America 1982-Chapter 644 - 149: New Life
The entire United States, or rather the whole computer industry around the world, was sickened by Tommy Hawk; this bastard turned the official reunification of East and West Germany, a monumental moment of the century, into an advertising spectacle akin to the Super Bowl. Compaq laptops often appeared in the live broadcast of VOX News, alongside laptops equipped with AmigaOS.
It was obvious to everyone that this jerk was advertising, but you could only curse AmigaOS for being disgusting without being able to directly pinpoint that it was an advertisement, because that would constitute defamation.
As the Berlin Wall was officially dismantled and German citizens poured into West Germany en masse, without West German marks, West German legal identities, or telephones; after decades of separation by the East German wall, many lost contact with relatives in West Germany or other places. Where should the children go to continue their education? Where should the elderly go to get their usual medications? How could all of this be resolved?
The American Peace Corps, well-established in West Germany for decades, was devoted to providing services for you.
Although many countries define the American Peace Corps, an independent volunteer organization, as a U.S. spy agency, and the Peace Corps doesn’t deny providing the American Federal Government with some information about the countries they are placed in, it has to be said that, even if everything was for intelligence or cultural infiltration, their cover was done exceedingly well.
The American Peace Corps began official operations in 1961; Sargent Schlaefer was the initiator and the first person in charge. Its initial target was actually Africa, heavily influenced by France. The hope was to deploy a large number of absolutely loyal, fresh college graduates to various African nations to do volunteer work such as teaching English at local schools or engaging in medical, religious, and cultural activities, gradually influencing the nationals of those countries through culture and language.
The first cohort recruited seven thousand pure and true exceptional American college graduates. Sargent had hoped that at least half of the first group of volunteers would be black, thinking that they might integrate more easily into the predominantly black African nations. However, at that time, the status of black people in America was low, and there were few black college graduates. After struggling to find a few black college graduates, as soon as they heard they were to go to Africa to help their ancestors, they unequivocally refused Sargent’s proposal.
In the end, almost all of the seven thousand were white, of whom 40% had been brainwashed with the desire to go teach and aid the impoverished—innocent American Joan of Arcs misled by Schlaefer and Kennedy to Africa. Within three years, there were more than two thousand XX incidents involving nearly three thousand female volunteers on African soil.
The most outrageous incident involved an American Peace Corps volunteer who was helping another woman give birth; while the baby was not yet delivered and the mother’s water had just broken, the American volunteer was assaulted by all the male members of the black man’s family...
Even though such incidents happened repeatedly, the two American parties remarkably reached a consensus and firmly promoted this Peace Corps volunteer program globally for many years. It expanded from Africa to South America, Asia, Europe, and even in the past few years, it had penetrated some wavering nations of the Soviet Union.
Female relatives of several American Presidents were part of the Peace Corps, signifying the importance and interest shown towards these volunteers. Now, the American Peace Corps has deployed over one hundred thousand American "volunteers" to over fifty countries they deem in need of help.
These volunteers are not allowed to profit from local enterprises; their food, lodging, and basic expenses are all funded through special appropriations from the United States Congress to the Peace Corps, to convince those countries that Americans are genuinely helping them without seeking anything in return.
Most volunteers truly believed they were engaged in selfless and noble work, teaching the locals English, imparting more advanced agricultural knowledge, and even treating locals for free, much like monks in religious asceticism.
And there were extraordinary geniuses among them. A few years ago, after meticulous investigation, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration discovered the Colombian drug lord they had been tracking was merely a puppet; the real mastermind controlling the network was a thirty-something male American Peace Corps volunteer. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
After graduating from college and joining the Peace Corps, he was sent to Colombia to teach the locals agricultural knowledge. Starting from scratch, he used the meager funds from the Peace Corps to buy cheap weapons for the villagers, leading them to drive away another group that was exploiting them. He then helped the villagers gain control and prosper, teaching them how to grow coca efficiently with fertilizers and how to process the leaves into cocaine. He ensured Americans enjoyed higher-purity cocaine while also improving the lives of the Colombian villagers—it was a win-win situation.
This American, who applied to extend his stay and continue shining in the Peace Corps for many years, adhered to the Corps’ rules and never took a cent from the village earnings from drugs. He still lived on the modest funds from the Peace Corps, in a wooden hut he built with the villagers, drove around in a beat-up pickup truck, still gave English lessons to the children regularly, spread the faith of Jesus Christ, and during occasional holidays back home, he would take discount flights and bring back a load of second-hand clothes donated by church members for the poor—incorruptible, almost saint-like.
Respected as a godfather by thousands of villagers, there was even news of a young man scolded by his father for insulting him and was bound and taken to church to be shot in front of the godfather—a testament to his prestige in the community.
