Chapter 164: Alpha, Wanna Hold Me To Sleep?

Regardless of Ace behaving like he is fine and strong, he is totally not.

The weight of everything crashes down on him, but he refuses to let it show.

His parents are gone. His father was poisoned with silver. Adele did this, and she’s still out there, walking free.

The thought burns in his chest like fire, but he pushes it down. He doesn’t have time for grief. Not now. Not when there’s still unfinished business.

After the funeral, the Alphas and elders gather for a meeting. It had already been planned beforehand, a necessary discussion about everything that has happened and what needs to be done.

Kieran is forced to attend, he has no choice. As the head of Alphas, he is expected to be there, to lead, even though he barely seems present.

Jun stands beside Ace as the wolves start filing into the meeting hall. His concern is evident in the way he watches him, the way his fingers twitch slightly as if he wants to reach out. "Ace, we should go home, you need to rest." he says quietly, his voice gentle.

He wants to get him away from this environment.

Ace shakes his head, his expression unreadable. "I’m fine." His tone leaves no room for argument.

Jun studies him for a moment, reluctant, but he knows there’s no point in insisting. Ace won’t listen. Not when he doesn’t want to.

So, he follows as Ace strides into the hall, where the Alphas and elders are already seated, waiting.

The room is heavy with tension. The air itself feels thick, weighed down by unspoken thoughts and restless energy.

Ace doesn’t hesitate. He steps forward, his presence commanding attention. "Just how strong and tricky is that girl to challenge everyone?!" His voice is sharp, demanding. "Does she have any specials?!"

His words cut through the silence, but no immediate answer comes. The Alphas exchange uncertain glances.

Ace exhales sharply, his patience wearing thin. These people, these leaders, have been trying to catch Blake for so long, and yet she still manages to slip through their fingers.

It’s frustrating.

Infuriating.

Finally, one of the elders speaks. "She’s not just strong. She’s careful. She knows how to hide, how to cover her tracks. She moves like a ghost."

Ace clenches his jaw. That’s not good enough.

"If she is out of control and she is just a new werewolf, how can she know all that?! Anyway, If we can’t get hold of her by running after her, then let’s use another way!" He slams his hand against the table, the sound echoing through the room. "You people need to think! No one is coming up with anything reliable?!"

Silence.

Ace’s grip tightens against the table edge, his patience snapping. He can’t believe this. They’ve been sitting here for how long now, and still, no one has a real plan?

"Alright," he says, his voice steady but laced with frustration. "What about the Alpha’s summon? Can’t that bring her running all the way here?!"

There’s a shift in the room. Some of the elders straighten slightly, considering the idea.

"It could work," one of them murmurs. "But those police are all over the place..."

Ace’s eyes narrow. "What about them?"

"If they happen to be searching around the place and hear that roar, they could suspect something here since they’ve heard Blake do that." another Alpha speaks up.

Before anyone can respond, a sharp knock sounds against the heavy doors.

The room stills instantly.

An omega steps inside, his face pale, his eyes darting between them. "Alpha Kieran, the police are here!" His voice is tight, filled with urgency.

Kieran is on his feet in an instant. His expression remains unreadable, but there’s something dark in his eyes as he strides toward the door.

Ace doesn’t hesitate to follow, Rey moving in step beside him.

The moment they step outside, two detectives stand waiting at the entrance, their sharp eyes scanning the crowd of wolves still lingering from the funeral.

The sheer number of people seems to have caught their attention.

Kieran stops a few feet from them, his presence strong and unwavering. "Can I help you, officers?" His voice is controlled, but there’s an edge to it, like he already knows this visit won’t be a simple one.

One of the detectives steps forward, his gaze flickering between Kieran and the sea of wolves in the bath. "Labeled private property? What goes on here? Why are there so many people gathered?"

Before Kieran can respond, Ace steps forward.

