Chapter 76 - This Is Insane

Darian could feel the connection between those two getting way stronger. Instantly, they were both drawn toward where he and Niara were.

The battlefield was completely empty, surrounded by fallen Risen bodies. Then, a wave of intense white light and another that looked like a massive black cloak appeared from opposite sides.

Their 'physical' bodies vanished — not even the marks where their souls had been were left. They'd turned into shapeless masses of white and black power. Right in the middle, a pulsing core was radiating, influencing everything around it with its energy.

They both approached Darian at the same time. And he, in turn, started thinking hard about everything his master had told him. She had created the Judgment Marks to give souls a second chance — without needing to reincarnate them the usual way.

But if she used that technique, those souls would be shaped by her own power and would already be born with top-tier marks. In the end, Meru wasn't sure how a mark would evolve if it started from the bottom. So yeah — Darian was on his own.

Her guess was that, because they were linked to Darian, his influence could help shape how they evolved. And once they hit a certain threshold, their marks would need to be rebuilt to fit the new level of power. Like turning the page and starting fresh — which would give Darian the chance to add something to them.

Niara's eyes widened, watching those masses of light and darkness floating around Darian.

He took a deep breath, then activated all the power in his marks to try shaping them again.

'Hmm... the new mark needs more stability to handle the power... and that might give them new abilities... but... how the hell am I supposed to know what to do?!'

His master hadn't explained everything in detail, and obviously, he was still a rookie in almost everything. But at the same time...

'She yelled at me so many times, telling me to use my brain and stop relying on others to explain every damn thing... maybe that's the hint?' He thought, breathing deep. '...What do I have on hand?'

It had to be something obvious, something he'd missed — like always. Thinking it over, he could feel Niara's heartbeat speeding up — he was, after all, physically close to her heart.

'I'm a Spiritual Guardian! Most of their power comes from the rings, and the rings are something created by the will of the heavens to stabilize the Awakened.'

That had to be it. Darian was sure. Since he was inexperienced, the simplest thing he could do was copy the ring he had, to house their power inside the mark. But he only had one ring — and honestly, he didn't trust himself to pull that off properly.

'Rhea, I need your help,' he said, turning to the light mass. Thankfully, she was right there beside him. She'd already had three rings and knew how to use them well.

Darian nodded and started shaping the light. He used what he remembered from his own ring. It took a few minutes, but yeah — the result was clearly incomplete. One glance, and he could already tell a bunch of stuff was missing.

'The energy flow in the rings is split into three layers. But both layers cut off halfway, because the ring has to connect to the next one and then the next. They're all fully linked...' Rhea started explaining everything, super technically, with all the details she could recall.

It was like explaining how the inside of a piece of tech worked. Did Darian fully get it? Hell no. But she helped him adjust everything and run a few tests.

Maybe it wasn't exactly the same, but they worked together to make something close.

An hour later...

All the white light started pulling inward, like it was being sucked down a drain. What was left was a tiny white mark, glowing like a star. Niara and Darian focused on it and could feel a small ring flowing steadily around the white power inside the mark.

'We did it... it used to be a Light Spirit. Now its evolution's gonna be: Light Guardian.' He named it simply and happily, then turned to the dark mass.

This time, it went way faster. In twenty minutes, he repeated exactly what he'd done with Rhea. Soon enough, the Dark Spirit evolved — and he called it the Dark Guardian.

Everything faded around them, leaving just two small, opposite glowing marks.

Darian let out a deep breath. Then, he sent both his white and black power toward them. Both absorbed the energy and began forming their "physical" bodies again.

A few moments later, they were fully materialized. Rhea's appearance hadn't changed — she liked the way she looked and still felt human that way.

But Ametheos didn't look like a giant shadow anymore. He no longer had vague humanoid features and glowing violet eyes. His physical form was clearer now — definitely humanoid, with two horns on his head.

A violet aura surrounded him, giving him a mysterious and much more sinister vibe. You couldn't see much detail, like his face. He had no memories and no idea what he was supposed to look like, so he remained this dark, undefined figure.

Still, just looking at them, you could already tell their power had multiplied several times over.

Now, their marks held an imitation of a ring, and they had their own energy. Darian was pumped — he didn't need to give them everything anymore. They could use their own power and even regenerate slowly, just like a real ring would.

At the same time...

Rhea closed her eyes and took a deep breath...

After a minute, she opened her wings — and her eyes.

Gently, the air around her started to shift.

In no time, tiny white particles — like glowing dust — appeared around her, floating and wrapping her in an aura that looked way more divine and sacred.

She looked at Darian with a big smile: "I can use it... no... it feels different. I don't have the ring's power anymore, just the white power. And now the mark works like a law, but it's way better..."

She stopped mid-sentence, eyes wide — then suddenly beat her wings harder. The whole area around them was covered in white particles — like the air itself had turned into light.

Rhea looked completely stunned. Turning to Darian, she added:

"Holy shit... I'm sure of it. I can use my old blessing again. But it's like an altered version — with way different powers... and stronger... so much stronger..."

Darian forgot to breathe. This was only her first evolution, and she already had her old abilities back — and upgraded.

"This is insane... before, it was called Blessing of the Heroine of the Heavens. I'm renaming it to Guardian Goddess of the Heavens."

Rhea kept speaking, while testing and playing with her power. She felt like she could control the air across the entire planet — if she were willing to burn it all down. That alone shocked her.

Before, her blessing depended on the laws in the area — it could be stronger or weaker based on how many or how powerful the other laws were. She was part of the Mystic class — she could use air in tons of ways: moving fast and fighting up close like a martial artist, or at range like a mage.

Depending on the environment, she could even hold off an entire enemy army on her own like a tank, or use air to support her allies.

But now... it was like all of her max potential was just there, ready. The white power could control the air with zero resistance, no matter what laws were around.

"Back when I had three rings, I had more raw power and energy. But now, I feel way more possibilities. I probably have raw power on par with someone who has two rings... If the pattern stays the same, in my next evolution I might reach four rings' worth?" She kept thinking aloud, clearly excited.

Darian didn't have that answer. Right now, her mark was at what's called Level One of the laws — the Mortal Level. There were four levels: Mortal, Divine, Immortal, and Calamity.

If it followed that pattern, would she end up with the power of eight rings?

But Meru had told him that, at the highest level, they might even be able to take on a group of nine-ringed folks alone and win. So yeah — the power gain at each evolution clearly went beyond the expected pattern.

Darian turned to Ametheos. If Rhea could use her old blessing again... what did he gain?

He didn't have any memories of his past life — and he also wasn't a Spiritual Guardian with a blessing before.

"Hmm... physically, it seems like he kept more from his past life than he realizes. Maybe it's instinctual," Darian murmured, thinking. "Well, when he uses his inner power, whatever he gained should just come out naturally."

With that thought, he turned to Niara. The attack on the other galaxy had probably already started.

Time to go play with danger again.
