After Rebirth, I Married the Great Demon King-Chapter 355: Not Afraid Anymore?
That evening, Cheng Lie had the best sleep he’d had in ages.
Yun Shifei didn’t wake him up, letting him hold her just like that.
Feeling his breath and his warm embrace, she couldn’t help but think about the road ahead for the two of them.
Cheng Lie probably already knew that their breakup was because of Mu Chengzhu. Though he had been suppressing Mu Chengzhu, Mu Chengzhu might not be able to retaliate in the short term, but over time, this issue would surely escalate.
If Mu Chengzhu found out someday that Cheng Lie was behind it, would he take revenge?
The thought alone made Yun Shifei uneasy.
By nature, she was indecisive, and now she felt even more anxious.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have broken up with Cheng Lie so abruptly back then.
But now, she realized that facing difficulties together didn’t seem so bad after all.
If she wasn’t with Cheng Lie, would Mu Chengzhu stop using despicable tactics? No, in fact, he might even resort to worse tricks.
Unable to resist, Yun Shifei reached out to smooth Cheng Lie’s hair. Though he seemed so strong, deep down, he had his fragile side, and she felt it was her responsibility to protect him.
When Cheng Lie woke up, he realized he had fallen asleep without meaning to. Seeing him awake, Yun Shifei asked, "Did you sleep well?"
Sleeping on the sofa was nowhere near as comfortable as sleeping in bed.
Cheng Lie murmured softly, then let go of Yun Shifei.
Yun Shifei stood up, poured him a glass of water, and handed it to him to refresh himself.
The room’s décor still looked the way it did the first time she visited, but the refrigerator was different.
Just moments ago, she had intentionally peeked into the fridge and found it practically empty, which clearly showed that Cheng Lie had not been eating properly during this time.
After drinking the water, Cheng Lie sensed a shift in the atmosphere. Looking up, he found Yun Shifei glaring at him with dissatisfaction.
"You haven’t been eating properly. Even if you don’t like eating, you should at least care about your health."
Angry about something like this, Cheng Lie couldn’t help but chuckle. "Alright, I understand."
Yun Shifei noticed that since Cheng Lie had calmed down, he had become more agreeable, just like he used to be—patient and gentle.
It made it nearly impossible for her to scold him.
"Let’s go to the market later to buy some groceries and fill your refrigerator," said Yun Shifei.
Cheng Lie obediently agreed again.
With the noticeable marks on her neck, Yun Shifei found herself feeling particularly exasperated during this spring-to-summer season. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
A scarf? Wearing a scarf in this weather—if others didn’t give her strange looks, she’d suffocate herself first.
Deeply troubled, Yun Shifei ultimately decided to wear Cheng Lie’s white shirt over her outfit.
She buttoned it up from the top down, stuffing the hem into her jeans, creating a casual "boyfriend style" look.
Cheng Lie’s shirt was so oversized that on her, it looked like a child borrowing an adult’s clothing.
Cheng Lie chuckled and teased, "When will I get to see you wearing my shirt as pajamas?"
Yun Shifei blushed furiously at his words, retorting, "Cheng Lie, when did you start teasing me like this?"
She felt deeply betrayed; Cheng Lie hadn’t acted like this in the past!
Now he was cracking these kinds of jokes—what was going on?
Cheng Lie quickly toned down. "You look great in this, though."
Yun Shifei snorted skeptically, clearly not believing him.
Even so, the feeling of being back together was truly wonderful. The two of them visited the market, bought fresh ingredients, and cooked a meal at Cheng Lie’s place.
It was a beautiful day.
That evening, Cheng Lie drove Yun Shifei back to her dormitory. Just as Yun Shifei was about to leave, Cheng Lie asked, "Feifei, you still haven’t told me the reason why you broke up with me back then."
Yun Shifei turned around at his words and faced him. "It was because Mu Chengzhu threatened me. He said that if I stayed with you, he’d go after you. I was scared."
Yun Shifei decided to be honest with him. Since she’d chosen to genuinely pursue their relationship, there was no need for further secrets.
Cheng Lie had laid his heart bare before her; if she kept evading the truth, it would only hurt him.
And she couldn’t bear to see Cheng Lie feeling hurt.
Because he loved her.
It wasn’t often someone loved her and cherished her like this. She had to treasure this relationship no matter what.
However, thoughts about her rebirth and the future—those surreal matters—were things she couldn’t reveal. Otherwise, Cheng Lie might think she’d gone mad.
Yun Shifei’s explanation matched Cheng Lie’s suspicions almost perfectly, though he still had questions. "He said that, and you just believed him?"
Yun Shifei shook her head. "It was just that you were under so much pressure at the time. I was terrified he’d actually do something."
Seeing her looking so timid, almost ready to shrink into herself, Cheng Lie reached out and tousled her hair. "So, are you not scared anymore?"
"I suddenly feel like you’re fully capable of handling these things," Yun Shifei said, looking at him, her gaze sparkling like stars in the night sky.
Cheng Lie’s lips curved into a faint smile. "Good to know. I’m not as weak as you think I am."
Yun Shifei agreed wholeheartedly.
She nodded vigorously.
Cheng Lie thought it was reassuring that Yun Shifei had finally recognized his strength.
"If anything like this happens again, don’t you dare leave me without a word."
"Alright, it’ll never happen again!" Yun Shifei swore earnestly.
Her obedient demeanor made Cheng Lie lean forward and kiss her softly on the lips. "Goodnight."
His voice was low, almost a murmur.
The next day, Zhao Pan visited Cheng Lie’s home to discuss the new product’s development direction. When he noticed an unusually cute throw pillow on the sofa, he froze in surprise.
It seemed so out of place here!
That warm, orange hue clashed with the entire aesthetic of Cheng Lie’s home.
Unable to resist, he picked it up. Though, admittedly, it felt pretty good to the touch.
At that moment, Cheng Lie walked out from his room, noticing Zhao Pan playing with the pillow. His gaze turned icy.
"Put it down," he said.
Zhao Pan promptly placed the pillow back on the sofa, though his curiosity compelled him to ask the question on his mind.
"Mr. Cheng, did you buy this pillow yourself?"
"Feifei gave it to me."
It took Zhao Pan a couple of seconds to realize who Cheng Lie meant by Feifei!
Yun Shifei??
Weren’t they broken up?
Remembering Cheng Lie’s mood during that period, Zhao Pan couldn’t help but dislike Yun Shifei a little. She’d made their Mr. Cheng feel so heartbroken and miserable.
Even though his investigation later tied the matter to Mu Chengzhu, it didn’t matter—if Yun Shifei had been more steadfast, how could she have been swayed by someone else’s words?
With that in mind, Zhao Pan finally said, "Mr. Cheng, forgive me for being blunt, but Miss Yun isn’t really suited for you. I think Miss Wen is much more compatible with you; the two of you are truly a perfect match."
