuan arrived at the underground of the building. A huge iron door stood in front of her, she tilted her head slightly, staring at the galvanised door.
Her eyes sharpened, it seemed they were worth bringing under her command. And she realized this mission wasn’t going to be as easy as she had thought.
The door creaked open from behind, and the path that lay ahead was dark with red lights. She could hear the hard beat of music playing. Her nose picked up the sharp scent of cigarettes, marijuana, and shisha burning in the air.
The clicking of glasses and the loud noise of gamblers echoed faintly across the air. Guns and weapons lay on top of the brown tables.
She casually stepped inside the lion’s den, she knew crossing the door meant no going back, and she never intended... not until she fulfilled the reason she had come.
All eyes turned towards her, and the people paused whatever they were doing. Silence stretched across the air brewing with tension.
Ling Xuan tilted her chin high, every step she took exuded confidence and power.
Even the women who were busy trying to please the men had to pause for a moment to stare at the bold woman walking like she owned the place.
The man led Ling Xuan into another door. After Ling Xuan stepped inside, the man immediately lowered his head in respect before stepping out, shutting the door behind him.
The moment the door closed, the noise from outside died down. Only the sound of balls rolling across the board before entering a designated hole echoed through the room.
Ling Xuan stared boredly at Enzo who was wearing a white singlet tucked under his pants. The wolf head tattooed on his upper back was partly visible.
"You know why I’m here, don’t you?" Ling Xuan asked calmly.
Enzo raised his head, glancing at her briefly before returning his attention to the pool pub he was playing. His fingers tightened around the stick slightly, before gently striking it against the ball.
The sound of a ball entering a hole echoed through the room again.
Ling Xuan walked closer, she pondered how long it would take for her to break through him.
"You should know never to take things that don’t belong to you," Enzo replied with gritted teeth before striking again, walking to the other side of the table.
"Are you referring to the bow and arrow... or..?" Ling Xuan folded one hand behind her back, her posture elegant and powerful.
Enzo finally stood straight, returning his full attention to her. "I knew it when I first saw you... I knew you would come back. But you should know by now, you are messing with the wrong person."
"Is that so?" Ling Xuan. "Isn’t the security a little too tight for just one person? We can do this the hard way or the easy way." Ling Xuan let her words settle in the air.
"You only need to step down... I promise you’ll only be second to me." Ling Xuan added.
