All My Professions Have Divine-Level Talents-Chapter 39: Thoughts on the Principles
’What kind of talk is that?’
’What does he mean, legends don’t lie? Legends are the ones that are *usually* lies.’
’But... I’m an outsider here. I should probably believe him first and doubt him later.’
The group looked up, staring blankly at the sky for a moment.
"Ah!"
"That’s right!"
"We should head back quickly!"
"What’s wrong? Is there danger?" Zhou Er’s sudden suggestion put Lu Cang on alert.
Night was already falling, and it was common knowledge that nighttime was more dangerous than daytime.
Zhou Er’s proposal was so abrupt it made Lu Cang feel like something bad was about to happen.
"No... It’s not that it’s dangerous."
"It’s just that today marks a transition of the Moon, making it the best day to worship Yakadikto. If we go back now... we can still make it in time to pay our respects."
’What the hell... "Pay our respects."’
’And here I thought it was something important.’
’You’re just some mortal from a backwater town. You really think a god is going to answer your prayers?’
Even someone like Lu Cang, who had only recently transmigrated, knew that gods didn’t just casually listen to any mortal’s plea.
’Otherwise, with everyone in the world praying, the gods would be worked to death.’
’Still, he has a point.’
Night was more dangerous than day, and even with the illumination from the Everlasting Lamp, Lu Cang didn’t want to needlessly expose himself to unknown threats.
Today’s quest was finished. Though his spirit was still plentiful, his body was definitely exhausted.
’As expected, a Mage’s stamina is a well-known weakness...’
’It’s time to head back.’
"Alright, let’s go back then."
The other two had been nothing but spectators during that fight.
But Lu Cang didn’t mind the small fee, a total of 2 gold coins, to have them along.
They were like a safety rope. It could go its whole life without being used—and it was better if it was never needed.
But you absolutely couldn’t afford not to have one.
’However...’
Lu Cang glanced at Gaidun and Ji Di.
’The old man is useful enough as a Gatherer, but for roles like a healer and a Defender, Level 2 is just too low.’
’It would be safer to hire Level 3s.’
’Especially a Level 3 Defender. I need someone who can block sudden attacks that I can’t react to in time.’
’As long as I have a moment to react, my barriers and Heavy Wall can absorb the damage.’
’But after seeing her performance, I really doubt she could react fast enough.’
’Then again, a Level 3 Adventurer probably won’t come at this price.’
...
「Back in Raine Town.」
The total quest reward was 4 gold coins; the three Tier Two Lords yielded 2 gold and 20 silver coins.
The Tier Three Lord yielded 1 gold and 80 silver coins, bringing the total to exactly 4 gold coins.
Lu Cang gave them 2 gold coins to split among themselves. His own net profit for the day was 31 gold coins.
The bulk of his earnings had come from what he harvested from the corpses.
His payment to them for the day totaled 2 gold and 60 silver coins.
For them, it was equivalent to earning nearly 1 gold coin for a day’s work with zero risk.
After receiving their payment, they expressed their gratitude to Lu Cang.
They also showered Little Lu Cang with praise, calling him a young genius who would surely make a name for himself in the world, and so on and so forth.
After the payment was settled,
Each of them approached one of the blank Divine Statues set up in the Guild and tossed in a Silver Coin—a precious sum for them.
Facing the Divine Statues, they prayed with devout expressions.
’Oh?’
’They’re willing to part with it just like that?’
’If this is how it works, the Adventurer’s Guild must be making a killing...’
’Just collecting all the Silver Coins from the altars every day.’
Lu Cang couldn’t help but have the thought.
However, a second later, Lu Cang immediately took back that thought.
He watched as the Silver Coins on the pedestals of the Divine Statues began to bubble and evaporate, vanishing like water boiling dry.
The corner of Lu Cang’s mouth twitched. He looked up at the sky.
’Huh?’
’Hey—’
’This god is a little outrageous, isn’t it?’
’You’re really taking their money?’
’You’re not going to actually do something in return, are you? You’d damn well better do something!’
