Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 154 Preparations for War
North, Green Forest Pack
Emily stood silently at the entrance to the pack, the breeze ruffling her hair, her eyes following the lorries laden with arms and supplies as they slowly rolled into the pack territory. Wheels rolled, crushing deep marks in the dirt road, and the dull sound, as if it were the prelude to war, beat upon her heart again and again.
Arms gleamed grimly in the sunlight, and boxes of supplies were being carried down. The members of the pack were busily weaving through it, the strong arms of the men bearing heavy weapons, their faces tense, the sweat trickling down their foreheads and dripping on the ground, but no one stopped. The women carried the medical supplies carefully, their eyes both worried and determined. Every man was giving his all to the coming war.
An indescribable melancholy came over Emily. She watched all this with a bitter heart. She does not like war, never has.
War, what a cruel thing it is, bringing endless destruction and misery, and leaving men in misery. What were once peaceful lives and beautiful smiles may be lost in the smoke of war. How she wished it were all a bad dream, and that when she awoke the world would still be peaceful and good.
" What are you thinking about? Kitten. "A deep voice came from behind, and Emily turned her head to see Klaus standing behind her.
He was dressed in a black jacket, a color so pure that it seemed to absorb all the light in the world. He looked at her with soft eyes.
"I’m just thinking about the war." Emily replied softly.
"You don’t seem to be very happy." Klaus asked, "Is it the pack that’s upsetting you lately?"
Emily shook her head slightly, "No. "
"Shall I go for a walk with you?" Klaus put his arm around Emily’s shoulder, "I think you should get some fresh air. This will help relieve stress."
" Okay." Emily nodded.
Now that the rebellion had subsided, Emily devoted her energies to the renovation of the old house, while Klaus busied himself with the preparations for war.
Although Dolly would help her with some of the work, Dolly spent more time caring for the two princesses.
The two tricksters were always fond of pestering Dolly, and they begged her to take them to the woods whenever she could, for the princesses always found strange creatures in the woods, and they were far more interested in creatures they had never seen before than in frogs.
So long as those two princesses did not give her any trouble, it was all right. Emily thought to herself that she would send them back to the capital as soon as the vacation was over.
Emily and Klaus reached the river, and they walked slowly up its lower course. It was the first time Emily and Klaus had walked along the river since their arrival, and they were too busy.
The autumn sky was pale gray, as if veiled in a thin veil, and the atmosphere was slightly cold. The wind was quietly blowing, and there was already a slight coolness, and the grass and trees by the river were rustling. The river was still murmuring, but it was a little less gay, a little more still, than in summer. The branches and leaves of the weeping willows by the river are not so luxuriant as they once were, and the yellow and green leaves occasionally drop a few fragments, as if to tell the passage of time.
In the meadows by the river, most of the wildflowers had withered away, leaving only a few spots of colour. But there was a different fascination in that touch of withered yellow. There were also fewer butterflies and bees, and the whole world seemed to be quiet.
" Klaus ." Emily stopped, she looked at Klaus, "Why do we have to fight?"
Klaus chuckled as if he had heard a very childish question.
"Why?" Klaus pretended to think for a moment, "Oh, kitten. War is never what we expect, but sometimes it is unavoidable. The world is not always peaceful, and when someone threatens our homeland, our loved ones, everything we hold dear, we have to stand up and fight. We fight to protect what is worth protecting so that those we love can live in safety and tranquility. We are not fighting for war’s sake, but for peace."
Klaus looked tenderly at Emily and gently took her hand. "Believe me, when this war is over, we will have real peace."
" Lie." Emily’s eyes were stubborn and disappointed.
" War was never about protection, it was just a pretext for men to fight for power and money. You keep saying that you are doing this for your country and for your loved ones, but in the end you are only fulfilling your own ambitions. Look at the land that is about to be consumed by the flames of war, look at the terrified eyes of the innocent, where is this protection? This is a clear case of selfish plunder. "Emily shuddered slightly, "I don’t believe that war can bring true peace, it will only bring more pain and destruction."
Klaus’s expression froze, and he squinted at Emily, "What the hell is wrong with you?"
Emily lowered her head as she let out a sigh, "I just don’t like fighting. "
Men always think that only force can solve everything, but force often only makes the problem more complicated and difficult to manage. It has brought about endless destruction and misery, filled holes in otherwise beautiful homes, separated relatives from life and death, and allowed hatred to continue to fester in the hearts of men. Force is not the best way to solve problems. It is simply a short-sighted, impulsive choice that will only end up plunging everyone deeper into misery.
Emily grieved at the thought of the high potential of war to affect the innocent. She knew that the Green Forest Pack was a military reserve theater, and that if war were to be waged, the Green Forest Pack would not be able to avoid being affected by it.
Although she had only been in the pack for a short time, after this time together she had established a friendly relationship with the members of the pack. She did not wish war to break the peace.
And the dream that had disturbed her.
"We can’t avoid war." Klaus spoke in a calm tone, as if he had become accustomed to the dangers and injuries of war.
"I’m worried about you." Emily looked up at Klaus, "And the pack."
Klaus took Emily in his arms and said to her in a firm tone, "I will win this fight."
At this moment there came the sound of hurried footsteps in the woods, which broke the stillness of the moment from far and near.
Susan hurried along in her patrol dress, her figure weaving through the variegated shadows of the trees like an agile fawn. Her face was anxious and tense, her forehead was covered with fine beads of perspiration, and a few strands of hair lay disordered against her cheek. She eagerly ran up to Klaus and Emily and panted and said, "Alpha, Luna, I’ve spotted someone suspicious."
"Where was it found? How many were there?" Klaus asked.
"At the edge of the woods to the east, there are three men." Susan replied.
Klaus bowed slightly, and he let go of Emily slightly, "Susan and I go find those suspicious people, you go and gather the others over."
Emily nodded, and she complied at once.
