Chapter 49: Twilight

He got back on his feet, taking his stance again. This time, the golem didn’t wait for him to be ready; it charged at him, its feet slamming into the ground, making the cave shake.

It threw a full-powered punch at Riven, aiming at his head, but Riven was prepared. He cast Flame Wall, and the fist slammed into the wall, decimating it, but giving Riven enough time to get away. He moved to the side very fast and ran behind the golem.

The golem swung its fist backward. Riven dodged and pushed forward, then used Flame Arc, slashing from a few meters away from the golem.

The flame arc hit it right in the chest, but besides one step back, the golem had very little reaction to the attack.

’I knew it was strong, but I didn’t think it was that strong,’ Riven thought. Now that his attack had not worked, he retreated to try again, but the golem grabbed him before he could go far and tossed him into a wall.

Riven slammed into the wall, and everything went black for a moment before light returned. When he looked, he saw that he was down on the ground with a puddle of blood near his head, more blood staining his mouth.

He cleaned his mouth and got back up. He picked up his sword again and pointed it at the golem. This fight was not going anywhere, but he had to give it his all if he was going to survive here and take his brother out.

The golem was not supposed to be on the first floor of any dungeon, even higher-level dungeons. It was a guardian, usually guarding something very important deep in the dungeon. freewёbnoνel.com

The golem saw that Riven was back on his feet, so it attacked again, rushing in like a bull. It threw a punch, wanting to smash him into the ground.

"It’s now or never," Riven said, and then used Flame Blast at point-blank range with the fist. The force of the explosion threw the golem’s hand back and sent Riven flying into a wall, but he managed to get control midair and pressed his feet against the wall, using it to propel himself fast and charge at the golem.

He stretched out his hands and used Flame Blast again, striking the golem right on the chest and pushing it a few steps back again. He jumped into the air, going as high as he could.

He stabbed down with his sword, right at the eye of the golem. The sword dug into the right eye, going all the way into the head.

"Roarrrrrrrrrrr!" The golem let out a resounding roar, shaking the entire cave. Riven was happy at this development, but then his expression changed when the golem grabbed him and started pulling him apart in rage.

"Arghhhhhhhhhh!" Riven cried in pain. He felt his consciousness fade as the pain shot through his entire body.

Boom.

A huge lightning bolt struck the golem’s arm. The lightning broke off a part of the arm. The golem let go of Riven and turned its attention to whoever had attacked.

Riven hit the floor, his breathing heavy and sharp. He had almost lost his life in that instant.

"I told you, you couldn’t fight him," Noel said. He stood facing the golem, his sword crackling with lightning.

"Whatever," Riven said, his tone completely exhausted.

The golem stared at Noel. It raised its hand, and a red light formed on its palm before it shot a sharp piece of stone.

Noel moved fast and blocked the stone, but more soon started coming. The stones traveled as fast as a shot arrow, whistling through the air.

Noel did his best, blocking the attacks left and right, but he was getting pushed back, and some of the stones managed to graze him and cut him.

Riven got up from the ground, groaning louder as he moved. He took a stance with his sword and got ready. He took a deep breath, remembering what Dark said about Twilight. It was a special sword, its sharpness was amazing—what was lacking now was his strength.

If he managed to put enough strength behind his attack, his sword would cut.

While Riven was just thinking about how to use Twilight, some of his mana seeped into the sword, and Twilight began sucking out more of the mana.

Riven was shocked to see this, but he didn’t stop it. He wanted to see what this blade would do. It kept going until a light glow emanated from the sword.

In that moment, he didn’t know why, but he trusted the sword and attacked. He charged in, his sword going for the leg of the golem. The golem spotted him and swung back to slam him, but Riven wasn’t budging this time.

He rolled and dodged the arm, but it grazed his back and seriously bruised him. Gritting his teeth, he pushed once more and slashed at the leg. His sword hit the leg of the golem, but unlike before, it cut through instantly.

The golem let out a thunderous roar, and as it fell, it slammed Riven away into a wall. Riven hit the wall for the third time and fell down flat on the ground, struggling to breathe. The glow of his sword died down.

Noel took the opportunity that his brother had created for him and cast his spell immediately. A huge bolt of lightning shot through the air and slammed into the golem, blasting one of its hands. The damage done was not much, but the attacks were effective.

Noel continued his barrage, keeping the golem down with persistent attacks, one after the other. But soon, he started running out of mana and stamina. His breathing was forced, and the spell slowly started getting ineffective.

"Shit, shit, my younger brother managed to cut off its leg, and I’m unable to make any good damage! I won’t leave it at that!" Noel yelled.
