Apocalypse Foodie System: Watch Her Cook!-Chapter 20 - 16: Shame and Vexation
Tang Yiyi secretly slipped the chef’s knife into the system backpack when Sun Jian wasn’t paying attention. Then, holding a gun pointed at Sun Jian in one hand, she picked up the keys and personal terminal from the ground with the other. Once she had everything in hand, she slowly retreated step by step to the garbage truck, opened the door, and climbed in.
By the time Sun Jian returned with Wang Jian’s belongings, Tang Yiyi had almost figured out the garbage truck. She had learned driving skills for both armored vehicles and ordinary cars in school, and although she hadn’t driven a garbage truck before, many things were similar, and with a bit of study, it was easy to get the hang of.
Even though Sun Jian was cowardly by nature, she didn’t trust him. After all, they were strangers to each other, and she had killed Wang Jian, effectively making her an enemy in Sun Jian’s eyes. How could she possibly trust him? Since she decided to use this garbage truck to leave, it was only natural she wanted to have control over it. As for Sun Jian, as long as he was smart and obedient, she wouldn’t harm him. But if he dared to have any ill intentions, he couldn’t blame her for what happened next!
After all, this wasn’t Safe City, and even if she killed someone, no one would trace it back to her!
As Sun Jian reached the door, there was a rustling sound from the distance. Hearing this, his face turned even paler. Without worrying about angering Tang Yiyi, he quickly opened the door and climbed into the truck, locking the door tightly! Tang Yiyi was sitting in the passenger seat. Initially, she wanted to drive herself, but after contemplating, she abandoned the thought.
Once she started driving, she would have to focus all her attention on it and wouldn’t be able to keep a gun pointed at Sun Jian. If Sun Jian harbored malicious intent, it would be too easy for him to make a move against her! She couldn’t give Sun Jian even the slightest chance! However, before Sun Jian got in, she had already placed all the usable weapons and medicines from the truck into the system backpack, leaving only an energy gun and an alloy short knife by her side. Even if Sun Jian tried any tricks, he wouldn’t have any weapons. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Milk Tea lay between the two seats, and as soon as Sun Jian got in, it stared at him alertly, baring its teeth and letting out a low warning growl. Seeing this, Tang Yiyi smiled with satisfaction and calmly commanded Milk Tea, "Milk Tea, keep an eye on him. If he dares to make any moves, take action directly, no need to show mercy!"
Milk Tea let out a dissatisfied bark at her, not forgetting to remind, "You promised to give me something tasty, don’t forget!"
Seeing its round blue eyes and its fluffy, chubby little head, Tang Yiyi couldn’t resist the urge to reach out and pat it. However, considering its dirty appearance, she silently withdrew her hand and coldly looked out the window. Just as she feared, Wang Jian’s blood had attracted the mutant beasts of Garbage Mountain. The battle armor on his body had been stripped off by Sun Jian, and now his entire body was surrounded by mutant beasts.
The strong scent of blood stimulated the savage nature of the mutant beasts, and after several bites, Wang Jian’s corpse had turned into a bloody mess, with bones even exposed in some places. Tang Yiyi didn’t want to look anymore; she wasn’t someone who delighted in cruelty or bloodlust. Initially, she hadn’t intended to kill; she merely wanted to use the garbage truck to leave. Had Wang Jian not harbored inappropriate thoughts, she wouldn’t have taken such drastic action!
She glanced at Sun Jian, noticing the frown on his face filled with unwillingness. All her life, it was her first time meeting a man as timid and cowardly as Sun Jian, which made her look down on him. In a world where only the strong survived, someone with Sun Jian’s disposition deserved whatever came his way! In her view, people could lack skills or abilities—after all, some things are inborn and unchangeable. But if even courage and dignity were gone, who would take you seriously?
At least Sun Jian was a superpower user, yet he didn’t know how to retaliate when bullied, and when the bully died, he even felt unwillingness. Truly, like mud that couldn’t stick to a wall!
Her gaze was too cold, and the disdain in her eyes was too obvious. Being stared at by her like this, Sun Jian shivered, his face turning even whiter as he stammered nervously, "So... so many mutant beasts, w-w-we better... better h-hurry and leave?" As he spoke, he cautiously watched Tang Yiyi, fearing he’d provoke her and be shot.
Upon hearing this, Tang Yiyi’s gaze grew even more disdainful, yet she kept the gun steadily aimed at his head without a moment’s deviation. She said coldly, "Why are you wasting time talking? Get moving! Get us out of here, and find a safe, quiet spot to stop. Don’t try any tricks, or I’ll kill you!"
Terrified, Sun Jian blurted out quickly in a plea, "I... I get it, don’t... don’t shoot!"
Annoyed by his chattering, Tang Yiyi warned him again before Sun Jian started the vehicle and drove away from Garbage Mountain. While keeping an eye on the route, Tang Yiyi instructed Sun Jian, "Now tell me your and that dead guy’s names, ages, and family circumstances. If you dare hide anything from me, don’t blame me for being impolite! You’re not the only one who can drive this truck!"
Hearing this, Sun Jian felt bitter inside. He had long noticed Tang Yiyi’s bare wrist, indicating she had no personal terminal. Such a person was likely a fugitive; how unlucky could he be to run into her! He didn’t understand why Tang Yiyi needed this information but dared not hide anything. Wang Jian’s fate was still fresh in his mind! Thinking of Wang Jian, he couldn’t help but curse inwardly, serves you right. If that guy hadn’t been so lustful and let his guard down, how would he have ended up like this?
But he had always been timid and cowardly, only daring to think such thoughts in his heart, not daring to voice them. He sneaked a peek at Tang Yiyi, seeing her growing impatient, and obediently confessed, "My name is Sun Jian, I’m 32, and I live alone. The guy you killed was called Wang Jian, 43 years old, also alone."
Tang Yiyi kept her eyes fixed on him, unsure if what he said was true, and continued to ask, "Where do you live then?"
Sun Jian had no choice but to continue, "I have a small place, and he was living at my house." At this, a wave of resentment arose in his heart: Wang Jian was a drunkard, womanizer, and gambler, squandering his credit points on women and gambling. He occupied Sun Jian’s house to save rent and forced him to buy alcohol. If Sun Jian dared not comply, he would get a beating. Now that Wang Jian was dead, Sun Jian felt liberated. However, recalling Wang Jian’s gruesome end, he couldn’t help but feel Tang Yiyi’s actions were too ruthless.
Tang Yiyi didn’t know what he was thinking, but she gleaned some clues from his expression. She suspiciously glanced at Sun Jian and couldn’t help but say, "So that’s the kind of relationship you had. He didn’t seem like a good person anyway, and only someone like you would still have lingering feelings for him."
Sun Jian’s face turned beet red with embarrassment and anger at her words, and he shouted back at her with indignation, "Don’t talk nonsense! I didn’t have that kind of relationship with him!"
