Chapter 85: Chapter 85

Kevin POV

I woke up with a mild headache and a dead arm.

When I turned, Briella was curled next to me, snoring gently. I smiled, pushing back her hair as I stared at her face. I had to give it to myself, I had a knack for sleeping with only the best women. I couldn’t believe I’d added my uncle’s collection to the pile.

Stretching, while trying not to wake her, I slowly roused, placing her head gently on the sofa and rose to my feet. Padding barefoot, I crossed the room to the tiny kitchen and poured myself a glass of water. Just as I tried to pour myself a second glass, Briella stirred.

She groaned in pain, holding her head as she slowly adjusted into a sitting position.

“Oh, my head!” she groaned again.

I poured her a glass of water, grabbing some aspirin from the kitchen drawer as I came towards her. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

“Drink this,” I said quietly “It’ll help.”

She raised her head to see me and then I saw everything in her eyes. From surprise to rage and then to panic as her eyes scanned the room, probably taking in her discarded clothes strewn across the floor.

“What have I done?” she muttered, burying her face in her hands.

“Morning, gorgeous. Take the water and the medicine already, my hand is killing me.”

She raised her head, shooting me a glare. “Don’t you dare call me that?”

I chuckled, completely unbothered. Women, they all behaved the same after all. “Regretting last night already?”

“Regretting?” she yelled, as her eyes flashed with annoyance. “So, this was your plan from the beginning? To seduce me and...”

“Like you didn’t sleep with me too,” I cut her short rolling my eyes. “Stop acting like a child, Brie... it not only annoys me but it pisses the hell out of me too. You came here on your own accord and we did all those things with your consent.”

“Consent my foot!”  she scoffed rising to her feet.

I leaned back on the sofa watching as she padded barefooted to my bedroom. I could tell she was ashamed. A few minutes later, she returned to the living room, dressed only in her underwear.

I watched as she picked up her clothes strewn on the ground and began to dress quickly.

“What will you do now? I could help you talk to Aunt Helen on your behalf.”

“I’m leaving,” she said coldly “Talking to her changes nothing and I think I’ve overstayed my welcome and the hell I would allow myself to be embarrassed more.”

“How about Kai? Let me...”

“Don’t bother!” she said listlessly collecting the rest of her things. “He never liked me to begin with, I’m sure this is a perfect excuse for him to dump me. Can you drive me to school, I need to do a few things there?”

“What things and what things because I’m a bit busy and...”

“Today is the last day I’ll be in your hair, Kevin... all I’m asking is for a few hours to help me run around and nothing more. Don’t be wicked!”

A while later I was in the parking lot of the Pack’s college, waiting for Briella to leave the car.

“Ugh!” she groaned, slamming her hands against the dashboard of the car. “I’m such a fool.”

“Don’t take out your frustration on my car, Brie...” I said lightly and in an attempt at a joke. She turned to me, hers glaring with malice.

“I’ve made a mess of things, Kevin... not just with you, but with my entire position in the pack. Even if I choose to stay, I’ve been dethroned in every sense of the word. All my delusion of becoming the Luna of Royal Hunter Pack and Alpha Kai’s wife has been dashed and the ridicule I had to put up with yesterday after the incident with Lily, will only pour salt into the wound.”

“You could have ignored her, Brie...” I said quietly.

“Just thinking about her name makes me so angry. To think that she had taken the position I fought for with everything I have and fallen into Kai’s good graces without lifting a finger.”

“Maybe because they’re mate,” I said quietly. “That bond is the strongest thing I’ve ever seen.”

She bit her lips, trying to suppress the tears that gathered in her eyes. “Thank you for driving me here. I’ll go in now.”.

Later that morning, I tried to distract myself but my mind kept straying to Briella. I wanted to know what she was doing and if she had successfully gotten her transfer letter. Unable to suppress the urge, I went to the administrative block of the school and was told she left already.

Driving back to the pack house, I saw them standing in front of the Packhouse, her bags packed and waiting beside her. I didn’t know if her decision to leave was a good thing.

For one, she could regroup. Start fresh somewhere, maybe at her pack or somewhere far away from the humiliation and rejection that now defined her life here because everyone seemed to be talking about her and they didn’t have the kindest words.

“Shouldn’t you reconsider?”

I spoke behind her causing her to jolt. She turned sharply to see me, leaning lazily against the railing, my hands stuffed into my pockets.

“What do you want?” she snapped, clutching the handle of her suitcase like it was the only thing grounding her.

I raised my hands in mock surrender. “Relax, Brie. I’m just curious. Didn’t think you’d go through with it.”

Her eyes narrowed. “Go through with what?”

“Running,” I replied. “I thought you had more fight in you.”

Her jaw clenched as she turned to me, a frown on her brows. “I’m not running, I’m choosing to leave. There’s a difference.”

I chuckled. “If you say so.”

She turned away from me and reached for one of her suitcases.

“Let me drop you off at least. I feel bad already that you’re leaving. This is the least of things I can do.”

She hesitated for a few minutes before she finally nodded.

I stacked all her load in the trunk of my car and the back seat and soon, we sped off the road to the airport.

I waited until I saw her plane lift into the air before the smile I had on my face finally waned. Pulling out my phone, my thumb hovered over the screen as I typed out a message.

I wasn’t particularly close to Briella. These past few days, trying to play detective with her, had opened up a sweeter side of her that I’ve never seen before and I’m going to miss her. But her bitter rivalry with Lily combined with her sudden departure, presented an opportunity for me.

And I’ve always loved to capitalize on opportunities.

After a moment of hesitation and thinking of the best way to write it out, I finally typed:

Lily is about to become our Luna.

I hit send and slipped the phone back into my pocket.
