America 1982-Chapter 518 - 100: Odelia’s Life Plan_3
Odelia, an American social activist who graduated from law school and has been doing philanthropy in Africa for many years, released a report to the United Nations Women’s Protection Association. Using the United Nations’ name, she then took the lead in fundraising. With the funds raised, she collaborated with some well-known legal scholars, judges, and lawyers to compile books on the litigation procedures of various African countries. These books were distributed free of charge in those countries, making local women and children no longer feel that the law was too distant from them.
"After hearing this, how do you feel? Do I understand you, or does that bastard Jim understand you better?" Tommy asked Odelia with a smile.
Odelia looked intently at Tommy for a long time before she hugged him and gently leaned her head against his chest. "Tommy, your mother must have been a real angel to have raised you to be the person you are now. How can you be so kind, so gentle yet so resolutely stand up to the sufferings of this world and strive to change it?"
That was the Tommy she knew, he had never changed. In high school, he led a group of kids to help Saint Vincent reclaim their funds. In college, he led his peers to break the expensive technological shackles for many poor Americans, giving them a chance to change their destiny.
Now, he looked at her with a smile on his face, gently yet powerfully telling her that she should change the dire fates of women and children on the distant African continent, preventing them from being treated as commodities and sold by their families.
"Maybe, there is no suffering in the world, and it has always been beautiful," Tommy said with a smile. "So, you think my suggestion isn’t bad?"
"Of course, of course," Odelia said earnestly.
Tommy knew Odelia could not refuse his suggestion. She was a kind woman who had witnessed firsthand many problems faced by women and children in African countries. Going to fix toilets, delivering water, donating medicine—others could do those things, but Odelia, with a background in law, would not refuse an opportunity to use her expertise to help more people, as it would bring her a greater sense of achievement.
And Tommy didn’t care whether he was seen as an angel or not, nor did he care how hard life in Africa was. He had already made a life plan for the wife he chose when he succeeded in pursuing Odelia.
First, through KeyBank, engage in many charitable projects overseas, interact with many United Nations organizations, gain recognition, and win some awards to achieve the status of an international social activist. Now, this step was already completed. Unless history changed unexpectedly, if Bill were elected, she would receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom to commend her contributions as an international social activist over the years.
Next would be what Tommy was now telling her: transitioning from a social activist to a legal expert, working with other famous legal scholars in the name of the United Nations to promote the development of the legal processes in some African countries. Through academic research, she could land a teaching position at a law school in the United State America or another country and serve as a legal advisor for women’s organizations, getting involved in some landmark cases. This step would also take a few years, and with her previous experience as a social activist and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, combined with assorted international awards, the Nobel Peace Prize might well be within reach.
Finally, towards the end of Bill’s presidency, with a nomination from the President, she would become a deputy judge at a circuit court with a vacancy due to a retired judge, and then slowly accumulate seniority in the circuit court. If a position opened up in the Supreme Court after ten to twenty years, Tommy would use his own television media presence and the inevitable online resources to strike a deal with the incumbent president, securing the President’s nomination for Odelia to ascend to the throne of the Supreme Court.
This was the life plan Tommy had made for Odelia. He didn’t need her to be clear about her path in life; he just needed Odelia to listen to him and do the right thing.
