Chapter 1877: First Cartoon!

The Department of Information and Public Ethics was implementing new regulations regarding the rapidly growing novel-writing industry. The more it developed, the more...variety naturally popped up.

They were now tracking a very well-known author named ’Hansore’, famous for writing very... explicit erotica novels. Writing mature content wasn’t illegal per se, but they had to issue warnings to ensure that the works were properly tagged plus sold through appropriate channels.

Well, that was something still ongoing.

Back to the mall, the selection of establishments in the malls here was similar to that in Terran. There were mostly restaurants, snack stores, leisure establishments, stores, groceries, pharmacies, and so on. There were also clinics.

One of the new ones was...the cinemas! Like legitimate projection ones. The current technology was still a baby, though. Technically speaking, it should be one of the easier projects. After all, one just needed several metals plus alloys, quicklime, and other things already available in Alterra.

There were just more priority projects.

For now, this would do. They were using the old school plates and projecting light behind them. It was ultra retro and none of the Terrans were actually alive when this was popular.

The three old men and the old women, though, had even seen one or two such formats before they became completely obsolete in Terran.

They were all together going around this time. "I have to admit I’m quite proud," Old Al said. "The one good thing my deadbeat actor father was used for."

"Oh’ cmon..."

The group of old people walked at their own pace, which was very slow. Many others brisked walk to overtake them, though amusingly many still turned back a little to greet them before heading to their destinations.

In Alterra, old people (as long as they were reasonable) were treated like they were precious, much like children.

They would always be the priority in normal queues, and many people acted as if they were their kind grandchildren.

Old Bones even tried handing some ’pocket money’. Some took advantage and continuously sought after them, but most refused the money.

When there was trouble, many would look at them first, as if checking if they were okay and if they needed any help in moving.

It was why they wanted to contribute more, and one of the things they could do was this cinema.

Such joy. How could they let the kids miss them?

....

Today, most of the Ross family met up after work. Gwen was spending it with her mother as well as her brother and his family.

They had reserved tickets, so they were watching today. A pity that her Ryan couldn’t come as he was currently part of the scouting and reconnaissance team this week.

Anyway, the family sat down on their seats with popcorn on hand, a bit of an excited hearts.

It was a drawn movie (which was just easier to do considering their current technology).

The movie was a fun family movie called ’Finding Family’, with the setting written to match the sensibilities of generations that’d be born in Alterra.

Adorably, it was about a half-orc who had left the orc village in search of his mother, who ran away, all the way back to the human area.

The young half-orc had to go on dangerous adventures, fighting against monsters and slave traders, but also betrayals from a fellow half-orc he met along the way.

He also met good friends, life-and-death companions, so even when his mother did not want to accept him, which was heartbreaking, he managed to move on and live his own dazzling life.

There was a lot of pain involved, but there was also a lot of good and growth.

It showed a lot about the realities and what to expect, though naturally sanitized to be PG-rated.

It was a story of familial love, forgiveness, and resilience, and they hoped to teach lessons to children and adults alike that even if the world might seem difficult, you could find your people.

These people did not have to be blood-related either. Families could be formed and maintained through one’s own effort.

Similarly, those with blood ties should not take family for granted. Kindness and love were an ongoing effort.

Some people were just not meant to be together due to various circumstances, and that was completely okay.

The cartoon was also presented in a way that would avoid common pitfalls and create biases.

For example, in both the human and orc areas, there were good and bad people. They showed that being good or bad had nothing to do with race, and everything to do with one’s choices.

There were good humans and bad humans, there were evil orcs, but there were also lovely orcs. Each characters were well fleshed out, and people felt something for all of them, though the type and intensity of emotions naturally varied.

The execution and writing were very good, and everyone had shed at least a tear or two before the movie ended.

Gochi and Mao would be here after working hours, with several people recommending them to go watch the movie earlier that day. A few people actually bought them tickets.

They didn’t say what it was about and they were totally not expecting it.

When they watched the movie, they were shocked. It was so well-made, and the story was touching. It was something people would remember for a long time. Even if they forgot the details, they would remember the emotions involved.

And such a production...they chose a half-orc to be the main character!

What an honor to be represented like this!

Going out of the theater...they vaguely remembered some children saying they wanted a half-orc friend...

They remembered that just three years ago, children would look at them with deep disgust, as if they were viruses that should not have existed at all...

Mao sniffled, snuggling into Gochi’s arm, and he patted her back gently.

"I am so glad we found this place."
