Apocalypse Baby-Chapter 84: Damn Monkeys: Rejection
[Ding!]
[You have caught the eye of the Speed God, Savatar.]
[Would you like to be bound to this god, becoming his legacy holder and venturing on the path of speed?]
[I don’t take many candidates, human. Be honored you’re one of them...]
Alex didn’t even pause to think and refused without any hesitation.
"No."
This name Savatar sounded like a big deal, sure, but Alex wasn’t about to sell his freedom. He had already turned down the Blood Monarch’s offer for the same reason.
Why?
Because God be damned, he’d forge his own path.
He didn’t need to bow to some divine being to gain power.
He’d get stronger on his terms.
[Speed God Savatar has decided to upgrade your skill.]
[Dash has now become Zoom.]
[Zoom: Your speed increases by 30% with reduced Mana cost usage.]
Another notification followed.
[Will you accept Savatar’s legacy?]
[Human, if you accept, you could gain more skills like this.]
Alex stared at the message with a blank expression, unimpressed.
He crossed his arms, letting out a small sigh. Was this supposed to be tempting? he wondered.
What a joke.
It was almost laughable how desperate the god sounded.
Alex wasn’t about to be lured by a few shiny upgrades dangled in front of him like bait and Savatar seemed to have realized that as another new notification appeared, glowing faintly in the corner of Alex’s vision.
[Ding!]
[Speed God Savatar has decided to upgrade your skill.]
[Zoom is now Blur.]
[Blur: Your speed increases by 50% with even lower Mana cost usage.]
[Consider my generosity, human, and accept my offer. It won’t get better than this.]
Alex rolled his eyes and scoffed. Though he was please with the free upgrades he was getting he had no intention of accepting any offer.
"You and your generosity can go eat shit," he replied, his voice dripping with mockery.
[...]
The system fell silent for a moment.
Alex’s lips curled into a mischievous grin.
He wasn’t done poking the bear—or in this case, the god. He wanted to push his luck just for the fun of it.
"You know what?" Alex said, his tone playful, "Maybe... maybe if you upgraded the skill one more time, I’d think about it."
The response was almost immediate.
[Ding!]
[Speed God Savatar has decided to upgrade your skill.]
Alex snorted, barely containing his laughter.
"No way. This dumbass is actually doing it."
The next notification came, and it seemed infused with a flicker of divine irritation.
[Blur is now...]
The message then cut off all of a sudden.
And a new notification popped up.
[Speed God Savatar is about to lose his patience with you.]
[Accept his legacy now or face the wrath of...]
[Damn you... how dare a mere human toy with me?! Do you think I wouldn’t see past your trickery?!]
Before the message could finish, Alex waved his hand dismissively, swiping the notification away like it was an annoying mosquito.
Alex casually swiped the notification away like it was a pesky fly. Continue your adventure with novelbuddy
He didn’t care whether the so-called Speed God, Savatar, was furious, offended, or ready to explode.
Alex knew one simple truth: gods had rules, and those rules bound them just as much as they bound mortals.
Sure, maybe Savatar would try for revenge later, but that didn’t scare him in the slightest.
Another string of notifications popped up in the corner of his vision, glowing with urgency, but Alex didn’t even bother reading them.
With a flick of his hand, he dismissed the messages entirely.
It seemed the Oracle system had granted players the privilege to ignore even divine beings message now—but Alex wasn’t pleased what he should e doing was prevent gods from forcefully pulling players into a conversation.
But whatever.
He now had a powerful new speed skill and the best part was that he didn’t have to do anything to get it.
"Man, what a dumbass," Alex muttered, shaking his head in disbelief.
It was almost laughable how the Speed God had upgraded his skill twice despite Alex outright rejecting him.
"Aigoo..." Alex sighed dramatically.
He could feel the god’s growing rage. As Alex was snubbing is messages.
The air around him grew heavy, charged with a crackling intensity, but the pressure wasn’t as intense as that of the blood monarch.
It seemed the Overseer had finally decided to enforce the rules.
That bastard.
Why hadn’t he done anything to prevent this when the Blood Monarch brought an offer. He even let the god injure him before intervening.
Seriously the inconsistency was maddening.
The thought of that smug rabbit-like figure toying with him sent a wave of irritation coursing through him.
Suspicion brewed in Alex’s mind.
The Overseer’s motives were never clear, but whatever the reason, he doubted it was anything good.
Still locked in the temporary zone granted by the Speed God, Alex’s thoughts began to wander.
What if I raised another one of my attributes to a hundred points?
His brow furrowed in thought.
The source of this c𝐨ntent is freёnovelkiss.com.
Would he be contacted by a different god, one tied to that new attribute? Would he receive another skill?
Most likely, Alex reasoned.
But getting points wasn’t exactly a walk in the park.
Every stat point he had earned had been hard-fought, and this new discovery meant he’d have to make a tough choice.
Should he use his free stat points to push another attribute to a hundred? Or should he save those points and focus on using an upgrade stone to rank up one of his existing skills?
The choice is obvious.
Alex had no intention of dealing with any more of these overbearing gods.
Avoiding them entirely seemed like the smartest play.
It seemed the Speed God, Savatar, had finally reached the end of his patience—or perhaps he had simply run out of time.
The grip of his godly "zone" began to fracture.
Cracks spread like spiderwebs across the frozen reality, and with a sudden snap, time resumed.
The Monkey King, who had been frozen in place moments before, suddenly stirred. Its piercing gaze locked onto Alex, suspicion clear in its eyes.
"Have you been waiting for me?" Alex asked like he was talking to a baby. "Awww... you’re such a good boy."
The monkey king frowned at Alex antic.
