Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 198 The Black Tower
Emily ordered the butler to be summoned. When the old butler came into the room, he saw Dolly kneeling on the floor, and the food scattered about. The face of the old steward was suddenly shocked. He carefully asked Emily, "What happened? My lady."
Emily sat on the chair, she pretended to be angry and said, " I ordered this maid to finish her breakfast, but she dared to contradict me. I am going to punish her."
" How will you punish her?" asked the old steward.
" I heard that in the palace, the harshest punishment for a wrongdoer is to put them in the Black Tower, right?" Emily asked.
"Yes. " The old butler replied.
" Then put this woman in the Black Tower." Emily said. Emily said, " I’m going to make her suffer."
"Are you sure you want to do this?" The butler said cautiously, " Normally only the king has the authority to put a wrongdoer in the Black Tower."
" As the future queen, don’t I even have the authority to punish prisoners?" Emily threatened the old butler in a low voice, " If you don’t do as you’re told, I’ll tell the king that you’re disrespecting me. You don’t want to be punished by the king either, do you?"
The old butler instantly showed a look of panic as he immediately said, "I will now immediately order this maid to be put in the Black Tower."
" I will go too." Emily insisted, "I want to see this maid locked up in the Black Tower with my own eyes."
"Yes, my lady."
.......
Emily followed the old steward to the Black Tower. When the old steward stood before the two guards, they immediately became respectful, and it was evident that they knew the identity of the old steward.
The old butler said to the guards, "Open the door and put the maid in the black tower."
"Is this the king’s order? " one of the guards asked.
"It is the order of the future queen. " The old butler said solemnly, "The lady standing before you now is the future queen of our country. Her orders are equal to those of the king."
The two guards immediately did as they were told, and as one of them tugged Dolly into the Black Tower, Emily said, "I want to go in too."
"My lady. The Black Tower is dirty and dark. You are not fit to go in there. " The old butler advised.
"I said I would go in too. " Emily said with a strong attitude, "I want to see this woman suffer with my own eyes."
The old butler gave a helpless look as he signaled the guards to let Emily go in. " Wait here till I come. "Emily instructed the old butler, "You are not allowed to leave without my orders."
So the butler did as he was told.
After the guards put Dolly in a cell, Emily said to the guards, "Get out of here, I want to talk to her here."
"Yes. "The guard didn’t dare disobey Emily’s order, so he went out.
When the guard was gone, Emily gripped the bars of the cell door and whispered to Dolly, "Please be patient. I’ll have you released soon."
Dolly nodded, and her eyes showed her confidence in Emily.
Emily released her hand, and she moved slowly down the passage. Every time she passed a cell, she stopped and approached the cold bars to try to look inside. Some of the cells were so dark that she could see nothing, and Emily could only hold her breath and strain her ears to hear if there was any movement within; There was a faint light in some of the cells, and she could see people huddled together in the corners, most of them with dishevelled hair and vacant eyes, some of them even looking at her numbly, and then turning their heads away.
At last Emily reached the highest level of the Black Tower, where she saw a cell that looked like a birdcage. Emily slowly approached the huge cage, and through the gap between the iron posts of the cage she saw a white-haired woman chained.
Perhaps the white-haired woman had heard the footsteps, and she turned her head sharply to look at Emily. When the white-haired woman saw Emily’s face, the anticipation in her eyes changed in an instant to confusion, and then to anger.
The white-haired woman stood up from the ground as she glared angrily at Emily, "Emily, are you here to see my joke?"
Emily saw that the white-haired woman was chained at the waist, and that the other end of the chain was attached to the wall behind her. Knowing that the white-haired woman could not get near the cage, Emily ventured to approach her.
"Look, I don’t want to waste my time Tell me all you know about me. " Emily didn’t have much time, she had to make this quick." In exchange, I can find a way to get you out of this hellhole."
"You can really get me out of here? " There was a glimmer of delight in the white-haired woman’s eyes.
" Since I can get in here, I have a way I can get you out." Emily said in an affirmative tone, "Now, tell me everything you know about me. If you lie, you’re not getting out of here again."
" How can you know if I’m lying to you since you’ve lost your memory?" asked the white-haired woman back.
" I know your name is Haley, and I know you kidnapped me in the first place. " Emily said, "I’m not ignorant. Now, are you going to cooperate with me?"
"Oh, so you’re here to find lost memories." Haley smiled nervously, " I knew Elijah couldn’t fool you."
" Tell me everything you know. Come on." Emily urged.
"Okay, then I’ll tell you everything." Haley said.
Haley then tells Emily how she became Emily’s maid, how she kidnapped Emily, and all Haley knows about Emily’s trip north. Each detail is like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle, gradually piecing together Emily’s lost memories.
"So, I’m not even Elijah’s fiancee, am I?" Emily’s low voice was full of uncontrollable rage.
Haley laughed, "Of course you’re not his fiancee. You’re just the woman he stole."
So everything Elijah told her was a lie. Emily clutched the bars in her rage. He had lied to her!
"Emily, Elijah has a lot of secrets that you don’t know." Haley stepped forward and approached Emily, "Elijah is surrounded by a sorcerer named Grimm who specializes in black magic, and Elijah sacrificed me to the Dark Gods to get his hands on the power of darkness. See, Elijah is the reason I’m like this."
"The Dark Lord?" Emily had never heard that word before, "What’s a dark god?"
"Elijah killed a lot of people, and he threw those people into a pool of blood." Haley’s tone became eerie, her eyes betraying fear and disgust. "Elijah is the devil. You’d better leave him."
At that moment there was a sound of footsteps below the tower. Emily was instantly on her guard, her body instantly tense and her heart beating uncontrollably. She whispered to Haley, "Don’t tell anyone about what we just talked about."
Hayley threw back her head and laughed, a laugh full of despair and madness. Then she whispered and sang, "A demon kept a stolen princess in a cage made of gold. I am your prince, he told her. He picks a red rose for her every morning, and he tenderly tells her I love you."
Haley’s almost insane, sardonic laughter echoed through the tower, and each note was like a sharp sting in Emily’s heart. The complex emotions contained in that laugh were like a thousand unseen hands reaching out from the darkness to drag Emily into the depths of despair.
Emily felt that her breath was getting short, and that she could not remain in this depressing place for a second longer, so she left the tower as quickly as if she were fleeing.
Sardonic laughter seemed to follow Emily from the moment she stepped out of the cell door, and the sound made her step a little weak, and Haley’s words and the blood-curdling chant kept ringing in her head.
"Are you alright? My lady." The solicitous voice of the old steward drew Emily from her perplexed thoughts.
"I’m fine." Emily tried to make her voice sound smooth. After a moment, she said to the old butler, "Release the maid."
The old butler gave a puzzled look, but he did not disobey Emily’s orders. So the old butler ordered the guards to release Dolly.
The moment Dolly came out of the tower, Emily and Dolly looked at each other, and Emily looked at Dolly with trust in her eyes.
