Chapter 390: Chapter 44: Again?_3

This amounted to an open admission that it had a problem with the timeliness of its news and needed to use the subscription model to obtain the rights to rebroadcast VOX’s news!

With the subscription from the Associated Press, along with commentary from international affairs experts, Wolfe felt there was no pressure in seeing subscriber numbers grow by tens of millions; he even couldn’t help but pray internally that Libya would immediately declare war on the United State America, so the reporters on the Kennedy could bring back more exclusive news.

Although VOX News Network had just started broadcasting and the subscriptions were somewhat dismal, its hardware was extremely superior, having leased three satellite lines to ensure that global subscribers could watch in real time. That was why Adrian Hiren agreed to appear on the guest panel; previously, he had mostly written articles for the Associated Press and had his analyses of the world’s international situation published in major newspapers, but text is never as vivid and persuasive as video and images. Therefore, when he learned that VOX allowed experts from the Center for Peace Studies to call in for commentary, Adrian Hiren realized immediately that this was an opportunity to showcase his skills and eloquence to the world paying attention to Libya’s situation.

He decided to attend the program and make his comments without having agreed on an appearance fee.

"You guys should get a more professional host," he said calmly while sitting in the makeup chair, eyes fixed on the television screen and letting the stylist work on him, he spoke to Tucker, who was beside him: "And some new editors, too. The questions they ask are like child’s play."

VOX’s young news anchor, Merriman Thomas, hadn’t realized that he was being suggested for dismissal by the imminent guest, and was preparing to welcome the guest on stage as instructed by the director: "OK, thanks to our reporter, now, let’s return to the studio. Regarding today’s breaking news in the Mediterranean, we’ve invited Professor Adrian Hiren, a Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Foreign Policy Research Institute, and an international relations expert, to elaborate for us why this conflict has occurred and whether there will be another foreign war waiting for the United State America."

With silver-white hair, Adrian walked into the studio and sat on the guest seat. Seeing the camera pointing at him, he didn’t exchange pleasantries. His eyes calmly looked into the camera and he began:

"Regarding the issue Libya has raised about United State America fighter jets illegally entering the country’s territorial seas and airspace, I’d like to clarify: In fact, the United States Government has never recognized the Gulf of Sidra as Libya’s territorial waters. This conflict was simply a United State America warship undertaking normal navigation in international waters when it encountered two Libyan fighter jets that showed hostility and subsequently had to engage in retaliatory action."

The young host was so shocked by Adrian’s forthright statement that he almost froze on the spot!

Now, apart from announcing the shooting down of two Mig-23s that attempted to attack its reconnaissance planes, the United States Government had issued no other official statements. Yet, here was this professor, directly expressing an attitude to the global audience ahead of the government?

Fortunately, the director immediately prompted him, and just as the host was about to follow the teleprompter’s cue to start asking related questions, the director’s face brightened and he immediately provided the host with the latest news via microphone.

Just as Adrian was wondering if the host had forgotten his lines, the host’s face lit up with joy as he began: "This is the VOX newsroom. We’ve just received word that our reporter, hired locally in North Africa, is risking arrest by the Libyan government for espionage charges and is phoning into the studio. He should be able to bring us more accurate information about this conflict."

Wolfe wanted to burst out of the headquarters in excitement and shout in the streets!

If newspapers around the world now relied on the Associated Press for their news stories, then in the future, all television stations around the world would choose VOX for the latest televised news!

"Wolfe, Tommy asked you to give him a call after you’re finished," said the secretary as she approached Wolfe, who was struggling to contain his excitement.

Wolfe accepted the mobile phone offered by his secretary and asked her: "Tommy? What’s happened? Isn’t he in Los Angeles with his girlfriend?"

The secretary shook her head, indicating she didn’t know, but she said with a smile: "Tommy said he wants to ask you if you are ready to be choked by your dreams once more."

"Once more?" Wolfe suddenly stood stunned.
