Allure of a Country Maiden-Chapter 399 - 397 (Added)
Chapter 399: Chapter 397 (Added)
The night was black, the daytime’s rolling dark clouds had returned, and the sky was filled with flashing lightning and thunder.
Di Shaowei was startled awake from his bed by a sudden burst of thunder.
God! He had dreamed about the daytime scene!
Thinking about the sweet scent ingrained in his nostrils, he turned around restlessly, unable to forget.
At this moment, another flash of lightning fell outside the window, the deafening sound of thunder echoed in the air.
Di Shaowei wanted to run outside and be struck dead by the lightning! He must be going insane! Insane! Insane! ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
He threw off the blanket, rushed to the bathhouse, took a cold bath, and returned to bed. However, he tossed and turned and couldn’t fall asleep.
He always felt that there was a faint sweet scent at the tip of his nose, making him more restless.
Growing impatient, he waved his hand before his nose forcefully, trying to wave off the haunting sweet scent.
After tossing and turning for over half the night, he was unable to fall asleep.
On the second day, the sky cleared. The wet parasol tree leaves gleamed a vibrant green, and the air was far fresher than usual after the rain’s passing.
Distraught from being tortured all night, Di Shaowei breathed in the fresh air heavily, and yet again, he seemed to smell a faint sweet scent!
God! Please save me!
It’s a living nightmare!
He woke up with dark circles under his eyes and went to greet Madam Di and his mother.
"Did you have a bad sleep last night? Why are your eyes so dark?" Madam Di felt heartache seeing her grandson’s lacklustre appearance.
"Could it be that the weather was too hot for you to sleep? I’ll have more trays of ice added in later." The general’s wife pondered and then asked.
"The thunder last night was too loud." Di Shaowei sat down and then thought of the restless heat on his body as he continued, "Add more ice tonight."
"Alright!" The general’s wife nodded in agreement.
"Shaowei, your grandmother has some portraits here, take them and see if you like any?" Madam Di signaled to the maid behind her, who brought out the portraits she had carefully selected.
Her grandson had broken off the engagement with the Li family’s daughter for a while now; it was time to arrange another match for him.
Di Shaowei casually picked up a portrait and unrolled it, which revealed a woman’s image, then he understood his grandmother and his mother’s intentions.
He immediately rolled up the portrait and put it down: "Grandmother, mother, I don’t want to discuss marriage for the time being."
"Why? Are you still not over the girl from the Li family?" Madam Di wasn’t a person who would force her grandson. Seeing his attitude, she didn’t press on.
"No, I just don’t want to settle down yet! Aren’t most people around me still unmarried?"
"That’s why you should hurry up and settle down! Otherwise, all the good ladies will be chosen, and then you won’t have anyone to choose!" The general’s wife said reasonably.
"Your mother is right. The good ladies are all desired by many households. If you meet a good one, you must make a decision quickly; otherwise, someone else will step ahead."
Di Shaowei didn’t really care about these words. There are plenty of fish in the sea; if he can’t find one here, he can look elsewhere.
"That’s right, the Countess of Rui’an is a great lady that’s hard to find in a hundred miles. Do you notice that the Emperor married her to the Sixth Prince early?"
"If mother can find another lady like the Countess of Rui’an, I will agree immediately. Uh... I have something to take care of now, grandmother, mother, if you find her, tell me right away!" Di Shaowei left hurriedly after saying these words.
"This..." The general’s wife was dumbfounded!
Find another lady like the Countess of Rui’an? Where was she supposed to look? What if she couldn’t find her? Would he not marry?
She felt as if she were hitting herself in the foot with a rock.
"Could it be that Shaowei has inappropriate feelings for the Countess of Rui’an?" Madam Di frowned, then after some thought, felt that she was overthinking.
"Not at all, he is simply just making excuses to evade our request." The general’s wife was still confident about this.
"How about we start picking for him first, and then ask his opinion afterwards?" Madam Di reluctantly looked at the portraits while saying this.
As one gets older, there’s nothing to do all day long. Now that she finally found something to do, she didn’t want to give up!
"That’s good too!" The general’s wife nodded. As one gets older, they start to yearn for grandchildren. With her children growing up and not living at home all day long, having a grandchild at home to keep her company would be nice.
---
Di Shaowei found himself recently plagued by nightmares! Every night, he would be awakened by the same dream, and then, he would find it hard to fall asleep!
He invited Shangguan Xuanyi to the Four Seasons Restaurant for a drink that day.
Second floor private room
Before Shangguan Xuanyi arrived, Di Shaowei started drinking glass after glass while sitting in front of the window.
Today he had to get drunk; otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to sleep well.
Xiao’er had arranged to go shopping with Ming Jingya today. She brought Ming Jingya to a small shop selling lamb noodles and sat down.
"The noodles in this shop are very chewy, I love coming here for a small bowl every time I go shopping. It’s still early now, so not many people are here. When it’s lunchtime, people queue up to eat noodles in a long line outside the shop."
Ming Jingya nodded, glanced around the shop and commented, "Although this shop is small, it’s clean and comfortable."
"The shopkeeper is a bit obsessive-compulsive and can’t stand oiliness everywhere. So, she asks the waiter to keep everything spotlessly clean. We don’t have to worry about hygiene problems when we eat here." She had even brought Shangguan Xuanyi here, and he didn’t pick out anything either.
Xiao’er ordered two small bowls of lamb noodles. They couldn’t eat too much, there were so many delicious things, and they had to leave room in their stomachs to eat other food.
Since it wasn’t mealtime, they were the only customers, so the noodles were made quickly. The two finished their noodles and walked out.
Xiao’er planned to take Ming Jingya to a small alley to eat donkey meat buns. The donkey meat buns there were very authentic, aromatic and delicious.
Di Shaowei was drinking and watching the people coming and going on the street.
As soon as he saw Xiao’er’s figure, he noticed her. He was just about to send someone to call her over, but then he saw Ming Jingya beside her.
Feeling guilty, he quickly shrank back and closed the window immediately.
Xiao’er seemed to have sense something, she looked up, just in time to see Di Shaowei shrank back and closed the window.
He really thought she wouldn’t recognize him just by showing his head, naïve!
Why did Di Shaowei close the window?
Xiao’er looked at Ming Jingya beside her, then she remembered Jingrui saying that on the day Ming Jingya came to the Imperial Capital, it was Di Shaowei who jumped to save her when she jumped off the carriage.
She would bet her life; Di Shaowei definitely closed the window because he saw them.
Di Shaowei clearly saw Ming Jingya, so why was he hiding?
Something is not right!
She must have missed something.
