After Rebirth, the Celebrity Daughter is the Medical Expert!-Chapter 227 - 153: Alright, I’ll Come
It started to rain outside the window that morning.
Ning Youguang got up and went downstairs, finding her grandfather sitting on the sofa, puffed up with anger.
She tiptoed over and sat down next to her aunt.
"What’s wrong with Grandpa?" she asked softly.
Xie Haitang, quietly sipping her morning tea on the sofa, pursed her lips, smiled without saying anything, and just glanced to the side.
Following her gaze, Ning Youguang saw a big black cat curled up in a ball with its head buried away, on the corner cabinet not far away.
"Did Xiaoxiao cause trouble?" she continued to ask softly.
"Early this morning, it broke one of your grandfather’s cherished antique vases," Xie Haitang said softly.
Ning Youguang sneaked a glance at her grandfather, "No wonder he’s so angry."
Xie Haitang nodded, "Yes, he was just about to explode, even threatening to give it a good beating."
Xia Rong, sitting not far from them, glared as he adjusted his emotions and of course, overheard the conversation between his daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
He took a deep breath, "But I can’t, because it’s a cat, it’s a cat..." After a long pause, he held his heart: "It doesn’t know the value of antiques. My biggest mistake was putting the vase where it could break it. The vase is already broken, so besides minimizing losses, can I really beat it up, send it to the hospital, or get myself worked up to the point of a stomachache or heart attack? Wouldn’t that be more foolish? I’m not that stupid."
He got up, Ning Youguang prepared to help him.
He waved off her offer, "I’m going to the study to practice calligraphy."
...
After Xia Rong left.
Xie Haitang said to Ning Youguang, "Grandpa will probably calm down after he’s finished writing."
Seeing her aunt’s usual demeanor, Ning Youguang breathed a slight sigh of relief, "Does Xiaoxiao often cause trouble at home?"
"Certainly, it has broken quite a few antique vases at home," Xie Haitang recalled the destruction Xiaoxiao has caused over the years.
Ning Youguang felt a deep headache, rubbing her temples, "Isn’t that a huge loss?"
Xie Haitang took a clean cup from the tea tray and poured her some tea, "Well, after breaking several, we put away all the antique vases at home. Now, the ones displayed in the house are all ordinary porcelain."
"What about the one Xiaoxiao broke today?" Ning Youguang asked curiously.
"Grandpa took it out from the cabinet last night to admire, left it on the table, and forgot to put it back, so Xiaoxiao broke another one," Xie Haitang explained with a chuckle.
Unable to resist taking it out to admire it even when stored away, how much does he like it?!
Ning Youguang felt a bit unwell, "I definitely have to reason with it properly today!"
She then got up and walked to the corner table to pick up the big coal-like ball that had its head buried.
...
Xiaoxiao was already a middle-aged cat, usually too well-fed, plump and lazy, akin to a middle-aged salted fish cat.
After Ning Youguang carried it to the room and put it on the duvet, she lay on the bed and started poking its head, reasoning with it.
Its attitude was very good; wherever Ning Youguang placed it, it stayed still and listened to her scolding.
Years of pampering have given it a tremendous sense of security, and its temper has become quite gentle.
Whenever Ning Youguang spoke to it, it looked at her with glowing green eyes, occasionally licking its fur.
So soft.
Ning Youguang was utterly defeated by its demeanor and could only grit her teeth and say, "I’ll let your dad discipline you."
...
The phone rang as Shi Wangyue was catching up on sleep.
He hated rainy days so much that whenever it rained, he couldn’t help but feel depressed, as the dark clouds overhead and the sound of raindrops pounding on the ground made him feel like he was being swallowed by darkness, unable to prevent a suffocating sense of gloom.
Thus, waking up in the middle of the night and unable to sleep, he simply got up and focused on completing all of today’s tasks in one go.
Once finished, he ate breakfast.
The aunt downstairs came up to remind him about breakfast, but he had no appetite.
He dismissively sent her away and went to bed, covering his head to nap.
This morning, the sound of rain pelting against the window filled his ears, making it hard for him to sleep well, difficult to fall asleep at first, then dreaming in a hazy state after falling asleep.
In the dream.
He kept falling, falling down further into a pitch-black abyss, falling for a long time, yet below was a bottomless chasm he could never reach.
Finally, he managed with some skill, clinging on the abyss’s edge to stand firm, climbing back up step by step.
However, no matter how hard he climbed upward, there was always an unknown force pushing him into the abyss.
This nap left him tired and breathless.
When the phone rang, he suddenly opened his eyes, realizing it was all a nightmare.
Not wanting the person on the call to see him in disarray upon awakening from the nightmare, he switched from a video call to a voice call.
"Little Wangyue." A warm, gentle voice came from Ning Youguang on the phone.
His heart instantly eased.
"Youyou." His voice was deep and hoarse.
"Were you sleeping?" Ning Youguang asked, surprised.
"Catching up on sleep, just woke up," he said gently.
"Sorry for disturbing you." Ning Youguang’s soft voice carried a trace of guilt.
"No worries, is there anything you need?" he asked lightly.
Ning Youguang relayed how Xiaoxiao broke the antique vase early in the morning, along with stories of Xiaoxiao’s notorious deeds at home shared by her aunt, all to Shi Wangyue.
Shi Wangyue leaned against the pillow, patiently listening to her talk on and on, and suddenly felt the rain sounds around him fade away.
At that moment, his world was filled only with the voice of the person on the other end of the phone.
"I can’t handle it anymore, I can’t get through to your son; when you’re free, come over," Ning Youguang concluded.
Hearing "son," Shi Wangyue’s breath caught, then chuckled, "Alright, I’ll come." 1314
