Chapter 174: Chapter 174: Making Friends

Daisy Woods had just said this when she opened Wendy Lawson’s social media feed.

Wendy’s post from last night had no picture, just a single sentence. No wonder Daisy hadn’t seen it when she was scrolling through her phone; it was just too inconspicuous.

[Wendy Lawson: I can’t believe I saw the Young Miss tonight!!! I even talked to her!!! She’s so cute! So sweet! So gorgeous!]

A post like that, even if Daisy had scrolled past it, would have most likely been ignored.

After all, in their circle, gushing over each other was common. It was nothing new, and no one really took it to heart.

"The Young Miss? Who is that? Weren’t you at that restaurant you booked for dinner last night?" Daisy Woods asked. "And I saw you posted on your platform about a couple who got engaged?"

Wendy Lawson nodded. "Yeah, I met her at that same restaurant. It was such a coincidence!"

Seeing that Wendy’s excitement seemed genuine, Daisy grew curious. "You still haven’t said who it is. Do I know her?"

Wendy couldn’t help but laugh out loud. She shook her head. "You probably don’t. She’s not in the same circle as us. She’s the real deal, a true young miss."

She didn’t beat around the bush and lowered her voice. "Do you remember last year when I came to the fashion show and took a picture of Cheryl Stuart?"

How could Daisy forget? That was the photo that led Cheryl Stuart’s fans to verbally abuse the non-celebrity in the picture, making malicious speculations and spreading rumors. Although it had nothing directly to do with Wendy Lawson, all her social media accounts were banned for a long time afterward. Daisy had even called her a few times to check on her.

She was a million-follower influencer, after all. No one had expected the consequences to be so severe just for posting a photo that included a non-celebrity.

"You were really unlucky that time," Daisy said with a sigh.

After all, Wendy hadn’t been the one to start the online harassment against the girl.

Wendy said, "To be honest, I wasn’t careful enough. I thought she was just a passerby, so including her would be fine. Looking back, most ordinary people just can’t be bothered to argue with us. If they really wanted to make an issue of it, we wouldn’t have much of a leg to stand on."

People only reflect on their past mistakes after they’ve suffered the consequences.

You don’t learn your lesson until it hurts.

"Actually, the person I met yesterday... was her," Wendy said.

Daisy’s eyes widened in an instant. After all, almost everyone in their circle had been following that incident last year, and she was certainly aware of what came after.

But overnight, every photo of the girl vanished from the internet without a trace. They never even found out who she was. It was only later, after the Morgan Group and the Sterling family were united by marriage, that small-scale discussions started popping up in their social circles.

"Is it the young miss from the Sterling family?" Daisy asked in a hushed voice. "Do you have a clearer picture this time? I thought that photo you accidentally took was gorgeous. I have zero resistance to beautiful women. If you have one, let me see!"

Wendy nodded, but when she heard Daisy ask for a photo, she shook her head with a wry smile.

"Once bitten, twice shy. You think I’d dare to keep her picture? Don’t worry, I deleted it completely yesterday."

Hearing this, Daisy nodded as if in sudden realization, then asked curiously, "When you met her, could she recognize you?"

"No, she didn’t. It was a coincidence, actually. You know how I was photographing that newly engaged couple yesterday? Well, when I was looking at the photos later, I realized I had captured Miss Sterling again." Wendy Lawson briefly explained how she had struck up a conversation with Jessie Sterling, how Jessie had even added her on WeChat, and how she had invited her to take some photos together at the fashion show today.

Jessie Sterling’s offer to take pictures might have just been polite courtesy, but Wendy Lawson had clearly taken it to heart.

After listening, Daisy’s gaze toward Wendy became much more complicated.

"You’re really lucky," she said.

She knew, of course, that befriending someone like Jessie Sterling would be a great boost to her future career.

Wendy chuckled. "It really was just luck."

But there aren’t many people who are both lucky and able to seize an opportunity.

Meanwhile, Jessie Sterling and Victor Morgan sat down. Victor spoke first, "If you see anything you like later, just buy it."

Jessie said, "I know, I know. You’re such a nag."

Wendy Lawson had just walked over when she saw Jessie Sterling and heard the Young Miss’s blunt complaint.

Wendy’s steps faltered. Then it hit her, and she couldn’t help but marvel internally. ’The Young Miss really is the Young Miss, acting so willful even in front of President Morgan.’

’But it’s also clear that this couple, rumored to be in a loveless business marriage, isn’t so "coldly respectful" after all. On the contrary,’ Wendy thought, ’only young couples who have a genuinely good relationship would speak to each other so casually.’

"Miss Sterling," Wendy greeted her in a low voice.

When Jessie Sterling heard her, she turned around, a wide smile spreading across her face.

"You’re here!" Jessie beamed and nodded. "Where are you sitting?"

Wendy Lawson pointed in a certain direction. For influencers like them who were invited, the seats at a fashion show were naturally not going to be the best.

Jessie Sterling followed her finger and glanced over. There were several Asian faces over there, but she didn’t recognize any of them, so she quickly looked away.

She picked up a gift bag from beside her feet and handed it to Wendy. "I left in a bit of a rush, so I didn’t prepare a proper gift. I saw this when I was out shopping yesterday. I hope you like it."

Wendy hadn’t expected this at all. She was beyond flattered.

"F-For me?" Wendy asked, still in disbelief.

Jessie Sterling nodded. "The photos from the night before last were beautiful. I liked them."

Since someone had given her a gift, it was only natural for her to return the favor.

The runway show was about to start, so it wasn’t convenient for Wendy to stay and talk with Jessie any longer. She thanked Jessie for the gift and then left.

After returning to her seat, Wendy made up her mind to take the most stunning set of photos of Jessie Sterling later.

Their current seats might not be the best, but in terms of camera angle, being a little higher and farther away was perfect for shooting.

When Wendy came back, Daisy saw she was carrying a gift bag with a large, hard-to-miss logo on it.

Daisy clicked her tongue. "Tsk," she sighed. "Your luck is really something else."

To befriend the very same Young Miss she’d had an unpleasant run-in with a year ago... that truly was some luck.

"It just goes to show how good-natured the Young Miss is."

On the other side of the venue, Victor Morgan looked at Jessie Sterling, a little puzzled. "You seem to have a good impression of her?"

Not just anyone could catch Jessie’s eye. Victor was truly surprised that Jessie would have any kind of interaction with Wendy Lawson.

Jessie Sterling just gave him a mysterious little smile.
