Althea set Limestone Valley to attack a village west of Voumi for the next round of wars.
Since Voumi—er, Ceramica—was now a subsidiary, they did not have to assault its subsidiaries anymore, either, for the most part anyway. This was done manually because territories, unless they were satellites, were treated independently.
An ally of a territory didn’t necessarily mean they were an ally to an allied territory as well, after all.
However, since Ceramica was completely under their control, most of Voumi’s associated territories were also obedient. For one, they obediently returned every Terran they had, without pay.
Many grumbled a lot, but what could they do? They were sandwiched between two towns!
As for the punishment of those who harmed Terrans, it was still up for debate. Many of these people were not good people, but it was also debatable if they were going to act like the messengers of justice, belatedly punishing people for hurting their people, especially when they were willing to return the Terrans who had survived.
In the end, the Elders decided it was too overreaching. Rescuing from war was one thing, but technically, these subsidiaries had already surrendered. They also didn’t want to act so vindictively as a group, as they did not believe Terrans as a race were different or superior to others. Rather, it was a dangerous thought to let simmer.
However, they did not stop the Terrans in doing their own revenge for the suffering that happened to them, punishing the people who wronged them personally, as long as they did not do it in the name of a race or a territory.
This was something for later, of course. For now, the newly rescued Terrans were focusing on recovery, and then they would shift to finding friends and family, all of which was made convenient by the alliance’s infrastructure.
They were also making these newly-surrendered aborigines search for the people they sold Elementalists to. They had probably lost hundreds in the span of the past month in this area, which was unavoidable as Alterra could not be omnipresent. Still, they hoped to at least trace the location of a portion.
The original Terran territories taken over by Voumi and their subsidiaries had also been returned. This was the same case with Flaret Town, which had taken over a number of territories North of Alterra at the peak of its wealth.
They really never found the drug scientist, though. It was amazing how she escaped. They reckoned she used the array somehow. They found traces of another version of a beast repellent in her laboratory. Although not as pure or effective as Althea’s, and definitely not the collaboration with Hoffen, it was still effective enough for them to believe she could’ve survived.
The territory they were attacking was a subsidiary West of the former Voumi. Despite all the alliances created this past several months, there was no lack of other villages that had harassed Terran territories that still weren’t part of the alliance.
Alterra was definitely not above attacking the same territory a few times, since there weren’t as many options anymore.
Anyway, since the satellite had gone to war, Alterra was once again safe from war for a bit. The husband and wife used the time to train Althea, though Garan’s progress had been slow.
Garan had entered a slump. Althea had finally reached the peak of Level 19, while Garan had remained at Level 31 for months now.
Unlike Althea, Garan had the advantage of spending a lot more time training, though in his case, he had to use the Hall more, as there weren’t that many monsters past level 28 around towns, definitely not enough to gather enough experience points.
Sometimes they try the training hall, but mostly they train outside the territory. This was because the monsters she’d encounter were the types around Alterra, so she made sure to master what she could.
The Training Hall could summon level 30 at most, and like Althea, he could not gain any experience from fighting beings 2 levels below him.
Eventually, he may no longer be able to level up again if he remained in a Town, but for now, they had to elevate the overall level of their home.
When the immediate threats like Valov Town had been dealt with—or they were at least certain enough that they wouldn’t attack—only then would he be able to focus on his own cultivation.
They knew for a fact that Valov had been trying to attack, and had been doing so for a while now. If they hadn’t been consistent with the satellites attacking others, they might’ve gone to war against Valov by now.
They knew this because they already had people there, including Rin and a few others. They lived as normal people who did not know each other.
After staying there for a while, everyone knew that Valov had always been in the state of preparing for war.
It was just that it never pushed through, and the only explanation was that the territory they were planning to attack was always suddenly unavailable, having gone to war in the timeframe. After so many rounds and batches, only Alterra fit the description.
The letters naturally couldn’t be sent directly to Alterra. One spy would send letters to Voumi, another to Flaret, and all in codes, and seemingly just them talking to family or friends.
Anyway, it was clear that Valov Town was hostile, just waiting for their chance, so there was no way for Garan to go too far out to hunt for monsters at his level.
For now, all they could do was to delay the inevitable and prepare themselves as thoroughly as they could. After all, Valov was undoubtedly the greatest immediate threat to them right now.
