America 1982-Chapter 233 - 80: Time to Start Work
On Palm Drive at Stanford University, Tommy gaped at Dennis and Pam in front of him.
The reason for his shock wasn’t that the two had gotten plastic surgery or grown exaggerated boobs, but because these two idiots had suddenly shown up in California’s Stanford, dressed like they were on vacation:
"What the hell are you doing here? I mean, couldn’t you have called me before coming, instead of telling me only after you’ve already set foot on Stanford’s land?"
Dennis took off his sunglasses and his ridiculously wide-brimmed straw hat, looking over at the buildings of Stanford University: "Bro, you promised to treat me to some Mexican girls in California—did you forget?"
"That’s right, I came to California to check out some Mexican girls," Pam added from the side.
Tommy opened his mouth, glanced at the two of them, then back at the sacred university campus behind him: "But fuck, shouldn’t you two be at Rhode Island Community College right now? There’s no vacation going on..."
"Has the California sun radiated your brains, messing them up? How else could you ask such a retarded question, Tommy?" Dennis put his straw hat back on and looked at Tommy worriedly, genuinely shocked that his best bud could ask something so dumb.
Pam also chimed in with confusion, "Skipping college classes requires checking the public holiday calendar?"
Tommy snapped back to his senses: "No, of course not. It’s just that I haven’t skipped class with you two for so long, I forgot how to do it. So, you crossed the entire United States just for some Mexican girls?"
"No, I wouldn’t, I can’t betray Carly, I’m just here to look around, not to get involved," Pam said, shaking his head.
Tommy eyed Pam with suspicion: "So, Carly’s broken you? For the past year, you’ve been nothing but plastered to her side for the most basic life-sustaining activities?"
"That joke’s not funny, Tommy. There’s nothing wrong with my golf club," Pam said seriously to Tommy, but then he frowned and looked down:
"It’s just that my club now has some special markings, and if I... if I engage in some sports here in California, Carly will find out when I get back."
Tommy nodded in understanding: "Bro, your couple games with Carly sound kind of brain-burning."
"So where are the Mexican girls?" Dennis asked Tommy.
Tommy thought for a moment and walked over to the nearby public phone booth, gesturing for Dennis to hand him some coins. After throwing them in, he dialed the number of his mansion. Soon, the butler on the other end picked up:
"Hello, this is the residence of Mr. Tommy Hawk, what can I do for you?"
"Dorothy, it’s me, Tommy," Tommy spoke into the receiver.
"Mr. Hawk, what can I do for you?"
"Um... has Jason left?"
"No, Mr. White is currently in the front yard holding a telephone meeting. Do you need me to get him for you?"
"Great, tell his driver to come to the school now to pick up my two friends who have come to visit me specially. Then tell Jason the names Dennis and Pam; he’ll know who they are. He hasn’t met them, but he’s heard of their notoriety. Have him entertain them for me until I can get back after class."
"Okay, Mr. Hawk."
"Thanks, Dorothy."
After hanging up, Tommy thought for a second and then dialed Stephen Binns’s pager number to leave a message: "Mr. Wealthy, Dennis and Pam, the two idiots, have come to Stanford. They’re in line to f**k you up, so remember to get in touch with me after class and after you’ve switched into clean underwear. I’ll arrange the hosting. That’s it."
Once everything was settled, Tommy then looked at Dennis and Pam: "A flashy red Lincoln Continental Mark VI will be here soon to take you to my place. After school, Mr. Wealthy and I will rush over."
"You mean you’re still going to class? Your best bros come all the way to see you, and instead of showing them California girls, you’re leaving them to attend class?" Dennis said, dissatisfied,
"Did college turn you into an idiot?"
Tommy took out a cigarette and offered it to them: "There’s a guy named Jason White at my place with the contacts for all the top entertainment agencies in California. Unlike me, I only know a few cheap whores who’ve switched professions."
"Good, then you can go," Dennis said crisply as he grabbed the cigarette from Tommy, "If you’re busy with studies, it’s okay if you don’t show up. Just have that Jason White guy hang out with us."
"See you tonight." Tommy walked away a few steps before coming back, thoughtfully eyeing Dennis. Dennis felt uncomfortable under the scrutiny: "What’s up? Aren’t you going to class?"
Tommy drew out a lighter and lit the cigarette in his mouth: "How long are you and Pam planning to stay in California?"
"It mainly depends on how many girls the California entertainment companies have and how much cash you have," Dennis replied honestly.
Tommy’s face instantly brightened, and he lit Dennis’s cigarette himself: "Good, enjoy yourselves a little longer. The bill’s on me. By the way, what courses are you taking at the community college?"
"HVAC engineering," Pam responded.
Dennis took a while to remember what he was studying: "I’m taking... Environmental Resource Management and Pollution Control."
