Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 122 You have no right to use my last name
After dinner Emily and Dolly helped Mrs. Bauer clear the table and do the dishes. Klaus and Marx took Mrs. Bauer’s two youngest children outside to play a game of wooden swords. Riding on the shoulders of Klaus and Marx, the two boys attacked each other with wooden swords in their hands. Other children from the village came to watch, and the noise from without reached the kitchen.
Mrs. Bauer, looking out through the kitchen window at the children, exclaimed to Emily, "The children are very fond of your husband. His name is Klaus, isn’t it?"
Emily nodded as she washed the dishes, "He’s my mate."
"Really?" Mrs. Bauer shows her surprise as she drops the rag in her hand, "Oh, Moon Blessing, you’ve finally met your Mate."
"And her partner happens to be the Alpha of the North whom she married. " Dolly interjected, "That sounds like it was meant to be."
"Oh Emily, you’ve endured so much suffering before. I wish you much happiness in the future. " Mrs. Bauer choked back a sob.
" Mrs. Bauer, if you keep crying, the river is going to rise." Dolly joked.
"You know I can’t help myself sometimes. "Mrs. Bauer showed a smile as she asked Emily," Are you coming back this time to go again?"
Emily puts the washed dishes on the wire rack as she sighs softly, "Yes, I plan to return north once I’ve taken care of my mother’s ashes."
"Oh, then I don’t know if we’ll see each other again. " Mrs. Bauer said reluctantly, "I’m worried about you without someone by your side."
"Don’t worry about me, Dolly will be with me up north. " Emily said, wiping the tears from Mrs. Bauer’s face with a tissue, "I’ll be fine."
"Is Dolly leaving here too? " Mrs. Bauer looked at Dolly in disbelief.
"Mrs. Bauer, you know I was orphaned as a child. And Emily is my best friend and my family. I want to be there for her. " Dolly’s tone was bitter," Besides, I don’t have a Mate, and it would be better for me to get out of here rather than wait to be arranged by Alpha to marry a man I don’t love."
Mrs. Bauer sighed, "That sounds like a good idea too."
"Mrs. Bauer, I will call you often. " Emily reassured her, "When you are free, I will invite you up north for a vacation too."
Mrs. Bauer smiled, "Thank you for your kindness. You know I have two children to look after. Besides, I never left my pack in my life. My life is confined to this one place." she said and started to cry again.
"Oh Mrs. Bauer, don’t cry." Emily hugged her, "I’m going to miss you."
"Mrs.Bauer, I hear the river is rising. "Dolly purposely made a gurgling sound, "Listen, the river is about to spread to your house."
"Well, I admit I’m a sentimental woman. " Mrs. Bauer was amused by Dolly, whose chubby face still bore two tear tracks.
Mrs.Bauer wiped away her tears, and looked at Dolly as if she had thought of something.
"That Marx man, I think he’s nice. " Mrs. Bauer said to Dolly, "If he doesn’t have a MATE either, would you like to try him?"
"Oh, the tattooed man? "Dolly looked like she had eaten shit, she had a hard look on her face, "I’d rather be single than be with him, never."
"Why not? " Mrs. Bauer asked in confusion.
" Mrs. Bauer is right, why don’t you try Marx," Emily chimed in, "Marx is handsome and he’s strong."
"Stop. " Dolly interrupted them sharply, "Stop telling me about that tattooed man, I’m going to bed."
said Dolly, as she turned away from the kitchen, and then she walked quickly up the stairs, her footsteps rapidly disappearing at the bottom.
Mrs.Bauer looked after Dolly, who smiled at Emily and then shook her head helplessly.
As Mrs.Bauer’s house had only a limited number of rooms, and as there were no hotels in this remote country, Emily and Dolly could only be accommodated in one. So Emily and Dolly had to sleep in the same bed, and Klaus and Marx had to go to a neighbor’s.
Emily finds some toiletries from Mrs. Power’s house that she is going to take to Klaus and Marx, but as she is leaving the house, a Jeep pulls up in front of Mrs. Bauer’s house.
A middle-aged man in a blue hat pushed open the driver’s door, and when he got out of the car and saw Emily, a look of delight came into his brown eyes, "Emily, you’re back."
"Mr Bauer, good to see you." Emily went up to Mr Bauer and hugged him, "What took you so long to get back now?"
