Alpha's Hidden Precious Luna-Chapter 40
Gregory POV (Lily’s father)
A storm was already brewing as we drove into the borders of Royal Hunters Pack.
Even as an alpha, Alpha Kai was not one of my favourite Alphas to visit. He was always by himself even during meetings and when he speaks, he speaks so softly that we usually have to strain our ears to hear him. Everyone was afraid of him... including me but this was necessary. I need to find out if Lily is alive or still dead.
The sky darkened, casting darkness on an afternoon. I didn’t want to take it as an omen but I had a feeling that things would not go the way I wanted. Our car pulled up to the old hunting lodge, it was a neutral ground. Seeing they wanted to meet at a neutral ground, it means they don’t intend for it to be a lasting meeting. At least, I know he’s hot seeking for alliance.
As me and Vanessa opened the doors of our car to alight, as if on cue, a bolt of lightning split the sky, illuminating the scene before us. The cottage stood like a sentinel, filled with darkness, except for the soft glow of the golden light coming from inside. But it was the figures standing outside the cottage that caught my attention.
Alpha Kia and his Beta Liam, alongside several warriors, stood like sentinels, their silhouettes giving them a dangerous look.
My gaze scanned the setup, resting solely on Alpha Kai whose back was turned to us. His attention seemed to be focused on something in his hand. A thin tendril of smoke rose from between his fingers – it was a lit cigarette, an unusual sight for a typically disciplined Alpha which I think Kai was. Despite the noise of our arrival, Kai didn’t turn to face us immediately. His shoulders were dropped with nonchalance. We might as well have dropped down from heaven and he wouldn’t notice.
Arrogant fool! I cursed in my heart, still keeping a neutral expression. How dare he ignore me? I was way older than him with a lot of experience under my belt. I will be narrating this incident in our monthly meeting; we can’t keep letting him get away with this impudence.
Beside me, I could feel Vanessa tense. Her heartbeat had quickened as we walked towards the small group. She was nervous and I couldn’t blame her. This wasn’t any kind of meeting for sure. This was more like a challenge... for what exactly? I wondered. Without taking my eyes off the group before us, I reached out through our mindlink, my voice calm and reassuring in her mind.
“Everything will be fine, my dear,” I soothed “Remember this is a simple task. We’re here to ensure that Lily is truly dead. So, don’t worry, just follow my lead. We’ll make sure everything goes as planned,”.
She responded with a subtle nod, though the unease in her eyes didn’t fade. I could still feel it. I understood why she was worried – we were walking into the den of another Alpha, one whose reputation for ruthlessness preceded him. But we had a part to play and weakness cannot be tolerated,”.
We walked forward, each step heavier than the last. Liam was the first to notice that we were approaching and he stepped forward to greet us, a smile on his face that didn’t reach his eyes. He was only being polite to us.
“Welcome,” Liam stated, his voice breaking the stillness and carrying easily over the sound of the wind. “We appreciate you making the journey. I hope the drive wasn’t too troublesome,” his eyes darted to Vanessa who was beside me. “And this must be the heir you talked about that you were going to come with?” Liam asked looking from me back to Vanessa.
“Yes,” I nodded “This is my daughter, Vanessa Stone and my heir. It’s important I start on time to bring her to simple meetings like this to help her learn the ropes and make her become a suitable Alpha in the future. Although she won’t be an Alpha directly, her husband would but I hope nothing will change between us,”.
“I see!” Beta Liam nodded “Is she engaged and set to marry?” he asked.
“Yes!’ I nodded feeling proud “Although we want to wait until she’s done with school, then the marriage will happen. It was only several years ago when she was still a baby. Can’t believe I’ll be giving her out to marriage soon,”.
My eyes turned to Kai again who still had his back to us. He hadn’t even moved an inch. It was as if it was his clone that was standing there. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Stone,” Beta Liam said stretching his hand towards her. “You’re beautiful, I must confess. Tell me, did your father force you to come on this journey with him or did you want to come?”
“It’s a pleasure to make your acquittance, Beta Liam and I wanted to come. Like my father rightly said a few minutes ago consider this training for when I become an Alpha... that’s before I get married of course. I hope we can forge good alliances with your pack,” she said.
“I’m impressed,” Beta Liam chuckled, his gaze turning to me “She’s smart... must take after your wife, definitely,”.
I laughed heartily, not getting offended by his teasing. Before I could respond, Kai finally turned around to face us. Instantly, a thunderbolt flashed, suddenly illuminating the scar on his face. The air seemed to thicken with tension – the cigarette between his fingers glowed briefly book he took a final drag and dropped it to the ground, rushing it under his boot with deliberate slowness.
The sight of Kai’s face sent of jolt of something close to fear. The scar on his face was a brutal reminder of his power and ruthlessness. This was a man who had fought for everything he had, who had taken lives without hesitation. And now, he was the one standing between me and my plan.
Fixing a smile on my face, I took a step towards him. “Alpha Kai,”.
