Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 166 Will you die for me?
West, Palace
Haley is distraught that he has not summoned her since the time she fought with Elijah over the Dark Wizard.
Elijah had confined her to her room, and he had cut her off from the world. The door to the room was guarded, and Haley never saw any one but the maid who brought her food every day.
The closed door, like an impassable chasm, cut her off from the outside world. She tried to communicate with the guards, but they simply stood impassive and deaf to her pleas, and Haley wondered how much longer she would have to go on like this, feeling alone and helpless.
Haley stood by the window, looking at the dark night sky. The moon was enveloped in clouds, and not a ray of light could penetrate the dense masses to reach the earth. The stars seemed to be hidden in the infinite darkness, and the night sky was like a great black curtain, heavy and depressing.
Without the gentle caress of the moonlight, or the faint flickering of the stars, the world seemed to have fallen into an eerie silence.
Haley remembers seeing such a sight when she was a little girl and thought the moon was gone. But the old maid who looked after her told her that it was because the moon and stars had been swallowed up by the dark spectre, so that the moon was invisible.
" A night without the moon and stars is dangerous for werewolves." The old maid had warned her.
When Haley grew up, she stopped believing in old maids. She thought that the old maid’s words were meant to deceive the child. She was no longer the ignorant little girl she had been.
But she still could not understand why the moon and the stars disappeared into the night sky at the same time.
A slight push on the door brought Haley’s thoughts back to earth. She jerked her head around, her gaze fixed on the slowly opening door. As the door opens, a slender figure appears in the doorway; it was Elijah.
His long black hair fell in a waterfall, and glittered with a mysterious lustre in the faint light that came through the window. It was as if the long hair were part of the darkness of the night, and carried with it a deep and absorbing charm.
Elijah was followed by a maid pushing a wheelbarrow, from which she carefully carried the soup to the table, and when she had finished she departed in silence.
Elijah stood next to the table, he signaled Haley with his eyes, " Come here."
Haley was standing by the window, and she did not move her foot. Her eyes were fixed on Elijah.
There had been no room in her heart for any man but Elijah since the night when she had first made love to him as an adult. She had not hated him even when he had used her, even when he had chastised her.
Her love for him was passionate and humble.
"Haley." Elijah’s voice rang out again.
Haley took a deep breath as she slowly walked toward Elijah. When she reached the table, Elijah drew out her chair for her in a very gentlemanly way.
" The maid told me that you hadn’t eaten anything during the night. So I asked the cook to make you oxtail soup." Elijah put the lid on the hot soup, and he served Haley a bowl of it.
Elijah lifted the bowl, and he looked down and blew upon the hot air in it. His movements were gentle and slow, not daring to blow so hard as to spill the soup from the bowl. He then picked up a spoon and scooped up a ladleful of soup, tilting it slightly to get the correct temperature.
Haley is flattered by Elijah’s gesture; It was a rare thing for him to be so tender with her. Was it because he felt guilty about her?
Haley’s mind was full of questions, but for the moment she could not take her eyes off Elijah. His long hair hung slightly down, hiding half his face, but adding a mysterious charm. His eyes were intent and tender, as if she and the soup were the only things left in the world.
Elijah saw her delay in opening her mouth, so he asked, "Don’t you like oxtail soup?" His voice was low and soft, like a murmur in the dead of night.
"No." Haley shook her head gently, her voice trembling a little, her heart full of emotion. In honor of Elijah’s kindness, she opened her mouth and emptied the soup from her spoon. The warmth of the soup ran down her throat as if it were a warm stream to her heart.
Elijah continued to feed her, his movements as gentle and attentive as ever. After Haley had taken a few mouthfuls of soup in a row, she suddenly felt a wave of nausea. The nausea came upon her so suddenly that she was taken by surprise.
Her face grew pale for an instant, and her brow furrowed. She tried to restrain herself, not to worry Elijah, but the nausea grew.
"What’s wrong with you? " Elijah put down his bowl as he looked at Haley.
" I always get like this lately." Haley covered her mouth with her hand, " When I eat something I get sick to my stomach." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
She had never reacted like this before. She thought it was because she was sick, but doctors told her she was not. That’s why she’s been skipping meals lately. The greasy taste of the food sickened her.
" Maybe it’s because you’re pregnant." said Elijah, in a quiet tone.
" Pregnant?" Haley’s eyes widened, "That’s impossible."
" Yes, you are pregnant." Elijah answered with certainty.
" Why didn’t the doctor tell me this?" Haley was overwhelmed. How did Elijah know she was pregnant?
" Grimm told me you were pregnant. "Elijah glanced at Haley’s belly, "It’s the baby of the undead."
"What the hell are you talking about? " Haley asked, surprised.
Elijah’s eyes were downcast, and he made no reply. After a while, he said, as if to himself, " There is no moon tonight."
"Elijah, are you listening to me?" Haley shook Elijah’s arm, urgency in her voice. Her eyes were fixed upon Elijah, and she longed for his response. "What is an undead baby?"
Elijah looked into Haley’s eyes, and they seemed to hold a thousand secrets in their gray depths. He asked, "Haley, do you love me?"
"Yes, I love you." Haley said without hesitation, "I love you more than my life."
Elijah smiled slightly at this answer, and there was a hint of relief and emotion in the smile. "Then would you die for me?"
"Yes, I would." Haley’s answer remained firm, without the slightest hesitation. She knew that her love for Elijah transcended everything, including life.
"Good." Elijah kissed Haley’s forehead, "Thank you for everything, I will always remember you."
"What’s going on, Elijah?" As Haley spoke, she felt her head spin, and Elijah’s face blurred in her vision. She tried so hard to stay awake and get an answer from Elijah, but the dizziness kept coming on like a raging tide.
" Elijah..." Haley’s voice was low, like a murmur in the wind. She tried to raise her hand to grasp Elijah, but found herself weak, as if all her strength had been drained from her in the moment.
Haley’s body began to shake and her consciousness faded. Everything around her became unreal, as if she were in a world of illusions. Then, slowly, she sank back on the table.
After an indeterminate amount of time, when Haley opened her eyes, she realized that she was lying on a long, cold, hard table, the touch of which instantly caused goosebumps to appear on her skin.
She tried to struggle to her feet, but, to her horror, she realized that her arms and legs seemed to be bound by an invisible force, and that, try as she might, she could not move a muscle.
Her eyes widened as she tried desperately to make out her surroundings. In this dimly lighted space, where only a feeble flame of a candle flickered, the bright light cast eerie shadows, as if a demon had crawled out of hell and was wielding its teeth and claws.
Haley rolled her eyes and tried to look around. Only then did she realize that she was in a basement, and that the walls around her were damp and mottled, and reeked of decay. The smell of blood was thick in the air and so pungent that it made Haley gag.
Suddenly the ugly face of the dark wizard came into Haley’s vision, and his cold fingers passed gently over Haley’s cheek. His fingers ran over her skin like cold serpents, and made Haley shudder.
The face of the dark wizard wore an eerie smile, as if it were peculiar to a demon that had crawled out of the depths of hell and was full of evil and cruelty.
" Hey, little princess." dark wizard’s voice was low and hoarse," It’s time to sacrifice."