"Well, instead of asking what people are doing here, how about you get busy with your work and find out whatever made me an orphan?" His voice is sharp, cold. His eyes burn with something unreadable.

The detective falters slightly, momentarily thrown off by the intensity of Ace’s words. They know what have caused so many deaths lately.

The second officer clears his throat. "We are aware of the situation. Many have lost their lives, and we are doing our best to track and eliminate the creature responsible. We..."

"Yeah, please do," Ace interrupts, his tone unwavering. "So then you can go, because we are kinda busy here, still mourning."

His words leave no room for argument.

The detectives exchange a look before nodding curtly. Without another word, they turn and leave.

Ace doesn’t watch them go. He doesn’t spare them another glance.

Instead, he turns sharply on his heel and strides back into the hall. His steps are purposeful, controlled. The moment he reenters, all eyes are on him again.

He doesn’t hesitate.

"If we use the Alpha’s summon, then we can make Blake come to us instead of chasing her down aimlessly," he states. His voice is firm, unwavering. "I don’t see a better plan, do you?" freёweɓnovel.com

The Alphas murmur among themselves, some nodding in agreement. Others murmur in agreement.

Ace goes quiet for a moment as if giving them a chance to come up with other thoughts if they have, but none says a thing, they seem to be perfectly fine with his thoughts.

Ace exhales deeply before speaking.

"Well then, I think we should relax a bit," he states, voice steady, though the weight of exhaustion presses against his chest. "I mean, you guys have tried that much and are unable to get hold of her. Then I don’t think those humans will be able to catch her either. So let’s wait until tomorrow- when the officers have gone far enough for Alpha to summon her without catching their attention. But meanwhile, a few can still go after her just to keep track of her. Not those who were there though. You can take turns. Let others rest."

His words carry authority, making it clear that this is not a mere suggestion, it’s the most rational course of action.

"Or what do you guys think?" He adds, glancing around.

The gathered alphas exchange looks, murmuring amongst themselves before one finally speaks up.

"That’s a perfect way for now," an older alpha nods in agreement. "I think your idea is effective."

Ace gives a small nod, but Jun, standing silently beside him, watches him with concern.

He knows Ace isn’t fine. This isn’t him. The way he is speaking, the control he is exerting, it’s unnatural.

It’s forced.

Ace is burying himself in action to avoid facing what he feels, and Jun sees right through it.

Ace turns then, his piercing eyes landing on Kieran again. The weight of his gaze is enough to make even an alpha of Kieran’s caliber feel like he is being scrutinized under a burning spotlight.

"What about you, Alpha?" Ace addresses him formally, something he rarely does, and the distance in his voice stings. "What do you think? Do you have a better plan, or should we go with this one?"

Kieran, who has been silent since the discussion started, finally speaks. His voice is low, firm, a contrast to the storm raging within him. "I will go with yours. I don’t think there’s any other better way."

Ace’s lips twitch into something resembling satisfaction, though the exhaustion in his eyes betrays him. "Perfect."

He shifts his attention back to the room. "So, everyone who has been running up and down should go rest, and the ones to replace them should go keep track of that girl."

Turning to Jun, he says, "Jun, can you please find Rika and Max and tell them to rest? And if they feel comfortable to leave, they should go back to their people. They’ve helped a lot, and I don’t want to drag them deeper into this mess."

"Sure," Jun says quietly. He doesn’t argue, though he wants to. Ace is not okay. But now is not the time to push him. Instead, he silently exits the hall, joining the others through the door.

With most of the people gone, the room feels eerily quiet. Kieran remains standing still, rigid like a statue, while Rey sits at the table, fingers absentmindedly tapping against the wood.

Ace exhales, turning toward Kieran, his lips curling into a smirk that doesn’t quite reach his eyes.

"I feel really drained, Alpha," he murmurs, his voice dipping into something unreadable. "Do you wanna hold me to sleep?"

Kieran’s breath hitches.