...
After being out on a quest the entire day, his body was dead tired.
Lu Cang returned to the inn to take a bath.
He stripped off his clothes and stood before a mirror.
’My height... I think I’ve gotten a little taller... Come to think of it, I could see a full head over the counter when I was on my tiptoes today.’
’I’ve definitely grown, haven’t I?’ 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
’Do children in this world really grow this fast?’
Lu Cang examined his body. While his muscles weren’t sharply defined, he had definitely put on some muscle mass.
He flexed his bicep and squeezed it. Hard as a rock.
He had some abs and pecs now, too.
’My body has definitely gotten stronger.’
After all, this world wasn’t like a game with visible stat values. Lu Cang could only gauge his own progress through these physical changes.
’My Magic Power is strong, but my body is pathetically weak.’
Although his body had gotten a bit stronger, it paled in comparison to his progress as a Mage.
’If I could, I’d really like to change my Profession to Warrior.’
’But Kumironi isn’t here right now.’
’The post-advancement corruption is too dangerous for me.’
’I can’t always rely on Kumironi. I can’t depend on others to advance forever.’
’I have to find a way to remove the corruption on my own.’
’Sigh... why did I have to transmigrate into a child’s body?’
’If I were sixteen, things would be so much easier.’
Lu Cang lamented these thoughts to himself as he bathed.
His body was exhausted from the day’s activities, so Lu Cang used the stretching method Chi Cheng had taught him to relieve his muscle fatigue. This would prevent him from being sore all over tomorrow, which could affect his fighting.
The people Lu Cang interacted with most were Kumironi and Iz.
After them, it was Chi Cheng.
As for "Stone," Lu Cang had barely seen him more than a handful of times.
He practically never saw a trace of him from morning till night, to the point he didn’t even know if Stone was staying at the inn.
But when they did happen to cross paths, he would give a nod of greeting.
Occasionally, he even liked to tell Lu Cang a bad joke.
’Hmm...’
Aside from that, Lu Cang knew nothing else about Obades.
He’d heard from Chi Cheng that whenever Izparut and the others weren’t around, Obades would be his combat partner.
’Makes sense when you think about it...’
’Seriously, Chi Cheng, if even Obades wouldn’t fight with you, you’d really be soloing everything.’
The relaxation technique Chi Cheng had taught Lu Cang was actually quite useful.
He’d heard that Combat Skills in this world were divided into various different streams. To learn Combat Skills, one usually had to major in an established "stream" and supplement it with other auxiliary Combat Skills
in order to build a unique personal combat system.
Of course, it wasn’t that one could only learn a single stream. It was just that, like Magic, streams of Combat Skills required long years of arduous training.
Learning too many meant biting off more than you could chew.
And the relaxation technique Lu Cang was currently using was the "Living Body Form," which Fearless had said was from the Invincible Stream he had created himself.
’The Invincible Stream...’
’He’s got some serious nerve, calling it that.’
’But thinking about it, both Iz and Chi Cheng seem to love creating their own Skills and streams.’
’Iz apparently created Magic Void back when he was only Level 1.’
’And Chi Cheng created the Invincible Stream.’
’Maybe I should start looking into creating my own Skills, too.’
Iz’s teachings flashed through Lu Cang’s mind.
"The advancement Ritual is a testament to how you uphold the principles of your Profession..."
"While you learn, you must also think for yourself."
’Upholding the principles, huh?’
’It’s probably like the college entrance exams. For a normal person, taking the test and getting a score is part of the process.’
’But for some absurd genius who can publish in a top-tier journal or win a Nobel Prize while still in high school... their exam score becomes completely irrelevant.’
’In other words,’
’it’s not about getting a perfect score on the tests during the advancement Ritual.’
’What’s important is... an exceptional performance that demonstrates you are upholding the principles.’
’But then, does Beyond Magic count as my own creation?’
’It came from my Talent, sure, but I’m also the world’s first Owner of Beyond Magic. That has to count for something, right?’
