Chapter 217: 217-Maybe They Really Love My Children

Iris:

"Do not tell me how to treat my kids. Besides, this is their home too," I snapped.

I felt a strange anger toward her, one that made me want to lash out, but I kept myself together for my children’s sake.

"You will find out very soon whose house this is. For now, just watch your world crumble," she commented in a snarky tone.

My face tightened again. Before I could say anything, Kash entered the mansion.

"What is going on?" Kash asked, his hands in his pockets.

Lara instantly put on a soft, sad expression.

"I was just telling Iris to ask the kids not to jump around because Amy was about to fall off the couch. I guess Iris got angry," Lara explained.

She was incredibly clever. She twisted everything into a completely different situation.

"Well, she was upset that your children were dirtying her beautiful mansion," I intervened, not letting her get away with the lies.

She looked at me, then back at Kash, her mouth open as if this were shocking news.

"No, Amy was falling down. Fine, whatever. I will not speak again," Lara replied, quickly giving in and using emotions to win the argument.

I watched Kash stare at Lara, then look back at me. I expected Lara to storm off, but she did not give up.

She wanted a reaction from Kash. She wanted him to take a side, and I was sure even Kash realized it because he kept glancing between us. Then he cleared his throat, running a hand to his tie to loosen it.

"So what? It is not wrong to teach kids manners," Kash remarked.

The moment he said that, I turned around, grabbed both my kids, and started walking toward my bedroom.

"See? This is exactly how aggressive she acts," I heard Lara complain, but I did not stop.

Once we were in the room, I began to pace, one hand on my lower back and the other on my forehead.

"Mommy, did we cross the line?" Amy asked.

The two of them sat on the bed, watching me with defeated looks on their faces.

"No, it is not you," I replied, turning to them and reassuring them it was not their fault.

"I do not like that bad lady. And daddy acts very weird around her," Colin admitted, making my heart ache for my children.

This was only the beginning. They had no idea how far and ugly things would get from here.

Kash was openly taking Lara’s side now. That meant it was only a matter of time before my children would be hurt for her sake, and I was not going to let that happen.

"It is okay. Your daddy loves you. He will never shout at you," I told them in a broken voice.

"But he shouted at you a few times before," Amy reminded me, lowering her head and folding her arms across her chest.

"You know what? We will not leave this room, and no arguments will happen," Colin decided, and Amy nodded along with him.

"No, kids, you do not have to trap yourselves in here. Just make sure you do not touch anything expensive, okay?" I replied, stepping over to grab their tablets and coloring books before returning to the bed with them.

"No, Mommy, we do not want to go outside and play. We will be fine here," Colin added, taking the drawing book from me and setting it on his small table on the bed.

Amy did the same.

"Can we please eat food here?" Amy requested without lifting her head from coloring a mushroom.

"Sure. I will go and get you food."

Since they were asking, I had no other choice. I was not going to force them to come out. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

It seemed like Lara had found another excuse to use my children to cause a rift between Kash and me, almost as if there was not one already.

But of course, nothing was ever enough for her.

When I stepped out of the room, I realized Kash and Lara were already in their room. They were probably packing their bags.

I headed toward the kitchen, where Zoe and her mother were overseeing the arrangements.

It looked like Zoe was also preparing some kind of dessert for Markus.

As I began preparing a tray of food, the two moved closer, elbowing each other and then glancing at me.

"You are not going to eat with us?" Zoe asked in a bitter tone.

Before I could respond, one of the maids spoke up.

"No. Luna Lara was upset about the children’s behavior, so I think they are eating in their room," the maid replied on my behalf.

I gave her a look. She immediately went quiet and turned back to her chores.

Some of these maids were always loud when it came to causing issues. They listened to everyone’s conversations.

"Wait, Lara was rude to Colin and Amy?" It was as if a switch had flipped in Zoe. Her voice carried sharp emotion.

"Not particularly. There was just a small incident," I replied, not giving them much attention.

"No, that is unacceptable. If Lara does not like their behavior, then she should go and eat in her room. This is their home. They will sit in the living room and eat with everyone," Zoe almost yelled, shocking me into turning my head toward her.

Even her mother placed a hand on Zoe’s shoulder to calm her. Zoe immediately slapped her mother’s hand away and turned to face her.

"Why the fuck is that woman making rules now? Now the blood of the family has to stay in their room? They are prince and princesses, Mother," Zoe argued.

"Actually, Lara was upset that the new couch cushions were getting ruined," the maid spoke up again when she noticed Zoe’s harsh reaction.

Zoe snapped her head toward her mother and then looked at me.

"Is that woman crazy? Those cushions were bought by me. If I do not care, who the fuck is she to complain?" Zoe snapped before storming out of the kitchen. Lady Vivian followed after her.

I did not take a stand the way they did. I simply filled my tray and headed back to my bedroom.
