American Tax Officer-Chapter 523 - 268: Funeral_3
"No problem, I’ll arrange it immediately!"
In the prison visitation room, David arrived first.
After waiting for about five minutes, the door opened and a prison guard escorted Victoria inside.
Compared to her elegant demeanor before her arrest, Victoria now, clad in prison garb and devoid of any makeup, appeared to have a touch more of a woman’s posture.
"It’s you!"
Upon entering and seeing David waiting, Victoria was first startled, then a look of resentment appeared in her eyes.
"Sit down, let’s talk!"
"What do I have to talk to you about?"
"Just talk, it’s to your benefit!"
Having said that, while Victoria still harbored resentment, she ultimately sat down.
"Ms. Victoria, you don’t look well. Our IRS prison conditions are supposed to be better than the average prison’s. Are you not accustomed to living here?"
David’s words nearly provoked Victoria to curse on the spot.
Her Camora family had been part of Los Angeles’s high society for so long, and she herself always acted like a pampered wealthy woman.
Now suddenly thrown into prison, who the hell could get used to this?
During her time locked up, she felt as if each day were a year, and the thought of her sentence lasting a thousand more years made her want to die even more.
David gave a slight smile and said, "It seems you truly aren’t used to it here. Well, there’s something I’d like to ask for your cooperation on. If you cooperate well, you might have a chance to get out in this lifetime, see the world again. How about it?"
Upon hearing the possibility of getting out, Victoria immediately brushed aside her other thoughts and looked at David with excited eyes. "Really, I have a chance to get out?"
"Yes, depending on your performance!"
"What do you need me to do?"
"It’s simple. I know your family had dealings with the Sackler family in the past, and that you were in charge of procuring OxyContin from them. So, I want you to testify about this matter in court when the time comes."
"What, you’re going after the Sackler family?"
Victoria was stunned.
Because prison information is somewhat isolated, she wasn’t fully aware of the recent events on the outside.
"That’s right, interested?"
"Charging the Sackler family... they’re Jewish people with deep roots, not like our Camora family..."
Victoria seemed hesitant.

"That’s not for you to worry about. You just need to tell me whether you’re willing or not."
"Of course I’m willing, but..."
"But what?"
"I’m sure you know, the Sacklers, despite the big scandal, remain unshaken not just because they’re Jewish, but also because of the network of connections they have built in California. Accusing them also poses a great risk to me, so... so..."
Hearing this, David understood that Victoria was trying to bargain with him. However, he didn’t immediately object, but instead asked indifferently, "What do you want?"
"I want... a pardon!"
"Sorry, I can’t do that!"
David was amused.
So you’ve been sentenced to a thousand years and you think a testimony will get you a pardon?
Isn’t that a bit too naive?
Or do you take me for a fool?
"Not Director David, you can do it. I know that the higher-ups at the IRS hold you in high regard. If you apply to them, they will surely approve. If you agree, not only can I help you testify, I’ll do anything you want in the future, anything at all..."
In the end, Victoria spoke almost pleadingly.
Imprisoned and serving a long sentence here, there was no chance for a reduction, and parole wasn’t possible either.
If she wanted to leave this place, it would either be through death.
Or... only David could save her now!
So when she heard that there was a chance for freedom, all dignity and pride were thrown out the window by Victoria at this time.
She was truly fed up with living day by day as if they were years here.
"Anything at all?"
David seemed somewhat interested, his gaze fixed on her face which still retained its charm, then slowly sweeping down her neck, collarbone, and further...
"Anything at all, as long as Director David is willing..."
To cater to David, Victoria not only thrust her chest forward but even considered pulling down her neckline for his enjoyment.
However, she was interrupted by David, "That’s enough. The crime you committed is no trivial matter; a pardon is out of the question. But I can assure you, after you’ve served ten years here, I will apply for your parole, that’s it!"

Victoria’s face soured as she continued to bargain, "Ten years is too long, Director David. Three years. I should have suffered enough after three years. How about it? I’m begging you!"
"I said ten years, and that means ten years. If you’re unwilling, I can find someone else in your family to cooperate, perhaps they’ll be more willing!"
David said as he started to stand up.
However, he was interrupted by Victoria’s anxious words, "I’m willing, I’m indeed willing, Director David. Ten years, just let me be paroled after ten years!"
Although ten years was indeed not short.
But once she got out, she would only be halfway through her life.
If she were unwilling, she’d spend her whole life dying in this prison.
Victoria wasn’t foolish; of course, she would make a choice.
David nodded satisfactorily and said nothing more, promptly leaving the visitation room.
