Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Cyan Mist Breathing Technique

The outcome of the battle was unsurprising.

A dozen or so breaths later, a blast of acid from Pei Ze corroded the black-robed man’s Fighting Qi Shield, after which the Fog Crows tore him to pieces.

With the battle over, Pei Ze let out a long sigh of relief.

It might have looked like he had easily dispatched all his enemies, but in reality, there had been several close calls.

If Wuyu hadn’t warned him at the beginning, he never would have had time to dodge the arrow from the sneak attack.

If the ambush had succeeded, he would have been unharmed thanks to his Protective Ring, but he would have inevitably been caught in a coordinated assault by the four Grand Knights.

Once he lost the initiative, winning the battle unscathed as he had just done would have been difficult.

Thinking of this, Pei Ze smiled and stroked Wuyu’s head, praising, "Nice work, little guy."

Wuyu let out a reserved cry, then lowered its head to preen its feathers, which had been ruffled in the fight.

The four Grand Knights were quite strong; over four hundred Fog Crows had perished in this battle.

But it didn’t matter. The transformed Fog Crows were no longer living beings in the conventional sense. Even if they died, they could reform within Wuyu; it just took time.

After composing himself, Pei Ze walked over to the black-robed man’s corpse, squatted down, and began to search it carefully.

After a battle, it was naturally time to loot the bodies.

These guys were clearly repeat offenders. Who knows how many people they’d robbed coming out of the Black Market. Their assets were probably substantial.

And just as Pei Ze had guessed, he soon found a dimensional bag on the black-robed man.

Unlike other Magic Items, dimensional bags didn’t have high requirements for Spiritual Power.

They were one of the few Magic Items that even First-level Wizard Apprentices and Knights could use.

Pei Ze opened the dimensional bag and took a look, his eyes instantly lighting up. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Gold Coins!

So many Gold Coins!

A quick glance suggested there were no less than ten thousand, filling up more than half the dimensional bag’s space.

There were also dozens of potions—most of which were the Ferocity Potions they had just bought from him—as well as a few books and a shield.

Pei Ze didn’t look closely. He put away the dimensional bag and continued searching the other bodies.

Unfortunately, the loot from the other four men, including the archer, added up to only a hundred or so Gold Coins and a few potions. It was hard to say if they had stored everything with the black-robed man.

After collecting all the spoils, Pei Ze didn’t linger and immediately left the scene.

The fight had lasted for a while and caused quite a commotion. The City Guard Army would probably arrive soon.

Although he was the victim of an ambush and had killed in self-defense, he had just come from the Black Market. Getting entangled with the City Guard Army would be a hassle, so it was better to avoid any unnecessary complications.

...

Back at his apartment, Pei Ze first used Energy Particles to clean himself from head to toe, changed into fresh clothes, and then sat down on the living room sofa to take stock of his spoils.

The largest quantity was of Gold Coins, totaling over twelve thousand four hundred.

The glittering golden coins formed a small mountain on the carpet, reflecting a delightful, brilliant gleam in the moonlight shining through the window.

So many Gold Coins would be enough to cover his expenses for a long time.

Pei Ze glanced at Wuyu on his shoulder. Wuyu deserved the most credit for defeating the ambushers, so he decided to use this money to upgrade its meals, switching from Magic Pet Food to Magic Stone Coins.

"You’re in for a treat, little guy," Pei Ze said with a smile, stroking Wuyu’s head.

The little creature chirped and flapped its wings.

Pei Ze smiled and continued to take stock.

Besides the Gold Coins, the next most numerous items were the potions.

There were over eighty bottles in total. Aside from the Ferocity Potions, there were also more than ten bottles of antidote and stamina potions.

This batch of potions alone was worth eight or nine thousand Gold Coins!

Pei Ze couldn’t help but marvel to himself.

’What nice guys, buying my potions and then making a special trip to return them to me.’

Aside from the potions and Gold Coins, most of what remained were clothes and other miscellaneous items. Pei Ze tossed them all aside to be dealt with later and then turned his attention to the only things left: three books and a shield.

The three books were titled *Cyan Mist Breathing Technique*, *Gale Slash*, and *Sudden Flash*.

Pei Ze opened *Cyan Mist Breathing Technique* and began to skim through it.

Breathing techniques were the Cultivation Techniques of Knights.

