Chapter 54: Chapter 52: Did a Dragon Lady Spawn in the Territory?

The number of Southern Territory refugees is increasing.

The arrival of Alliance merchants has sparked a wave of competition among Lion Heart nobles, and the Southern lords have gone mad, doubling the annual ’Winter Tax’!

If the commoners can’t provide enough resources, Levell will send the Iron Guard Corps to forcibly rectify the situation, squeezing them dry.

Countless people are fleeing their homes with their families, freezing to death in the vast snowfields.

Yet, there is hope on this land.

The Hundred-man Squad led by Jay has already been dispatched by Ed. With the advancement and publicity of the Civilian Corps, homeless refugees are starting to gather toward Seagull Town.

Many new camps of various sizes have suddenly appeared on the outskirts of the town.

Lin Lan strolled on the leveled ground with Bai, the snow on the road had been swept clean by the women.

Seagull Town is changing almost daily.

Lin Lan has invested all the resources into the development of the town, most of the idle timber from the manor was used to repair the harbor and then for building the blacksmiths, carpentry workshops, and textile workshops.

The carpenters have endless work every day, but people are putting in all their effort, their work attitude extremely earnest.

Because the Lord would indeed pay them wages!

Though it’s only twenty Copper Coins a day, it’s enough to buy winter food and charcoal, and the rest can even be spent for a couple of drinks in the tavern!

Seeing these diligent people, Lin Lan nodded in satisfaction.

Ed’s tavern is currently managed by the old butler, providing appropriate entertainment and spending for the commoners as a form of positive motivation.

Life always needs a bit of hope, doesn’t it?

In sight, the once barren camp now features workshops of various sizes, becoming like a small factory.

Seagull Town finally possesses the budding shape of a city.

"Uncle Abel, here’s today’s sunshine from me!"

From time to time, a young lad would run into the blacksmith shop excitedly, holding a light ball the size of a fist.

"Just pile it in the corner! Be careful not to get burned by the sparks!"

The blacksmith responded in a muffled voice as he raised his hammer, sweat raining down.

Under Lin Lan’s arrangement, even the children aren’t idle; their daily tasks are fuller than those of adults.

Every morning, the children have to go to the lord’s manor to earnestly learn the Alliance script under Wendy’s guidance.

After lunch, they go to the camp factory to follow Priest Sean in learning the Giant’s language, gradually producing Ash Soil resources.

For some reason, the children prefer following Priest Sean more.

The day before, several children secretly begged Lin Lan with teary eyes, saying Sister Wendy is terrifying and hoping Lin Lan would arrange for them to follow Priest Sean instead.

Lin Lan agreed readily, then coldly and cruelly betrayed them!

This morning, he saw Wendy’s gentle gaze, while the children he reported were pale, trembling as they held their notebooks...

Hope they’ll be alright.

Lin Lan curled his lips into a smile.

He had long decided to promote education within the territory, not leaving any child behind.

After all, the literacy rate among the townspeople was honestly too low.

During the routine inspection rounds, all commoners would voluntarily pause their work upon seeing Lin Lan and then salute the lord respectfully.

Though there was still fear in their hearts, it was no longer to the extent of trembling on the ground when they met face to face.

Further away, young militiamen with iron swords at their waists patrolled the newly built camps, expressions stern.

Population increase is always a good thing.

The Civilian Corps led by Colin remained in the town, maintaining order.

Whether comforting new residents or guarding against potential enemies, the town needed enough manpower.

Yet soon, the settled refugees would be absorbed into the factories or Civilian Corps in batches, eventually becoming part of Seagull Town.

Everything is developing in a better direction.

According to Ed’s report, Jay has already targeted the lord’s mine, with his Decurions scouting the enemy situation around the mine.

Lin Lan let out a cold laugh.

Once the opportunity is ripe, he must let the old fool of Southern lords know what a black hand truly is!

Observing his master’s changing expression, Bai merely tilted her head.

"Lord!"

At this moment, a Decurion carrying a Golden Spear came running hurriedly.

He stopped beside Lin Lan, reporting loudly, "Two strange individuals have mixed into the town, and we’ve caught them!"

"Strange individuals?"

Lin Lan was taken aback, "How strange?"

"One is a very tall strange woman, with sharp teeth, red eyes like a lizard, and a thick black tail on her back!"

The Decurion gestured and described, "She was lying on the riverbank, looking like she was about to die."

"The other is a small dwarf with particularly pointed ears."

The Decurion scratched his head, "The dwarf claimed to be a genius graduate of the Alliance White Tower Academy, said we have no right to deal with them, in short, it’s hard to understand."

"Take me to see them."

"Yes!"

·

On the snow-covered coastline.

Several militia members wielding long swords were full of vigilance, staring intently at the unexpected guests washed ashore by sea ice.

The petite, freckled witch with golden cropped hair was about to burst into tears.

She urgently pushed at her companion’s body, "Captain, you’ve got to get up!"

"Lucia...there’s something wrong with this wretched place...it’s so heavy..."

The woman dressed in a deep black leather coat lay on the ground.

Clenching her teeth, she spoke weakly, "I didn’t expect...this small town...to be so heavy...it’s even heavier than cities of the Alliance and Empire..."

The legendary pirate ruling the seas was now like a deflated balloon.

She didn’t even have the strength to stand.

"You need to find a way to get me back to the ship...First Mate..."

Eleanor was already gasping weakly, "I am the King of Chaos Pirates, I can’t possibly capsize in this cursed place..."

"Clearly, you were the one who wanted to land to explore the secrets of the Third Era’s stars! Now you’ve dumped the mess onto me!"

Lucia looked devastated, her tone collapsing, "Besides, our ship has already sunk to the seafloor!"

She warily watched the soldiers surrounding them, beginning to twitch her long ears, listening to everyone’s thoughts.

Even as Captain Eleanor mustered her energy, using sharp teeth and a conjured tail to try and scare them, the people remained unmoved!

Haven’t they seen Doragon people? Don’t they know how terrifying Doragon people are?

For a brief moment, Lucia expressed despair.

They truly didn’t know...

Now we’re doomed!

Soon, the barbaric local lord will capture both her and the captain, strip them naked, and do all sorts of unspeakable things to them!

"Lord, it’s them!"

In the distance came the Decurion’s shout, and the militia immediately split to two sides, protecting the lord at the same time.

At first glance, Lin Lan spotted the peculiar black-haired woman, looking weak.

Crimson slit eyes, sharp fangs, and that familiar tail...

Is it the Historian?! 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"Hoo!"

In the next moment, the black-haired woman snarled fiercely at them.

Why huffing out breath?
