Her opponents were two rampaging orichalcum golems.

These golems had been stationed near the walls to protect the dwarf village. Some were also placed within the village itself, but now they were out of control, attempting to destroy the very walls they were meant to defend.

Rena-sama was trying to stop them.

Stone golems were one thing, but orichalcum golems were incredibly strong.

Kouki, who was fighting beside me, cast an anxious gaze toward her.

「Luusien. You and Kouki fall back. Be ready to retreat if anything happens. You understand the consequences if something happens to Kouki, don’t you?」

Rena-sama turned to me as she spoke.

Her eyes were cold.

「YES, MA’AM! LET'S RETREAT, KOUKI-SAMA! EVERYONE, MOVE!」

I grabbed Kouki’s hand and called out to my comrades.

Kouki hesitated.

「We have to leave this dangerous place, Kouki-sama.」

「We’re just a hindrance to Rena-sama. We should go~.」

Oleora and Piara urged him to retreat.

「Leave this to me, Kouki. Don’t worry. Those orichalcum golems may be powerful, but I won’t lose to them. I can handle this.」

Only after Rena-sama reassured him did Kouki finally agree to leave with us.

「Yes, dear Mother.」

He was still reluctant, but hearing his mother’s confidence convinced him.

We needed to stay as far away as possible.

We hurried along.

The village’s ramparts were sturdy, but the passages were wide to accommodate the golems, making them difficult to defend if breached from within.

「Piara, Tess, have you found a safe place?」

「No. The wind has been acting strangely for a while now~.」

「Same here, Luusien-sama. My detection ability isn’t working properly. It might be because of that barrier.」

Piara and Tess shook their heads as we ran through the corridor.

「If even the two of you are affected… That means we’re in serious danger.」

Even my magic had barely been working for a while now. This had never happened before.

「WAIT!」

Kouki suddenly stopped.

「What’s wrong, Kouki-sama?」

「Something feels… off in that direction.」

He looked straight ahead.

Then, from around the corner, a figure emerged.

The one who appeared was a red-haired wolfman.

A familiar figure.

The red-haired wolfman, Yasab, laughed in amusement. A few other wolfmen followed behind him, including the white-haired elder, Kajiega.

I never expected them to have already infiltrated the village.

Stepping back to shield Kouki, I drew my sword.

There were seven of them in total, including Yasab and Kajiega.

Fortunately, they were few in number.

Unfortunately, so were we.

And worst of all—Yasab’s sword was stronger than mine.

Just thinking about how to defeat him made cold sweat run down my back.

「We came to assassinate the dwarf general. Too bad we couldn’t find him.」

Kajiega spoke with a disappointed expression.

Wolfmen were naturally larger and stronger than humans or elves like us, and Yasab was even stronger than the average wolfman.

Yet standing before him, defying all logic, was Kouki—so much smaller, yet unwavering.

I gazed at his back.

Though he was so short that he barely reached my waist—right now, he looked taller than anyone.

「Your opponent is me!」

Kouki brandished his sword, his voice ringing with determination.