Sword-Bearing Attendants tempered their bodies, and once their constitution reached a certain level, they could begin practicing a Cultivation Breathing Technique. Upon successful initiation, they could advance to become an Apprentice Knight.

Once an Apprentice Knight succeeded in their Cultivation Breathing Technique and condensed a Life Seed, they could advance to become a Knight.

Like Magic, breathing techniques were also divided into different tiers.

The higher the tier of the breathing technique, the more efficient it was at tempering the body, and the easier it was to condense a Life Seed.

The simplest way to judge the tier of a breathing technique was to see if it had any accompanying combat techniques, and how many.

Low-tier breathing techniques generally had no accompanying combat techniques.

Mid-tier breathing techniques had one accompanying combat technique.

High-tier Breathing Techniques had multiple accompanying combat techniques.

Since both *Gale Slash* and *Sudden Flash* were accompanying combat techniques for the *Cyan Mist Breathing Technique*, it meant this was a High-tier Breathing Technique.

’A High-tier Breathing Technique...’

Pei Ze gently rubbed the book’s cover, a thoughtful look in his eyes.

In about three more days, the modifications to his Sleep Spell would be complete.

At that time, a task slot would open up in the Eye of Omniscience.

And since he didn’t plan to continue modifying other Zero-Circle Magic, he could use the slot to analyze a breathing technique.

To an Official Wizard, breathing techniques were of negligible use. After all, Wizards had plenty of ways to strengthen their physical bodies and had no need to painstakingly practice a Cultivation Breathing Technique.

But it was different for Wizard Apprentices.

Wizard Apprentices had relatively few combat methods and were particularly weak in close-quarters defense.

This was especially true for Wizard Apprentices without Defensive Magical Items; if an enemy got close, the consequences would be dire.

Therefore, many apprentices chose to also practice a breathing technique after advancing to Second-level Wizard Apprentice to enhance their close-combat capabilities.

Using combat techniques in conjunction with Energy Particles could produce remarkable combat power.

Moreover, there was another benefit for Second-level Wizard Apprentices who practiced breathing techniques.

Their bodies had already reached the level of a Knight, and this powerful physique allowed them to get twice the results with half the effort when practicing a Cultivation Breathing Technique, making it easier to condense a Life Seed.

’Practicing a Cultivation Breathing Technique is a good idea. Every little bit I can increase my constitution attribute helps.’

After a moment of contemplation, Pei Ze quickly made his decision.

’If I can advance to Grand Knight and learn to project my Fighting Qi, I’ll have another layer of defense.’

In a battle like tonight’s, if he had the physique of a Grand Knight and had mastered the Fighting Qi Shield, he could have taken down those four Grand Knights single-handedly without any help from Wuyu!

’An empty task slot is a waste anyway.’

"Omniscience, analyze the Cyan Mist Breathing Technique."

[Task created. Beginning analysis of Cyan Mist Breathing Technique. Estimated time: 12 hours.]

Pei Ze raised an eyebrow. ’That’s pretty fast.’

After a moment’s thought, he paused the modification task for the Sleep Spell, deciding to analyze the Cyan Mist Breathing Technique first.

Having done that, Pei Ze turned to the last item, the shield.

The shield was only about the size of two palms, triangular in shape, and looked extremely small and exquisite.

He picked it up gently. It felt very light, almost weightless.

The surface of the shield was very cool, and it felt smooth and slick to the touch.

A normal shield could never be made so light and small. Clearly, this was a piece of Enchanted Equipment.

Pei Ze pressed his entire left palm against the shield’s surface, focused his mind, and slowly immersed his Spirit into it.

The next second, a message suddenly appeared in his mind.

[Please set a command word.]

Pei Ze was stunned for a moment, then his eyes lit up.

Only semi-intelligent or intelligent Magic Items required a command word to be set for activation.

And such Magic Items were often extremely valuable.

’I can’t believe the black-robed man had something this good on him!’

’He probably robbed it from some unlucky, wealthy Wizard Apprentice.’

Pei Ze caressed the shield, thought for a moment, and whispered:

"Xiaolove."

The instant he spoke the word, the triangular shield suddenly levitated, rotating slowly in the air with a faint silver glow.

Watching this scene unfold, Pei Ze’s heart pounded with excitement.

He already knew what this was.

An Active Shield!
