America 1982-Chapter 398 - 49: Martin’s Fruit_2
"Niggers, I’m a big shot, you understand? Even though I’m just a nobody on the East Coast, out on the West Coast, I’m the real NiggerBoss~ Y’all seen that show on BT TV, right? That’s me."
"For real, Man?" A black guy exaggeratedly bulged his eyes, "I tune in every week on time for that show, and I even got a haircut just like the lead character. That’s you? Bro, seriously speaking, I don’t quite believe it, you got a woman as fine as Vanessa Williams?"
"I used to stay with Vanessa every night in a villa! Los Angeles, Beverly Hills! I even know what color robe she wears, Nigger!" Martin heard the other’s disbelief and immediately answered defiantly:
"But you know, I ain’t into that type of woman. Sure, she’s pretty, but she ain’t my type; I prefer these kinds."
With that said, Martin hugged the two women beside him forcefully.
"Martin, everyone likes to brag, but you’re taking it a bit too far. I..." Cousin Tim chimed in skeptically, questioning his long-lost cousin’s boasting, as Martin’s bragging had left the friends he brought along unsure how to respond.
Living with Vanessa Williams? Vanessa’s debut album last year shot straight to platinum and scored three Grammy nominations, and thanks to her role in the hit series "NiggerBoss," she’d become the dream girl of most black men in America.
No matter how you looked at it, Vanessa, an educated woman, was unlikely to shack up with the bullshitting Nigger in front of them.
Seeing even his cousin doubted his bravado, Martin immediately grabbed his cell phone: "I’ll call her right now, I got her number! Let her tell you herself if Martin has lived with her in a villa, had a damn good time!"
He indeed had Vanessa’s phone number, but they didn’t keep in touch much. Though they got along well while living together, after Susan took charge of Trailblazer Brokerage Company, Vanessa was moved out of the Beverly Hills villa by Susan to a small bachelor apartment near Hollywood, and they hadn’t seen each other since, except for the occasional phone call to say hello.
Seeing that Martin’s expression didn’t look like he was talking drunk, all the black folks present crowded around, eager to verify whether Martin was a big shot who could directly contact black actress Vanessa.
Martin kept a poker face, but inside he was in a fierce struggle—if Vanessa told Tommy about him harassing her, Mr. Page would definitely have his hide. However, to establish his big shot image in front of these Niggers in New York, Martin thought a little shock was worth it.
So, he finally dialed Vanessa’s number.
Soon, the call connected, and before Vanessa could speak, Martin quickly said: "Vanessa, this is Martin Hart, we used to live together at Beverly Hills! Remember?"
"Martin!" To Martin’s surprise, there was no hesitation from Vanessa; instead, there was some excitement: "Is that you? Spike~ Spike~ It’s Martin! The Martin who’s with Tommy! When we were shooting ’NiggerBoss’ in Compton, Los Angeles, Martin helped the director with troubles like these! Maybe we can ask him how to deal with it!"
Then, before Martin could talk again, a man’s voice came from the other end of the line: "Mr. Hart? This is Spike Lee."
"Whoa~" All the black people in the room let out a gasp of astonishment.
Martin was indeed a big shot; on the phone, it wasn’t just Vanessa Williams, but also the young black director Spike Lee! Most black people there had seen his film "Sure Shot," but couldn’t appreciate its artistry; almost all of them watched it like it was a dirty movie, given it told the story of a black girl dating three men at the same time, with plenty of bold scenes.
"You two slept together? Spike! You got a death wish? You should know who’s woman Vanessa is!" Martin’s first reaction was to jump up scared by the man’s voice on the phone, grabbing it to ask.
To the onlookers, Martin’s discontent seemed to come from Vanessa spending time with Spike at ten o’clock at night, which only further implied something special between Martin and Vanessa.
But Martin knew he was worried that Spike slept with Vanessa! When he stayed in the villa, Sophia had specifically warned him not to hit on Vanessa! Anyone could guess with their ass that it wasn’t for her own sake, obviously, the boss Tommy had his eye on Vanessa, and now, Spike got involved with her?
"What are you talking about, Martin? We’re here reshooting some scenes for my new movie, Vanessa plays a part in it. Right now, we’re on the streets of New York, surrounded by over twenty colleagues from the crew, not just her and me alone in a hotel room," Spike explained.
Martin asked excitedly, "Y’all in New York too? Great, I’m in New York as well. So, when do you finish? I’ll have my driver pick you up and take you to the Cotton Club, have a couple of drinks together."
"You’re in New York?" Surprise sounded from Spike and Vanessa on the other end of the line.
"Is it so strange that I’m in New York?"
