Alpha's Hidden Precious Luna-Chapter 166
Lily POV
"Damn it, Lily," Uncle Tobias muttered, cursing out. "I’m sure Kai and his family can figure that out on their own. You have a more important role to play."
I stiffened at his dismissive tone. "More important than helping my mate?"
"In the grand scheme of things? Yes." His expression was unyielding. "The fate of our entire species might rest on your shoulders."
I rolled my eyes. "You make it sound like I’m some chosen one in a fantasy novel."
"Not chosen," he corrected. "Born. Blood-destined. There’s a difference."
Something in his intensity made me pause. "What aren’t you telling me, Uncle Tobias?"
He paced the room, his large frame making the space feel even more confined. "I’ve been able to locate survivors from our fallen kingdom. Former members of the Nightbane pack and their descendants."
My interest piqued despite my skepticism. "You found them? Where?"
"Scattered. Hidden. Many living as rogues or integrated into other packs, concealing their true origins." Pride colored his voice. "It took years of searching, of following whispers and rumors. But they’re out there, Lily. And they all believe in the prophecy."
"Prophecy?" I frowned. "You never mentioned any prophecy before."
Uncle Tobias stopped pacing, his expression conflicted. "I wasn’t sure you were ready. But now, it doesn’t matter whether you’re ready or not. It’s time for you to perform your responsibilities."
He moved to the window, checking outside as if concerned about eavesdroppers, then drew the blinds closed. When he turned back to me, his face was solemn.
"The prophecy was spoken by the last royal seer before the fall of Nightbane. It speaks of a time when the werewolf races would break, turning against one another, weakening us all. But it also speaks of hope—of the last royal blood who would arise to reunite our kind."
He sighed and murmured in a language that seemed strange to me but I could understand him.
"The last royal blood shall awaken with powers to see danger, reach all minds, and command others, uniting the scattered packs under one crown. She will be hunted by the Shadow Council until she either claims her rightful place on the Night of a Thousand Howls or all wolves fall to darkness."
I swallowed hard. "And you think that’s me?"
"I know it’s you," he said with absolute certainty. "The signs are unmistakable.”
"What signs?"
“You understood the old tongue Lily. Not everyone knows this language, I didn’t even tell you but you understood the prophecy that I said in the old tongue."
My head was spinning. "This is... a lot."
"I know. And there’s more." Uncle Tobias’s expression grew even more serious. "The prophecy speaks specifically of your gifts. As the last heir to the royal bloodline, you will discover abilities no other wolf possesses. Your intuition—that uncanny knack you have for sensing danger before it happens—is just the beginning."
I thought of the many times I’d changed plans or routes based on nothing more than a feeling, only to learn later that trouble had been brewing where I would have been.
"The mindlink," I whispered, naming the ability that had frightened me most—the occasional, unpredictable moments when I could hear the thoughts of other wolves, not just Kai’s. I had worried about it but since it wasn’t frequent, I tried not to think too much of it.
"Yes," Uncle Tobias nodded eagerly. "The royalty was born with the ability to connect with all wolves, not just their mates or pack members. In time, you’ll be able to access any wolf’s mindlink at will. Eventually, you might even control others through it."
The thought was terrifying rather than empowering. "I don’t want to control anyone." 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"You may not have a choice," he said grimly. "The prophecy is clear: the last royal blood will recreate the kingdom and forge peace among warring packs. Not through negotiation, but through power."
I shook my head, rejecting the responsibility being thrust upon me. "I didn’t ask for this."
"Few are asked if they wish to fulfill their destiny, little Lily." His voice softened with sympathy. "But destiny finds us anyway."
"If this prophecy is so well-known, and people are looking for the last royal blood..."
"Then they’re looking for you," Uncle Tobias confirmed, his expression grim. "Which brings me to the most pressing concern. You’re no longer safe here. If people still remember the prophecy, it means that sooner or later, the Shadow Council will come for you."
"The Shadow Council?" I repeated, the name sending an inexplicable chill down my spine.
"They were formed after the fall of Nightbane. A secret organization dedicated to ensuring the royal line never regained power." His voice dropped to a whisper. "They’re the ones who tracked down your mother. Who killed Vanessa’s mother when she tried to protect you. They’ve spent decades hunting down anyone with royal blood, extinguishing the line piece by piece. You are the last."
Fear settled in my stomach like a cold stone. "How would they find me now, after all these years?"
"The awakening of your powers creates ripples in the supernatural world—disturbances that those who know what to look for can detect. That was how I found you. Your recent trauma, the stress of the kidnapping, your bond with Kai—all of it has likely accelerated your abilities." Uncle Tobias glanced toward the window again, as if expecting assassins to burst through at any moment.
He turned back to me, his expression resolute. "Your life is no longer safe here, Lily. You need to come with me."
I stared at him, my mind reeling from everything I’d learned. The royal bloodline. The prophecy. My connection to Vanessa’s family. The Shadow Council hunting me. It was overwhelming—too much to process at once.
But one thing stood out with crystal clarity: leaving meant abandoning Kai when he needed me most.
"I can’t," I said firmly. "Not now. Not with Kai fighting this curse."
"Lily, you’re not understanding the danger," Uncle Tobias insisted. "The Shadow Council doesn’t just kill their targets—they eradicate them. They’ll come after everyone you care about. Everyone who might protect you."
Ice formed in my veins as the implication became clear. "You mean they’d target Kai? His family?"
"Without hesitation," he confirmed. "The best way to protect them is to remove yourself from their pack. You do not belong with these people, Lyla. I can rally the rest of our people scattered all over the place and we’ll try to build the ruins. I promise you, with your kind, you’d be safer.”
