Lily POV
Locating the Bureau of Pack affair wasn’t hard.
Celeste had followed me through the winding corridors of the pack Public Affairs Headquarters. My heart was fluttering with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. She had led me to the door labelled ‘Registration Office,’.
“This is where you’ll become an official member of our pack,” she explained with a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry, it’s a simple process,”.
But just as she was about to escort me inside, she paused as her eyes turned black – an indication that someone was mind-linking her. When she came about, she gave me an apologetic smile.
“I’m sorry, I have to leave now. Something urgent that requires my attention just came up, and so I was asked to come to check it out. But I promise I’ll come back for you,”.
As she was talking, she was already at the elevator giving me no type to comment or ask questions. After she left, I took a deep breath and pushed open the ‘Registration Office’ door and stepped inside. The office was small but efficient, with a friendly-looking woman seated behind a desk covered in paperwork.
“Welcome,” the woman greeted me warmly. “You must be Lily. We’ve been expecting you. Please come through this way so I can attend to you properly,”.
She directed me to a smaller room where I made other smiling faces. Over the next hour, I answered questions, filled out forms and provided all the necessary information to become a registered pack member. The staff were amazing... each of them treated me as if I was the Alpha himself.
Answering my questions patiently and also guiding me with filling out the forms. As the final document was stamped, I felt a tingling sensation on my left arm. To my amazement, an intricate tattoo began to appear on my skin – the pack’s symbol, marking me as one of their own.
For the first time in my life, I felt like I really belonged to something.
“There!” the office lady said with satisfaction. “You’re now officially part of our pack. Congratulations, Lily,”.
“Thank you so much,” I gushed. Just as I was admiring my new tattoo, the door swung open. The atmosphere in the room instantly changed. A few of the staff who had been talking suddenly rushed to their desks and got busy.
As I turned to check out what was making them act that way, I gasped when is saw Alpha Kai, striding in, his powerful presence filling the small space.
“I thought I’d check on how things are progressing,” Kai said, his deep voice sending an involuntary shiver down my spine.
The office lady seemed flustered by his unexpected appearance too. “Alpha Kai, this is ... unusual. We’ve never had you personally oversee a registration before,”.
“Well, there’s a first time for everything. Walk me through what you did for the newest member of our pack,” he directed his question to the office woman.
While the woman was explaining to him, I felt that unexplainable pull towards him intensify. The one I had felt the other day in his office. I wanted to go closer to him, and sniff his scent... In the bright lift of the day, I couldn’t help but appreciate his strong, muscular body and his chiselled jawline. As if I was seeing him for the first time.
He was handsome no doubt and it didn’t help that he exuded an aura of power and authority that both intimidated and fascinated me. From the way his suit settled on his body like a second skin, I wondered if he loved working out so much because... he was so damn sexy.
I shuddered at my thought. Where had that come from?
It wasn’t until Kai’s piercing blue eyes locked onto mine that I realized I was staring. I quickly averted my gaze, feeling a blush creep up my cheeks. I didn’t want to appear impolite but I was still scared to be in his presence, especially with the way he made me feel. Mustering up courage, I turned to the office lady.
“I...I should go,” I stammered. “Thank you for your help,”.
But as I turned to leave, Kai’s hand shot out, gently but firmly grasping my arm. The touch sent a jolt of electricity through my body.
“Not so fast,” he said, his voice low and intense. “Every new member has to undergo a physical test to determine their potential for serving on the patrol team, either now or in the future,”.
I blinked in surprise. No one had mentioned that to me during the registration process. I also noticed the confused look that flashed across the office lady’s face. But the woman remained silent, clearly not willing to contradict her Alpha.
“Oh!” I said with a small voice. “I didn’t know. Where should I go for this test?”
A hint of a smile played at the corners of Kai’s mouth. “You’re in luck, I’m available to administer the test myself. Don’t worry, my methods are simple and easy and you’ll pass if you pay attention,”.
The rate of my heart doubled at the thought of being alone with the intimidating Alpha. Everything about this situation felt strange, but I knew I wasn’t in a position to refuse.
“Alright,” I agreed hesitantly. “When should we –,”.
Before I could finish my question, Kai’s expression changed. His eyes darkened and took on a distant look to show that someone was communicating with him via the mind link. His jaw clenched, as a flash of frustration crossed his features.
When he came about, he sighed. “I am sorry, but I have to leave right now. An urgent matter has come up that requires my immediate attention. But let’s set a date for your test. How about this Saturday, 10 Am, at the training grounds?”
I nodded, feeling both relieved and disappointed at the same time. “Got it Alpha, Saturday at 10. I’ll be there,”.
He nodded and strode out of the office, his powerful presence lingering even after he’d gone. I turned to the office lady immediately but on cue, Celeste returned.
“Thank God you’re here,” I rushed to her as she opened the door and whispered. “Is it normal for the Alpha to be so... involved in a new member registration?”.
Celeste’s brows arched for a few seconds as her eyes scanned the office then her gaze refocused on me. “Alpha Kai takes special interest in all pack matter. Come on, let’s get you home you’ve had quite a day already,”.
