"Come on, you know you cannot just ask someone for something and not give them anything in return. As for you, I’m only asking for your mate, the one you can forget and then find love somewhere else easily."
She rolled her eyes as she said that, then gently pointed at her chest.
"Anyone would love to be in love with you, Kash," she uttered, then began to hum.
I quickly covered my ears.
She turned, saw me doing that, and let out a chuckle.
"You think I was trying to control you? Silly you. I need your love. I’m not going to hypnotize you into falling for me," she corrected.
I looked around again. I wanted to make sure she was alone, and it seemed like she was. There was nobody else with her.
"What are you thinking, Kash? Do you not want the water?" she asked, smiling widely.
There was a comforting way in which she spoke.
"How do I believe you? How do I know you will give me the water once I give you what you want?" I demanded, needing to know if she was trustworthy.
She stared at me, then nodded, dragging her hand through the water and splashing some of it on me.
"You’re not wrong. I mean, we just met. How could we trust each other?" she remarked, then suddenly jumped into the water.
My breath caught in my throat.
I scanned the water, worried, trying to catch a glimpse of her.
Did I lose her? Did she leave? Would she never appear again?
All those questions were swirling in my mind when she finally surfaced.
"Don’t worry, I did not disappear on you," she laughed, shaking her head as if calling me an idiot.
Then she extended her hand and opened her fist.
A pearl rested in her palm.
"What is that?" I demanded.
"That is what you want. Do you think blue river water is something you can collect like normal water? It comes in the form of a pearl, special just like I am, and just like you are to me," she explained.
She swam closer, then rose upright again, lifting herself from my feet to my level in an intimate way.
"So tell me, what can you do for this water?" she asked.
She traced her finger over my shirt, slowly reaching one of the buttons and opening it.
For a second, I could hear my heart beating faster.
Even though she claimed she was not using strength or hypnotism to control me, she was clearly using seduction.
But every time I thought of Iris, I returned to awareness.
"Fine, but what would you do with my mate?" I asked, slowly taking her hand.
I noticed the way she gasped and then shyly looked away before I pushed her hand aside. She realized then that it was not an intimate gesture, but an attempt to stop her from touching me.
"That will be none of your business, but I promise I will be gentle," she replied, snickering as she swam away again.

I took a deep breath and stepped aside.
"Give me the pearl," I demanded, stretching my hand out.
She quickly approached, swimming like an athlete, and placed her hand in mine.
"I wish you could ask for my hand," she remarked, pouting sadly before holding the pearl out.
"Your mate?" she questioned, lifting her shoulder high, trying to look cute.
"Come out," I called.
Then I realized Lara could not hear me.
I sighed and turned around, giving a hand gesture, the same one I had planned to use when Lara needed to come out.
Just as I had told her, she stepped out.
Eira looked at Lara, and I noticed her smirk turning creepier.
Lara turned as well.
I should have informed her a little about Eira, but I had not seen her myself, so it was fair that I could not tell Lara much about her.
Lara began to move toward Eira, and before Eira could reach her, I extended my palm, demanding the pearl.
She gave me a seductive look before dropping the pearl into my hand, then reached toward Lara with excitement in her eyes.
I quickly secured the pearl and pulled my other hand behind my back for the dagger.
"So you’re her mate. Let me see your face," Eira remarked.
As she said that, she pulled the mask off Lara’s face, making Lara gasp in shock.
Eira turned to me, her face twisting, but the moment she saw me pull out the dagger, she grabbed Lara.
Lara did not have time to react before she was dragged straight into the water.
Panic struck me, and I jumped in after her.
Lara began to drown, and I knew that was not normal.
Lara was a good swimmer, so watching her struggle to surface told me exactly what Eira was doing.
She was drowning Lara, and she would have done worse to Iris if I had brought her.
That was why, when Iris suggested she wanted her to come, I refused.
I reached Lara and noticed silver strands of hair tangled tightly around her ankle.
I raised the dagger and tried to cut them, but the pressure of the water was too strong.
After several struggles, I managed to free Lara and swim as fast as I could.
The water could not hold me back for long.

When I reached the shore with Lara, I heard a loud screech from Eira.
By then, I had grabbed Lara and ran toward the tunnel.

The minute dinner ended, I started to walk toward Iris, and I noticed she caught on because she turned around and told me I was not welcome in her room.
However, I grabbed her by the arm and pulled her inside with me.
Once the door closed, I knew Lara would not come looking for me because I had told her I was going to confront Iris and warn her not to run away this time, or the consequences would be harsh.
She was probably thinking I was just taking my anger out on Iris.
In reality, the moment the door shut, I slammed Iris against the wall and pressed my lips against hers.
