Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 158 I Hate to See You Leave
"What is my plan?" Klaus asked, looking a bit puzzled.
"Your battle plan," Emily said in a calm voice. "I need to know what specific tasks you have for me."
Although Emily was angry at Klaus for barging in like this, she also knew that Klaus was the general and had the authority to decide when to wage war on the West.
What really bothered her was that Klaus hadn’t discussed the decision with her beforehand and always put himself in danger without a second thought.
She was upset with Klaus for ignoring her feelings. As she turned away from him, she wandered aimlessly through the crowded streets, the cold night air drying the tears on her face and bringing her a sense of calm.
Emily’s mind was focused on one thought: war was coming tomorrow. And as Luna of the Green Forest Pack, a reserve military area, Emily had important responsibilities on her shoulders.
Although Emily hadn’t experienced war before, she understood the significance of the reserve area. Delivering arms and supplies to the front lines and providing relief to the wounded were tasks that a garrison should undertake.
But Klaus hadn’t told her about these plans, even though the war was just around the corner.
"You don’t need to do much," Klaus said. "You just need to handle your daily pack management. I’ll arrange for Karl to specifically take charge of docking with the frontline war zone."
"Klaus," Emily interrupted, looking at him seriously. "When I took over the pack, you said you wouldn’t protect me forever and that I was your Luna, with the same power as you. Have you forgotten all of that?"
"I haven’t forgotten what I said," Klaus stepped forward, and this time Emily didn’t step back.
Klaus’s tall frame stood before Emily. He tilted his head slightly and explained patiently, "Managing a pack and fighting a war are two different things. Karl was a former Beta member of Alpha Andrews’ pack. He has more frontline experience than you. That’s why I’m assigning him this task."
"But I’m the Luna of the pack, and I should be the one to handle these things," Emily emphasized.
"This isn’t the time for bravado, my love," Klaus reached out to touch Emily’s cheek, but she turned her head to the side. Klaus’s outstretched hand awkwardly retreated.
"Klaus, I don’t want to argue with you. But I want you to respect me," Emily said. "If you decide to put Karl in charge of docking with the front, shouldn’t you have consulted me first?"
Klaus sighed, "Fine, I’ll tell you whatever you want to know."
"Now?"
"Yes," Klaus said. "Come to my study; I have all the information on my computer."
Emily then followed Klaus. He went to his desk, turned on his computer, and began tapping his fingers on the keyboard.
"Come here," Klaus said, sitting down at his computer and gesturing for Emily to join him.
Emily walked over to Klaus, who was leaning slightly forward, her eyes fixed on the computer screen. They were so close that she could distinctly hear his deep breathing.
A mix of emotions surged through Emily’s mind. They had been arguing, and now they were so close together.
"This is my battle plan," Klaus said, pointing to the file on the screen while carefully explaining its contents to Emily. "Tomorrow, we’ll launch an artillery attack on the western border. Then, we’ll send troops to capture the pack on the western frontier. The main job of the reserve military zone is to transport weapons and supplies to the frontline theater on time, and to send the wounded from the frontline to our pack for treatment."
Emily listened quietly to Klaus’s explanation. A few moments passed before he finally finished and asked, "Do you have any questions?"
Emily pulled her gaze away from the screen. Honestly, Klaus’s battle plan was very detailed. He was a seasoned general, and she was far from being an ordinary soldier.
Perhaps he was right that her job was to run the pack, and the rest should be left to the experienced.
But every time Klaus made an important decision without consulting her beforehand, Emily couldn’t help but grumble. She didn’t answer Klaus’s question immediately, but pretended to think about it.
The room fell into a moment of silence. Klaus swiveled his chair to face her, silently gazing at her, with an atmosphere of ambiguity hanging like a thin veil between them.
Suddenly, there was a loud thud outside the room. The sound was muffled but powerful, breaking the vague tranquility at once. Emily was startled. The next second, she was instantly in Klaus’s arms.
"Don’t be afraid, I’m here," Klaus soothed her gently.
"What happened?" Emily leaned against Klaus’s firm, warm chest, her heart pounding violently.
Had another bomb been thrown at her house? No, the loud noise seemed to come from upstairs.
Was there an explosion in the house?