"I’ve been touring the village with Alpha all day. " Mr Bauer peeked over to the co-pilot’s seat, "We just finished work."
Emily then saw Alpha Robert push open the passenger door, step out with one leg crossed, then step out again with a grimace on his face.
He gave Emily a disdainful look and then said to Mr Bauer, "Why do I have outsiders coming into my pack and I don’t even know it."
"Emily is not an outsider, Alpha." Mr Bauer explained.
Alpha Robert glared at Mr Bauer, "I’ll hold you accountable afterward, now, leave us."
Mr. Bauer had to be made a slave to Alpha’s orders. He gave Emily a worried look, and turned to go.
"Why did you come back? " Alpha Robert questioned Emily, "Did you come back to show off to me? My wife has been sentenced to death, my daughter has been deported, and you have reduced me to a laughing stock. Is that what you wanted to see happen?"
"Your wife? " Emily sneered, "If I remember correctly, you divorced Katherine before she was sentenced to death."
She had never forgotten how the man before her, when he learned that Katherine had been condemned to death, had been eager to divorce his wife and get rid of her, and that he had always had his own interests at heart.
She could not believe that her mother had ever been in love with a man like that.
"I’m ashamed of you, Emily," Alpha Robert said coldly, "As a bastard, you’ve used my last name until now. I should have cut you out of my family, but I did not because I still had your dead mother in mind."
"You were perfectly capable of doing that. " Emily said stubbornly, "Using your last name shames me just as much."
When Alpha Robert had said to the King’s face that Emily was not necessarily his daughter, she had determined to strike the word father from her memory for ever.
"How dare you talk to me like that. " Alpha Robert said angrily, "If I hadn’t kept you alive in the first place, do you think you would have survived this long?"
"Enough, I don’t want to hear any more of your crap. " Emily snarled at Alpha Robert, "It was you who betrayed my mother. It was your mistress who killed my mother. It was you who deserted me when I was a child. It was you who forced me to go to the North and join the family. You have caused all this, and you blame me for it. You know what? I would hate to kill you if I could."
Alpha Robert’s face stiffened; he had evidently not expected Emily to say such a thing to him.
"I’m going to revoke your last name, and from this day forward, you no longer belong to my family. Even if you were the Crown Princess of the North, you would still be nobody after all. "Alpha Robert said viciously, "You will be no different than Rogue."
Was he going to banish her? No, he couldn’t. Emily was furious.
"She doesn’t need to use your last name." Klaus came striding in, and, stepping in front of Emily, glared angrily at Alpha Robert.
"Emily is my wife and she has my last name now."
The headlights of the car shone down on Klaus. His tall back was like a wall of security protecting Emily behind him, and he exuded an aura of strength that forced Alpha Robert to back away.
"Northerners are not welcome in my pack. " Alpha Robert clenched his fists.
Klaus’ mouth curled into a mocking smile, "So what are you going to do to me? I would not mind a life-or-death duel with you. I’m sure the King of the South won’t hold me responsible if you’re killed by me."
Alpha Robert’s mouth twitched several times as he looked at Klaus, who was taller than him, and he hesitated.
" I will only allow you to stay in my pack for two days, after that get the hell out of my pack immediately," Alpha Robert hinted to Emily in a threatening tone, "Emily thinks about those other people who are still here and don’t get them in trouble."
"I don’t like the way you talk." Klaus gets angry, and just as he is about to make a move on Alpha Robert, Emily grabs his arm.
Emily said to Klaus in a very low voice, " Klaus, let him go."
Emily knew exactly what Alpha Robert meant by what he had just said. If she angered Alpha Robert, he would punish the rest of the village, and he could do so.
Klaus slowly lowered his arm and watched as Alpha Robert drove away in the jeep. Emily looked at the car and an indescribable complexity came over her.
Emily decides that if she is really Alpha Robert’s daughter, she will never take him for her father.
For she hated him!
Klaus turned and gazed down at Emily, "Are you okay?"
"Yes, I’m fine." Emily bowed her head, so that Klaus should not see the tears in her eyes.
"Camilles, remember the last name." Klaus cut her face, "From now on, you will use my last name."
Emily nodded as a teardrop slipped from the corner of her eye and trickled onto Klaus’s hand.
"It is my mother’s last name. " Klaus whispers, "and yours."
He held Emily close, and for a long, long time they stood there in the darkness.
