Chapter 453 - 406: Sailor Moon Airs for the First Time
Sunday, 21 December 1992 – Morning
Yuuta Hamasaki was a middle schooler unlike most of his peers. While other boys his age were glued to their game consoles, Yuuta's heart belonged to something else entirely: storytelling. Whether it was movies, TV shows, or anime, Yuuta thrived on narratives and characters. Sure, he owned a ZEPS and ZGB—birthday gifts from his well-meaning parents—but they collected more dust than playtime hours. Gaming wasn't a passion, just an occasional diversion.
Yuuta's favorites were Kamen Rider Black and the surprisingly charming anime adaptation of SpongeBob. He had recently learned that ZAGE—and more specifically, Zaboru, its enigmatic founder—had a hand in both. The idea that the same person responsible for revolutionizing video games could also produce hit anime fascinated him. Zaboru wasn't just a "God of Games," Yuuta thought. He was a storyteller, a worldbuilder.
But now SpongeBob has ended. The final episode's "To be continued" left a strange emptiness in Yuuta's Sunday ritual. Usually, after watching Kamen Rider Black on TOEI TV, he'd switch to TV Tokyo to catch SpongeBob. Today, he sat on the floor in front of the TV, hoping something would fill that void.
"I wonder if YaDo will make something new... or maybe they're taking a break after SpongeBob?" Yuuta mused aloud.
A few minutes passed. The screen shifted. A new anime began.
"Whoa! A new show? Let's see what this is."
The title sparkled onto the screen: Sailor Moon.
The episode introduced a girl named Usagi Tsukino. Yuuta's eyebrows furrowed.
"A girl protagonist? Huh... might not be my thing. But I'll give it a shot."
Usagi's story began with a simple act—rescuing a mysterious black cat. When the cat clawed her forehead, it left behind not pain, but a crescent moon symbol. Curious, she bandaged the spot and carried on. The episode progressed with lighthearted moments and comedic school scenes that Yuuta found mildly amusing, enough to keep him watching. After school, Usagi and her friend Naru Osaka visit a local jewelry store owned by Naru's mother. The store is unusually crowded, filled with women desperate to purchase sparkling accessories being sold at suspiciously low prices. Usagi, more focused on chatting than shopping, notices the odd behavior of the customers but doesn't give it too much thought. It's there she bumps into a mysterious older boy, Mamoru Chiba, who teases her about her grades. Embarrassed and annoyed, she storms off.
Later that evening, the black cat from earlier reappears in her room. This time, the cat speaks clearly, introduces herself as Luna, and explains that Usagi is destined to become a guardian of justice. Luna gives her a magical brooch, instructing her to say, "Moon Prism Power, Make Up!" when the time comes.
That time arrives sooner than expected. Usagi hears a scream from the jewelry store and rushes back. Naru is in danger—attacked by a monster named Morga, who had been impersonating her mother all along. The jewelry being sold was cursed, used to drain life energy from unsuspecting customers. With Luna's encouragement, Usagi uses the brooch, triggering her transformation into Sailor Moon.
Glowing ribbons and radiant light swirl around her, reshaping her school uniform into a dazzling sailor suit. With newfound power, she faced Morga—still trembling, yet unwilling to run. As the monster advanced on her, a masked stranger in a tuxedo suddenly appeared. With a rose tossed into the fray, he momentarily distracted Morga, allowing Usagi to regain her footing. Though frightened, Usagi's emotional cries resonated with an unknown power, weakening Morga. Guided by Luna's encouragement and instinct, she flung her tiara like a disc, unleashing the "Moon Tiara Magic" attack.
The attack hit its mark. Morga disintegrated into dust, the spell over the jewelry customers was broken, and Naru was saved. Before vanishing into the shadows, the mysterious stranger revealed his name—Tuxedo Mask—leaving Usagi stunned but thankful.
It was clumsy, it was chaotic, but it was her first victory. Through emotion, courage, and the support of allies, Usagi had stepped into her role as Sailor Moon. It was the beginning of her transformation—not just into a magical girl, but into a heroine.
Yuuta is mind-blown when the transformation sequence begins—vibrant music, glowing ribbons, and magical energy surround Usagi as she turns into Sailor Moon. Yuuta's casual interest transformed into genuine excitement.
Yuuta's eyes widened. "Whoa! That was awesome!" He was clearly mesmerized. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
By the end of the episode, Yuuta was on his feet, buzzing with energy.
"I... I didn't expect to like it this much. That was actually cool!"
He smiled to himself, already certain he'd tune in next week. And across Japan, a wave of young viewers—boys and girls alike—were similarly swept up by the magic of Usagi Tsukino.
Meanwhile, at ZAGE HQ, Zaboru had decided to take the day off. Instead of diving into design documents or game builds, he was relaxing at his Workshops, cuddled on the couch with Ayumi, his girlfriend. Together, they were watching Sailor Moon's premiere.
Ayumi was captivated. "Whoa! She's transforming!"
Zaboru chuckled as Ayumi leaned her head on his shoulder.
"This is so cool," she murmured. "And her name's Usagi... You knew I loved rabbits, didn't you?
Zaboru smiled, keeping his eyes on the screen. "Yes, Ayumi?"
Ayumi nudged him playfully. "Did you base her on me? Come on, tell me the truth. Her name's Usagi. That can't be a coincidence."
Zaboru hesitated for only a second before grinning.
"Yup. I did."
Ayumi giggled with delight and wrapped her arms around him. Zaboru let her believe it. After all, in his previous life, Usagi Tsukino had always been her name. But what harm was there in a little white lie if it made someone you love smile?
Then, as the episode came to an end, the show's iconic opening theme, "Moonlight Densetsu," began to play—marking the start of what would become one of the most beloved anthems in anime history.
Gomen ne sunao janakute Yume no naka nara ieru Shikoukairo wa short sunzen Ima sugu aitaiyo Nakitaku naru youna moonlight Denwa mo dekinai midnight Datte junjo doushiyou Heart wa mangekyou
Tsuki no hikari ni michibikare Nando mo meguri au
The song's wistful melody and poetic lyrics washed over the viewers, a perfect complement to the episode's blend of magic, emotion, and destiny. The romantic tension and adventure hinted at in the song's verses deepened the sense that this wasn't just another magical girl show—it was something special, something unforgettable.
Ayumi's eyes lit up. "Hey, I know this song! It's from one of your albums, right? Right? If I'm not mistaken, it's called Moonlight Densetsu, isn't it?"
Then, her expression suddenly shifted to a playful pout. "Humph! This is sung by that hot female vocalist from your Zankoku Band, isn't it?"
Zaboru chuckled and gently patted her head. "Yes, it's Moonlight Densetsu. And like I've always said—don't be jealous, Ayumi. You're the only one in my heart."
He sighed inwardly. Saying things like that always worked like magic. As expected, Ayumi giggled and hugged him again, her jealousy melting into affection.
