Eagle headed straight to the wall, using the trees and his ability to quickly go over it. He didn't have much mana left after this, but fortunately his team was hiding where he told them to.

"Eagle! Chris!" Tambai yelled when they saw him.

Eagle shook his head at them. "No time for small talk. Let's go!"

"Ah, do you still have some mana potion? Give me some."

Tanod nodded. He hadn't needed to use much even if he had stayed here for a long time.

After Eagle gulped down a mana potion (and chewed on a few more mana cookies), the group rushed through the streets, taking advantage of the chaos that was ongoing already between the two sides. It was at an all time high, in fact.

Now that the Lord had fallen, there would be a reshuffling of powers in the territory. Because the war wasn't officially over yet, anyone could still get the token, so some forces thought they had a chance, thinking the others were stretched thin because of the war.

As for others… they saw the chaos and took advantage. Because most of the strongmen were gone… some of the weaker tier people left behind in the territory decided it was their time to shine.

So… the streets were understandably chaotic with people slashing away, stealing things from stores and other people, and so on.

"The nearest section of the wall is only a few hundred meters away," Eagle said. "I have a ladder in my space, we can use it to climb out."

Their ladder was also especially designed for stability and retractability. It even had some spring and rubber mechanisms. It was much better than what Fargo introduced to Basset Town, though they understandably didn't have a lot of sets because they were never the aggressive territory after the first war.

"Got it."

They rushed through the crowds, covering each others' backs.

A group of people below level 20 spotted their group and decided to hunt them down. Many of them were archers who started shooting away.

Eagle's group was fast and sometimes did zigzag maneuvers to confuse the enemies. They also had no qualms about hiding behind some random locals who were taking advantage of the chaos and who just happened to be in their way.

When they were surrounded, they'd slow down or burst speed, timing it in a way that some of the enemies even hit each other.

However, they were still surrounded in the end and it was inevitable for them to get hit. They could feel their protection charms cracking bit by bit.

This was especially true for Eagle, whose protection charm had already broken. He also felt Chris' was about to succumb, and he'd have to cover for him.

The locals grinned when they saw blood and were about to attack again. "Finally got you—"

One of the hunters said, showing off those ugly yellow teeth of his. He jumped up, ready to stab Eagle to death. However, when he was just a meter away a spark of light appeared from a direction.

Whoosh!!

It went through the level 20's mouth, killing him with one shot. When he landed, his head seemed to have burned to a crisp.

"WHA—"

The other fighters, seeing that this was not an easy team to deal with as they thought, ran away and went to find an easier fight elsewhere.

That mysterious prisoner emerged from an alley, he was still messy from being tortured but being outside prison allowed him to regain his strength and charm.

Eagle blinked. "Thank you."

"Well, you're lucky I wanted to kill someone," the redhead said, shrugging. They nodded and Tambai even handed him a gauze.

His eyebrows rose, looking at the group interestedly. He then looked at the still-unconscious Chris.

They were doing everything to help out that man lacking a leg and—to him—was already a waste of space. In his Home City, they'd have euthanized a person like this.

"My name is Virion," the man said, as if he didn't just casually laser beamed a man to death. "Where are you going?"

"Home," Eagle said, gently placing Chris on his back again.

"I'd have loved to come with you to see what kind of place people like you live in," he paused, looking at Eagle and at Chris, knowing they were not aborigines. "Sadly there's much I need to do. Where are you from?"

Eagle thought for a moment but decided to say it in the end. "...Alterra," he said. Despite the guy's volatility, he didn't seem like a bad guy.

"I'll remember it," Virion said, and turned, walking away as if he didn't just escape prison.

The group soon reached the wall and, while Tanod took Chris, Eagle set up the retractable stair. It could extend to five meters, which was more than enough for Basset Town's outer walls.

It looked plain, but it was actually a special design by the Research Center. It was made of strong but lightweight durable rope made of various materials they weren't privy too. It took a tiny space in their spaces, and they were easy to throw above a five-meter wall especially with an elemental ability.

The group climbed up one by one, with Tanod and Tambai guarding their backs in case some people found them and attacked.

Well, some people did find them.

"Wait!"

Unexpectedly, it was two young boys who found them. Eagle's eyebrows rose as he looked at the kids. There were two of them, both relatively thin but one worse than the other.

He recognized them as the kids from Bentro's 'treasure room'.

They were malnourished, bruised, and weak, but their eyes were sharp. "Let us come with you!"

"What?" freewebnσvel.cøm

"Please! We'll do anything—"

Eagle was one of the last people to climb before Tambay and Tanod. He looked at the kids with narrowed eyes. "We won't protect you," he said. He literally had his hands full!

This didn't seem to have discouraged the kids though. "It's fine! Just let us follow you!"

"We're used to this!"

"Whatever," Eagle said, knowing they had no time to chatter like this. When he saw the ladder was already cleared, he made sure Chris was hanging on him well, and he started climbing up.

After him, it was the two kids, and finally the beggar siblings.

The children had no idea they had found the best people to attach themselves to.
