Chapter 1109: 379, The Gunshots in Washington
Edgar Hoover sat in his car leaving Donnie’s Block Manor.
Sitting in the car, Edgar Hoover’s face was as calm as water, he was recalling the previous conversation with Donnie!
"What did the other person really mean?"
Edgar Hoover considered himself capable of seeing through many people’s hearts, which was one of the crucial dependencies that allowed him to achieve his current success, but at this moment, he could not fathom Donnie’s true thoughts.
During their previous conversation, Edgar Hoover had adopted a very humble stance, and Donnie also showed an attitude of anger at his own incompetence yet not giving up.
But all of this made Edgar Hoover suspicious, could Donnie Block be so easily persuaded by him?
Unable to determine Donnie Block’s real intentions, Edgar Hoover had no way of knowing which direction to take next!
"Looks like I need some help!"
Edgar Hoover understood that under the current circumstances of suspecting everyone within the FBI, he could no longer have FBI people do things for him!
But if Edgar Hoover only had the FBI’s power, he wouldn’t have achieved such success.
Having figured out all this, Edgar Hoover drove to an underground bar in the Washington metropolitan area.
When Edgar Hoover sat at the bar, the bartender’s face changed slightly, which caused the bartender to forget to pour drinks for the other guests. However, under the urging of the guests, the bartender quickly came around and poured drinks for the other guests before leaving the bar.
Edgar Hoover followed the bartender into the kitchen of the underground bar, passed through the kitchen, and opened the storeroom door. The inside instantly opened up, revealing a luxuriously decorated casino where many well-dressed people were throwing money around.
After passing through the crowd again, Edgar Hoover followed the bartender to the office there.
In the office sat a middle-aged man in a three-piece suit smoking a cigar.
When the man saw Edgar Hoover, he too showed the same surprised expression as the bartender.
The bartender left, closing the door behind him.
"Mr. Hoover, what brings you here?" The man invited Edgar Hoover to sit on the sofa.
Edgar Hoover said calmly, "Trey Leman, I have something to ask you this time!"
Trey Leman’s heart trembled, understanding that if it weren’t for something huge, Edgar Hoover wouldn’t come to him personally.
Yet at the same time, precisely because it was something huge, he couldn’t afford any slack, as he knew Edgar Hoover too well. If he slacked off, everything he currently had would certainly be gone!
"Mr. Hoover, whatever instructs you have, just call me. Why come here personally?"
Trey Leman poured a glass of whiskey for Edgar Hoover.
Edgar Hoover spoke in a deep voice, "Two things. First, I need your people to keep an eye on someone and make sure he doesn’t find out. I want to know everything he’s been doing in Washington lately, where he’s been, who he’s met, everything.
Second, I need you to find me two gunmen, ready at any time!"
Trey Leman wasn’t doing this sort of thing for Edgar Hoover the first time. As the director of the FBI, there were always some dirty tasks he didn’t want to handle himself or that weren’t suitable for the FBI to handle, so Edgar Hoover needed someone who could do these things for him.
Trey Leman was such a person!
Only such matters had always been communicated to him through others before; this was the first time Edgar Hoover came in person!
"No problem!" Trey Leman said, "So Mr. Hoover, who has offended you this time?"
Edgar Hoover took a photo out of his jacket pocket and handed it to Trey Leman, "The man in the photo, with his address and the license plate numbers of several cars he uses written on the back!"
Upon seeing the photo, Trey Leman stood up in surprise.
"Donnie Block of Atlantic City?"
Edgar Hoover glanced sideways at Trey Leman, his voice like a grim reaper emerging from hell: "Afraid?"
For someone like Edgar Hoover, he never placed all his chips on a single person. Even during his honeymoon period of cooperation with Donnie, he would cultivate his own power. When Edgar Hoover first took an interest in Trey Leman, the other was just a small figure being investigated by the FBI for brewing liquor privately.
But Edgar Hoover saw the ruthlessness in him, and finally, he let him go, granting him some privileges which allowed Trey Leman to become one of the well-known big shots in Washington in a short time.
It could be said that without Edgar Hoover, there would be no Trey Leman of today!
"No, I just didn’t expect it to be such a big figure!" Even though Trey Leman was one of the bosses of Washington’s underground society, at the end of the day, he was just a thug!
This kind of person couldn’t possibly touch upon the information level involving Donnie Block and everything Edgar Hoover had been through lately.
So Trey Leman was just shocked, but not overly afraid!
"Some of Block’s actions have already endangered the federal safety of the United States, but you also said he’s a big figure, so I can’t use FBI power to investigate him. I’m giving you this opportunity to credit the federal government!"
Edgar Hoover also knew Trey Leman couldn’t know too much of the situation, so he gave this reason. He didn’t trust anyone, so Edgar Hoover was sure if Trey Leman knew the truth, then Trey Leman would very likely become someone who would betray him!
