After Rebirth, I Took Revenge On My Scumbag Ex-Alpha Mate!-Chapter 13: Heartbreak and Bitter Torture!
DARREN
"Your woman?" Moira repeated and I nodded in response, affirming her thoughts. That was probably the last thing she ever thought she’d hear me say but here we are.
"Yes, she’s my woman." I answered, glancing over at Kalia’s small frame briefly before tilting my head back up to face Moira. "And she’ll be staying here with me tonight."
Well, she wanted to get married to me and pulled all the stops to achieve it so it’s best that she starts getting used to it if she wants people to buy our story eventually.
"It’s a pleasure to have you here, My Lady." Moira, said with a welcoming smile on her face and Kalia nodded at her kind gesture.
"Darren, is your mother aware that you’ve changed your mind about leaving the country and has decided to stay back?" She asked and I shook my head negatively.
"Because I had told her that you would be joining her soon over there."
"She isn’t but I’ll inform her when I’m settled so that she doesn’t worry." I assured her and she nodded her head in understanding.
"Um Moira, please take Kalia upstairs and help her settle in for the night would you? We’ve both had a long, dreadful day." I requested and she nodded in response.
"Of course. This way My Lady." I handed her over to Moira and encouraged her to go on with her because she looked a little scared to follow.
"Let’s get you cleaned up so that you can have dinner." I overheard Moira saying to her as she led her into the mansion.
Just then, my ears picked up the sound of Charles making his way into the mansion.
I slowly yet diligently made my way down the flight of stairs to meet him halfway because I could sense that he was already exhausted running up to meet me.
"Did you manage to drop it off like I told you to?" I asked and he nodded his head in response. "Hope you didn’t encounter any problems from her family?"
"I did." He answered. "At first they threw a huge fit and had a huge disagreement. They didn’t believe that you sent me until they saw her car and with the way they reacted, she might be in for a lot of questioning whenever she goes back home.
"They didn’t take the news of her spending the night at your place lightly, Sir." He informed me. Even though his voice was calm, I could pick up the hint of dread registered in them.
I let out a deep breath. "Well they don’t have a choice because like it or not, that woman is already stuck with me now."
I already knew what I was getting myself into before deciding to join forces with her. The battle line has already been drawn and I know that it won’t be easy from this point moving forward.
"Here..." I handed the keys to my car over to him for safekeeping. "Make sure to handle the rest over here. Thank you, Charles."
I walked back inside and met Moira who I suspected was rushing out to meet me. "Is everything okay? You look excited for some reason and it’s weird."
"She’s very beautiful and soft-hearted. She’s perfect for you." She announced and I snorted a short laugh.
"How can you tell? You’ve only just met her not too long ago ago."
She shrugged, "You don’t need to know someone long enough before you can tell their personality. I just know." She was quick to add.
Then, she leaned in closer, bridging the gap between us.
"She’s the one right?" She whispered in a low voice. "She’s the woman that you promised to bring back home whenever you were ready, is she not? That’s why you addressed her as your woman right?"
"You’re quite nosy for your age, Moira." I brushed her off jokingly as I tried to avoid her gaze. "I’m definitely not answering that question and you know it."
"Of course you aren’t. You never do." She twitched her lips and hit me playfully on the arm. "You give me a little gleam of hope and then you snatch it away before I even get a chance to savour it."
I chuckled at her words. Trust Moira to be dramatic about the littlest things and she will deliver.
"I really hope that she’s the one to put you out of your misery so that you won’t have to suffer through this heartbreak and bitter torture anymore my child." She said with an empathetic look on her face.
"You’ve been through so much already and it wouldn’t be fair for you to go through that painful ordeal for the seventh time." She whispered and touched my face affectionately.
I forced a smile because I can’t afford to be bothered about a fate that I can’t change so I have learnt to live with it. I didn’t want anyone’s life getting miserable because of me.
"Now go freshen up while I set up the dinner table for both of you." She said.
"Alright." I answered and watched her walk away from my presence before running up the flight of stairs that led to my bedroom.
I’m glad that Moira always looked out for me like her own son but I’m also genuinely worried about how she would feel when she finds out the real relationship between Kalia and I.
The woman whom she considers my saviour to pull me straight out of this hell that I was born in, was not really mine but my half brother’s ex fiancé. Everything felt too complicated at this point.
What’s worse is facing my family and my mother going forward. It’s going to be brutal.
I arrived at my room and twisted the doorknob open.
I stepped in and just as I did, Kalia also walked out of the bathroom at the exact same time with nothing but a towel neatly wrapped around her chest stopping just above her knees exposing her thighs slightly.
"Shit!" I muttered and she clutched onto the towel tightly as though as life depended on it. I quickly turned around to the opposite direction. I thought that Moira had taken her to the guest room.
Why would she when I’ve already blabbed about Kalia being my woman to her? This was all my fault.
"I had no idea that you were here. You can finish up and I’ll come back later when you’re done. I’m so sorry." I apologized and hurriedly excused myself.
Why didn’t Moira tell me that she was in my bedroom of all places? Gosh! Just what in the world have I gotten myself into now?
