Chapter 85: Chapter 8: Reasons for Leaning Towards the White Robe Society

"I feel like I’m walking to a brothel with you, Stephen," in the night, Tommy and Stephen leaned against a lamppost on Stanford’s Greek Row, looking like two idle young drunkards, each holding a can of Miss Pinky energy drink.

Actually, this stuff was a genuine alcoholic product, with main ingredients like caffeine, taurine, guarana, and wormwood alcohol. It was packaged in pink, thus jokingly referred to as Miss Pinky, and minors and college students could buy this so-called energy drink in supermarkets without any restrictions.

As for whether it was legal to have alcohol and caffeine in energy drinks, it depended on who the owner of the product was, Morrison-Kangsheng Brewing Company, the largest liquor producer in the United States and Canada.

Let me put it this way, ever since this drink was launched in the ’80s, there had been parental complaints that their children had been led into alcoholism by it, but now, three years later, the product was still being sold without any impact, largely because Morrison-Kangsheng had hired a large number of former government officials to serve on the boards of its countless subsidiaries and had employed numerous lobbying firms for public relations.

Stanford University had rules against drinking alcohol in public places, but there was no rule against drinking energy drinks, so many college students who couldn’t get beer and wanted to walk down the street drinking turned to Miss Pinky. Although it was low in alcohol content, it still made them look more adult than if they were holding a can of juice.

"That’s our brothel," Stephen pointed at a two-story building not far away with the letters ZDB on it, featuring Roman-style columns, and said with a laugh, "ZDB, everyone’s used to calling it the Betty Society, Stanford’s best sorority, our VSA’s sister organization. The selection process for joining is much more complex than for us boys, height, hair color, eye color, ancestry, dress sense, sexual experience, family background... Unless it’s the naturally ugly daughters of a few government officials, the rest are all qualified to compete in Miss Universe, every one of them looking noble on the outside and libertine at heart—in fact, it’s said that they share tips at their internal meetings, you know, those kinds of tips."

Tommy Hawk felt quite envious inside when Stephen said this; such traditional member selection and the sororities that nurtured bedmates for the fraternities were a rare sight in 2022.

Although sororities still existed in 2022, they adapted to the times more than the fraternities that rarely changed their admission standards; starting with a diversity of aesthetics, then the glorification of ugliness. Of course, it could also have been because Tommy’s Asian fraternity was only average in the school, and the sororities they socialized with were just so-so. But most sororities would hardly screen newcomers by the standards Stephen was describing, or they’d get complaints from freshmen to the university, and a few big labels might shut down the sororities for good.

"As for the White Robe Society’s social networking BDP, known as the Blonde Society, their screening conditions are a lot worse than the Betty Society; it can only be considered the sorority with the most blondes at Stanford," Stephen added with a laugh upon seeing the eagerness in Tommy’s eyes as he gazed at the Betty Society house.

Tommy looked away and turned to Stephen with a smile, saying, "Actually, I’ve organized a freshman party to attract the attention of the Phoenix Society or the White Robe Society. These two fraternities were what I wanted to join before I reported, but now that I’ve completed my reporting and learned a bit more, I’m now more inclined towards the White Robe Society."

"Why? Do you actually want to put on the White Robe Society’s KKK robe? Brother, you will lose the friendship of Prime Minister Madoff and all the black people in Saint Vincent. Those jerks don’t understand treating black friends with equality," Stephen said with a look of disbelief upon hearing Tommy’s plans. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

In his opinion, Tommy Hawk would undoubtedly join the VSA with him for two reasons: firstly, because of their friendship and secondly, because the VSA was more enlightened and gentlemanly. Meanwhile, the White Robe Society morons almost wanted to carve "I am white" into their faces, and those jerks glorified the executioners who invaded Vietnam, upheld the Vietnamese imperial regime, and obstructed the democratization of Vietnam as heroes, soliciting donations for those blood-stained war criminals every year.

Tommy bowed his head, seemingly pondering how to explain it to his good friend.

But it was a difficult question, as he could not tell Stephen that he came from 2022 and that he had found a billionaire named Ross Perot in the alumni directory of the White Robe Society.

In a way, Perot was a business idol that Tommy greatly admired; in his previous life, he had even read the guy’s autobiography. Whether in business or in politics, Ross Perot had made a sensational impact.

In politics, Perot had competed alongside Bush and Clinton for the position of President of the United States in 1992. Despite being surrounded and attacked by the Democratic and Republican parties, he rose unexpectedly and won 18.9% of the vote, becoming since the founding of America, the independent candidate with the highest-ever vote ratio. Even though he failed the election, from that day until his death, Ross Perot was always a coveted ally for both the Republican and Democratic parties.

As for business, he was an IT prodigy. After retiring from the navy in 1957, he joined IBM, and within a year, he became the West Coast sales champion for IBM, completing the company’s annual personal sales target in just two weeks, prompting IBM headquarters to suspect an error in the sales data filed by the West Coast branch.