"You stay here, I’m going out to check," Klaus said, rising and placing Emily in a chair before heading to the door. As he pulled it open, a pungent smell of smoke hit his nose.
Klaus coughed twice as he waved the black smoke away with his hand. "What the hell is this?"
The room was filled with the unpleasant smell of smoke, so Emily quickly opened the window. In a few moments, the odor began to dissipate.
"What the hell happened?" Emily asked, covering her nose. "That sound seems to be coming from upstairs."
"I’ll check upstairs," Klaus said.
"I’ll go with you," Emily replied. She knew that the twin princesses lived upstairs and guessed that the explosion might have something to do with them.
It turned out to be just what Emily had guessed. When they arrived on the third floor, the stench of smoke was coming from one of the guest rooms. Mina was lying on the banister in the hallway, coughing nonstop, her pink tutu covered in black soot.
At that moment, Maggie emerged excitedly from the room with a clear glass bottle. When she saw Emily, she said excitedly, "Emily, look what I’ve invented!"
"What the hell are you doing out of bed at this hour?" Klaus asked angrily.
"Nothing," Maggie said, taking two steps back in fear as she quickly hid the glass bottle behind her.
"We heard an explosion. Are you guys okay?" Emily stepped forward and bent over the two princesses to examine their injuries.
"We were just experimenting," Mina turned to Emily. "But it failed."
"No, we succeeded," Maggie said smugly, shaking the deep purple liquid in the glass bottle at Mina. "Skunk and Toad had a chemical reaction."
"Enough," Klaus said. "Where is Dolly? Why isn’t she watching you guys?"
"One of the patrol members took the day off, so Dolly filled in for that person," Emily explained. "She should be on patrol right now."
Klaus looked at the mess in front of him and said impatiently, "I should be sending you all back to the Capitol right now."
"No, Emily promised Mother that she would keep us here until the end of the vacation," Mina protested. "You can’t send us away."
"We like it here," Maggie begged Klaus. "Don’t send us away."
"But there’s a war tomorrow, and it’s not safe for you to stay here," Klaus was adamant. "You will leave the pack tomorrow."
"No, we’re not going anywhere," Mina said, crossing her arms and beaming her displeasure.
"Look at what you all have done," Klaus grimaced. "You guys almost blew up the house."
Here’s the revised text with grammar corrections and adjustments to make it more natural and idiomatic for an American English novel:
"Actually, we were experimenting," Maggie explained. "It’s a potion that masks the odor. I’m going to name it ’Super Perfume.’"
"I don’t care what you’re experimenting with; you can’t continue to stay in the pack, anyway," Klaus said.
"Klaus," Emily interrupted Klaus, "it’s too late now. I think we should let them shower and go to bed first."
Emily looked over at the two dirty girls and asked, "Can you promise to behave yourselves and go to bed after your bath?"
"Yes, we promise," both girls answered at the same time.
"Now, go back to your rooms," Emily said.
Both girls went to their rooms immediately and closed the doors. Emily glanced around the dark room. They must have used that empty room as a laboratory.
Emily could imagine how messy it must have been inside that so-called laboratory. The maid happened to be off today, so she would have to wait until tomorrow when the maid came to clean the room.
"You’re indulging them too much," Klaus’s tone held a hint of reproach. "You shouldn’t have let them stay in the pack."
Emily said helplessly, "I promised Queen Mary I would look after them until the end of the vacation."
"Why did you promise her?" Klaus frowned. "You’re not a babysitter."
Emily did not answer; she wouldn’t tell Klaus what Queen Mary had threatened her with.
"Is this okay?" Emily said as she prepared to return to her room. Klaus grabbed her hand as she passed him.
"So, we’re okay, right?" He stared at her with anticipation in his green eyes.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about," Emily tried to shake his hand away, but his grip tightened.
"I said," Klaus whispered in her ear, "I’m so sorry, love. Don’t get mad again, okay?"
Every word he spoke rang clear and true in her ears. Instantly, her heart softened.
Emily looked at Klaus, and he nodded.
"Okay," Emily said. Klaus smiled as he let go of her hand and then picked her up in a cross-body hug.
"What are you doing, Klaus?" Emily pouted.
"Let’s go back to the room," Klaus whispered softly. "I have something else I want to say to you."
