Chapter 269 - 239 Endo Play The Legend of Zelda
Thursday 27 March 1992 Afternoon
After school ended, Endo wasted no time running home, eager to continue his gaming streak on ZEPS. Having already conquered Contra from the latest March releases, he had his sights set on The Legend of Zelda. The moment he stepped inside, he threw his bag aside, rushed to his gaming setup, and grabbed the game's box with excitement.
As always, the package contained four items inside. He eagerly searched for the familiar Black and Gray Z card, or better yet, the Zabo-man card. This time, the message read, "If I see you, I might attack you!" Endo raised an eyebrow. "Huh? Is Zabo-man an enemy in this game? Now I really need to see what happens!" Without hesitation, he inserted the cartridge into his ZEPS and powered on the console, ready to embark on another adventure.
The screen lit up with an 8-bit cinematic, setting the stage for the journey ahead.
"The land of Hyrule is in danger after the dark prince Ganon steals the Triforce of Power, one of three sacred relics that grant immense power. Princess Zelda, the ruler of Hyrule, possesses the Triforce of Wisdom, but knowing she cannot defeat Ganon alone, she shatters it into eight pieces and hides them across the land. Before being captured by Ganon's forces, Zelda sends her nursemaid, Impa, to find a hero who can rescue her and stop Ganon. During her escape, Impa is cornered by monsters but is saved by Link, a courageous young adventurer. After hearing of Zelda's plight, Link sets off on a quest!"
Endo whistled in appreciation. "Damn, as expected, ZEPS games always have a rich story!"
The game started with Link standing in an open area in Hyrule. A small notification appeared at the top of the screen: "Go to the cave to get your starting weapons and items." Following the instruction, Endo guided Link inside the cave, where an old man awaited him. The elderly figure handed Link a wooden sword and spoke the used iconic words on Zaboru Previous life, "It's dangerous to go alone! Take this!" The notification popped up: "Wooden Sword Acquired!"
Endo smirked. "Ohh Weapon Get!! Alright, time to get moving!"
Zaboru had upgraded the ZEPS version of The Legend of Zelda with significant improvements—enhanced graphics, better gameplay mechanics, and even subtle indicators for hidden paths behind bushes or walls, making exploration feel smoother and more immersive. These refinements made every discovery feel more rewarding without compromising the challenge.
Endo grinned as he roamed the vast world, slicing through mobs of monsters in the thick jungle. Along the way, he acquired bombs, which he instinctively knew would be crucial for secret passages. At a merchant's shop, he purchased a blue candle, recalling how it was used in the game manual of the game to reveal hidden areas. Wasting no time, he experimented by burning a suspicious tree, uncovering a hidden staircase leading to a valuable treasure. He also bought the shield that merchants sell , he definitely thinks that the shield is important for later.
The thrill of discovery kept him on edge. He then bought a shield to deflect fireball attacks. A few minutes later, he noticed something odd—a section of the cave wall had a slight crack.
"Wait a second... Can I bomb this?" He quickly selected a bomb from his inventory and placed it near the crack. The explosion revealed a hidden passage leading to a secret cave.
"YES! I KNEW IT!" he shouted in triumph as he navigated inside, finding a heart container that increased Link's maximum health. His excitement grew. "Man, this game is incredible!"
Encouraged by his success, he pressed forward, eventually reaching the first dungeon—The Eagle. He carefully maneuvered through the dark, eerie corridors, fighting off enemies lurking in the shadows. The challenge increased, but so did his determination. After adventuring quite a while and eliminating waves of foes, he finally reached the dungeon boss—a massive, fire-spewing dragon named Aquamentus.

The dragon let out a deafening roar and unleashed a barrage of fireballs in Link's direction. Endo reacted instantly, raising his shield to block the attacks before lunging forward to strike with his sword. The battle was intense, with Aquamentus retaliating aggressively, forcing Endo to rely on both patience and precision. After a fierce back-and-forth exchange, he delivered the final blow, sending the dragon crashing to the ground in a dramatic explosion of pixels.
A triumphant jingle played as the first Triforce piece appeared on-screen. Endo beamed with satisfaction. "Hell yeah! First piece down!" As he moved closer, he noticed something else lying on the floor—a bow.
"Whoa! A bow?!" He eagerly picked it up, and a notification appeared: "Bow Acquired!"
Unlike its original counterpart, Zaboru had modified the mechanics of the bow in the ZEPS version. Instead of consuming rupees with every shot, arrows had a chance of dropping from defeated enemies, adding a layer of resource management to the gameplay. Endo quickly tested it, finding it to be an effective long-range weapon that would definitely help in future battles.
"This is amazing! Alright, onto the next dungeon!" he said, eyes sparkling with excitement.
As he guided Link deeper into the game, he couldn't help but admire the level of detail and thought that had gone into every aspect of the experience. From the hidden mechanics to the strategic combat, The Legend of Zelda on ZEPS was proving to be one of the most immersive adventures he had ever played. And he was just getting started.
To be continued.
